Hi Guys,
Does anyone know anything (other than what's there in their website) about the Carey Business School at the Johns Hopkins University. It's a relatively new business school and I want know stuffs about placements, industry perception, etc.
Any alum who can comment? or anyone who has researched about the school?
Thanks,
J
There wouldn't be any alumnus of the schools to comment yet simply because there are no alumni of the school yet. :-DThe first batch of the school is yet to graduate so until and unless the batch doesn't graduate, it's difficult to say anything about placement or industry perception. However, John Hopkins is a world renowned university in Medical sciences
Although the first class hasn't graduated yet, we have seen great placement statistics for our internships. Some of the companies we've worked for include Accenture, Acumen Fund, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Goldman, IBM, J&J;, Kiva, Microsoft, Siemens, UBS, the US State Department, and the United Nations.
From what I can gauge, industry response has been largely positive. We may be new, but our program is strong and the Johns Hopkins brand is respected.

@JRP4MBA Hi there. I'm an alum of the Carey Business School and an active one at that. I'd be happy to help shed light on your questions -- happy to take offline if you want to PM me.
Carey is only a new school in so much that we now have our first graduating class of all full-time students. In prior years the Hopkin's Business School was predominantly a part-time program. However thanks to the generosity of the Carey Family, as well as the encouragement of the Hopkins institution (and its great brand) we're now making progress toward becoming one of the top business schools in the world -- in particular, through an innovative curriculum approach.
Many of my colleagues (I'm a 2008 graduate) have gone on to secure great positions and/or move up the ladder at existing companies. Many others (like myself) have taken an entrepreneurial approach and found success starting our own businesses. Overall the Hopkins brand in business is quite strong and my diploma has severed me very, very well.

Hi Sam,
Many thanks for offering to help.
Do you have a Gmail ID for us to chat? Which time zone are you in? EST?
Hi.
I was very impressed with the innovative curriculum of their Global MBA program and applied for the Fall 2012 intake. Now invited for interview and looking forward to it.

Has anyone else got interview invitation/acceptance?
Hey can anyone throw a light on difference between flexible MBA and global mBA>?
Hi Carey business school is a very innovative business school. It has components of research and business dynamics. So if you want to work for corporates or international institutions like world bank, asia development bank or Int'l monetary fund, I think Carey business school provides a great platform for that. I was a carey alumni and am now helping students to select their right mba programme. So if you have that kind of inclination as I mentioned above, I think Carey is for you. Healthcare focus is also gaining much popularity and bucks 😉 in US. So I think Johns Hopkins is going to land you up in a lucrative career. Average salary is at par with top 10 mba schools and is around 100,000 USD. So see if you match the profile of the program and then apply. Johns hopkins can never go wrong.
Thanks zum!!
will mail you tonight for details !!
any idea on the interview calls for 2013 admits?
Carey looks to be a great school for the future. As for now, I'm unsure. They are in development phase and their Indian origin dean backed out. Surely a top 25 school for the future at worst but I'm unsure about the leverage current students will get.
Also, I read somewhere they have an 80% acceptance rate
Also the scholarships offered, if any.
It takes a long time for even a University like Johns Hopkins to get a business school off the ground. One thing that helped them along was the proximity to Washington DC and the relativly strong economy the region had due to Government and Government contracting jobs. Problem is now, that with the budget cuts the US has put into effect, such opportunities may be in decline but more will not be known until the next few months.
Also, the school ethos are very similar to that of Yale. But Yale has a high rank MBA program,JHU doesn't .Do you think it would be difficult for the school to attract employers?
With such a small class size and the sequester effect more-so in DC region..chances of getting a scholarship..would also be less.
But since the issue regarding the sequester is still on-going it is hard to tell what the impact will be on the school and recruiting. But on the plus side, Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, did just give quite a large donation to Johns Hopkins.
