Life at LBSIM , New Delhi

First week is about to get over in "MBA Education"....
Highlights:
1. North Indian leg of Nissan Student Brand Manager"... Prahlad Kakkar present as jury member..
2. Alumini Interaction on the 2nd day itself...
Till now life is hard(made by seniors) but life is gud.... 😉

Day 1 after orientation....
Getting an insight of seniors summers.... next year we will be under hammer by faculty...
Right now just sitting at the last and watching the grilling of the seniors..

I am a first year PGDM Fin student of LBSIM.I converted the calls of NMIMS-HR,IMT-HR & many more. But chose to study at LBSIM because of it's unique finance course.I felt exhilarated when I attended the induction program.I was startled at the welcome which the faculty gave to us.I was overwhelmed by the response of our seniors. We had an orientation program to build the rudimentary knowledge base requisite for our curriculum. Then started the busy schedule of our B-school life.I gave auditions and interviews for many clubs and cells.Fortunately got selected in a few.

Then came our cultural week.We had different themes throughout the week.We had loads of fun wearing traditional dresses, painting our faces etc.
We had a blast at the talent night. It was a superb experience.Few of our alumni also visited that day.We paid homage to them. Now we are up with the most important event of our institute i.e. The Outreach Program.Hope I can fair well in that.

Its more than a month when I stepped with a few dreams & few unanswered questions into LBSIM. The first day in the auditorium was a great experience as in the morning all were strangers but by the time the day's proceedings got over(Registration & welcome) there were more known people than strangers. The next day saw the faculty & Management Grid introducing themselves & welcoming us. It was 1st of its kind experience. Subsequently we were allotted our sections & roll nos.

Then came the induction program & the modules. Induction program is undertaken by faculty for 5 days to give us some idea about what all we will be studying in the next 2 years. Module was a kind of assignment given by Management Grid on subjects- HRM, OB, Marketing, Accounting, Operations & Finance. There was a huge chunk of study material followed by questions based on them. These had to be solved individually & submitted within 15 days. So for the next 15 days it was modules & modules everywhere. In between we had to attend the summer internship presentations of our seniors & submit our learning's from them. The various academic clubs introduced themselves but mostly in lunch break. So had to miss lunch on quite a few occasions. After the submission of solution of modules we had prize distribution function for the best performers. Then came the complete U-Turn as cultural clubs came into picture. All the environment was filled with fun.
Interviews started for getting into various clubs like Genesis(Marketing), Finesse(Finance), HRythm(HR), Eureka(Operations), Debsoc(Debating Society), Cerebrate(General Management), Abhivyakti(Dramatics), Vogue(Fashion), Mantra(Music), MNC(Media & comm) etc. After days of interviews members were selected. Sparsh works closely with NGO's.
Then came the week everyone was waiting eagerly- THE CULTURAL WEEK. 1st day was Ethnic Day where you had to wear the clothes from your state. 2nd was Face Paint day where one had to enter the institute with painted face. Next up was stand out day. There were various themes from which you had to dress. Champu Day was next. No need to tell one has to be the best champu. Last but not the least was the RJ day where among your batch there has to be romeo juliet couples. Chocolates & roses were sold by people of Sparsh.
Next up was the talent night & seriously Batch 2012-14 is immensely talented. They Can do anything. This Festive mood got over once Outreach started. It is a program wherein students visit major business hubs like Delhi-NCR, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai etc to meet the HR's of various organizations & invite them to various conferences & ultimately try to get live projects & placements in those companies. The students had to stay back in institute upto 8 p.m or more to prepare. The teams would be leaving in last week of july.
We also hosted "Nissan India Brand Manager" north leg competition. Prahlad Kakkar was the jury member. A student from our institute has been selected for the last round in Mumbai. In short this one month has been a perfect combination of study & fun to the fullest.. HATS OFF to the seniors for being so kind & helpful. Faculty support is tremendous. New ideas are highly appreciated as 2 new clubs have been formed which are purely the initiative of 1st year students. These clubs are Photography club & Movies Club.
My decision to join LBSIM is really reaping fruits. Great colleagues. Great Fun. Equally brilliant study atmosphere.

"There is no difference between a successful and an unsuccessful person. Both of them don't want to do few certain things after a threshold. In the end, the only difference between the 2 is, unsuccessful people never push themselves to do that particular thing whereas successful people do it anyway".

With this message, Mr Varun Harnal, National Training Manager, HILTI delivered a talk on 'Change Management' at LBSIM, Dwarka. A big follower of Lt. Stephen Covey, he talked about how most of us are only worried about Circle of Concern. Despite of increasing the Circle of Concern which are out of control, we must ensure to increase our Circle of Control, things under our control. And to do that, he mentioned 6 Ls in life which we must follow. They are
1) Live- Early to bed early to rise, exercise, take proper food
2) Love-Love above all
3) Laugh- Spread Laughter. It doesn't cost a penny!!
4) Learn- Life is short. Learn a new thing everyday as much as possible
5) Lead a Legacy- Find purpose in your life and live for it. Short term failures doesn't matter then!!
6) Leave a Legacy- After we die, people must remember us for our good deeds.

It was a very informative, interactive and a lively 90 min session and needless to say, audience liked it. I hope to be a witness to many such Corporate Interfaces in future as well

LBSIM now an institutional partner with National HRD Network & hosting Delhi & NCR chapter's JULY 2012 Special Event " The Power Of Fellowship" on July 23, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Expected guests include HR's from some well known companies.

Talent night....

what an event it was!!!!!!!!!

After all the five days of cultural week(viz Ethnic day, Face painting day, Stand-out day , Champu day and Romeo-Juliet day)next was the Talent Night. Superb talent manifested by my batch mates. 2012-14 rocked the stage, whether it was Drama, Dance, Singing, Fashion show.
i will cherish each and every moment of the cultural week.

my FIRST DAY at LBSIM:

9:30 in the morning : there were all unknown faces and new people. all eager to know one another. some met on FBs group of 2012-14. when i told my name they said "ohh.. Mr. COOPER.. " (my FB DP was of Shelon Cooper) i was very quiet just surrounded by FB friends husien and Jatin.. dont know what was going around. Came in Dr. G.L. sharma, person about whom i had heard quiet a lot of time before, an old gentle man with a praise-worth health at his age.
then everyone on the stage gave there introduction starting with praveen gupta sir. and for a matter of fact i started feeling "teri toh VAAT lag gai maamu..!" Fresher and that to from engineering and that to a mechanical where we were 66 boys (with no girls you really become free to do what ever you want) this was really formal and professional for me. i really thought whether i will be able to match this or not.(though its over a month now i am still not able to get that).
with 260 students its not possible for introduction of all the guys & girls in batch. so Sharma sir started calling out of the names randomly. ya sorry to bring this to your notice but there was 1 guy who was running with mic in the whole audi. i really felt for him. after 2 days we came to know that he was the president of mgmt grid and he never felt for us in the next 15 days..! coming back to introduction there were 70 odd people whose names were called. i wasnt thr in them. now sharma sir said 5 more people who are willing to introduce themselves can say. i raised my hand 5 times but nt selected again..! luck wud have it sir said 1 more (ab tak mai sabar ka bandh tut chuka tha..!) i screamed "yaar ab toh mujhe chance do.." so i got the chance..!! i had a great feeling. As in IPL they wud say "its CITI moment of success". finally speaking to people who 4 next 79 years will be my friends (ya i suppose that i am not gng to die b4 100). after listening to very formal and OLD fashioned intro of 70 odd people who were talking same thing again and again..I wanted to bring humor, fun and at the same time make a mark..! so I thought to go with HINDI..! afterall its our mother tongue (yes if i am right, just in case you came to know about it right now)
my intro, " sir all here gave there intro in english so i wud like to give mine in Hindi.. namaste.. mera naam Manan Shah hai. mai ek mechanical engg hu..". evry 1 started to scream "mechanical engg is english". i continued " agar aap me se kisiko iska hindi ata hai toh kehdo mujhe nahi ata. sir mai ahemdabad se hu. sir ek gujarati hu toh pehle se hi dhandha karna chahta tha. par papa ne invest karne se mana kar diya" every one started to clap and laugh. mission achieved..!!! i continued," papa kehte hai business karna ata hai?? mene kaha nahi. toh bole ki sikh ke aao toh sir mai yaha dhandha sikhne aya hu." so every one started clapping and laughing. so from the first day everyone knows me as gujarati boy or dhandha boy..!! later on i also got the name of "photographer" because i carry my cam everywhere and i can be seen clicking pics many times and really collect memories at the time of events..!
so thats it folks..
National Human Resource Development Network Delhi Chapter Meet took place at LBSIM, Delhi on 23rd July.

Theme: "The Power of Follower-ship".

Keynote Speaker: Mr. Bob Jones, Director - Head of Leadership, Inspirational Development Group

It was an Enriching Learning Experience for the Participants

DEBSOC, the debating society, organized its first event for this academic year on

"FACE MEDIA - The Mock Press" today. This one was special as this is the first event being organized by the LBSIM 2012-14 batch, under the guidance of the Debsoc Senior members.

In this event, there were 12 participants who had put themselves in the shoes of a famous character and answer the questions asked by the media i.e. Judges and students. It was very interesting and full of fun…….

Mr. Bhuvan Pandey along with his colleague from CRISIL Research, Mumbai visited the campus on 26/07/12 & enlightened us with all the information regarding the functioning & usage of CRISIL. This is an organization which does the in-depth analysis of the various factors which would effect our economy & on near real time basis update the latest in the market. Most of the industrialists in India depend on the information provided by CRISIL.

This website is of great help for the students also as before entering the corporate world one gets to know everything about that company. Every minute information is provided in orderly manner so that it is easily accessible. The data provided is authentic as one of the analyst is deputy governor of RBI.
LBSIM has subscribed to CRISIL & hence the students can get the information about any company of any sector. This initiative is helpful for the teachers also as it would allow them to involve the latest in the industry to their pedagogy.

The Outreach Week has begun... Seniors & Juniors together reaching out to Corporates

We are visiting major business hubs like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune etc.

Would be updating my experience soon.

I am a part of the Gurgaon Outreach Team :)

All the outreach core teams have left for there destinations. The strategy teams are in constant contact with the core teams to make outreach a huge success. The students like me who unfortunately couldn't make it to any team are being helped by the institute to improve out skills. We are being helped to enhance our presentation skills. 2nd year students are being helped with their group discussion & interview skills which would be helpful during their placements.

Moreover the students are being sent to KNOW THE REAL BHARAT project in which students are sent to nearby villages so that they can understand the problems over there & try to solve them. The 1st team is scheduled to leave this week itself. A conference is being held on the topic SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT on August 17, 2012 the details of which would be provided soon.
In the end LBSIM takes pride in congratulating GAGAN NARANG for winning a bronze medal at LONDON OLYMPICS 2012.

Most of the Outreach teams are coming back after successful completion of their tasks. Hats Off to Pune team which despite the blasts completed the task at hand.

We are also proud of VIJAY KUMAR who brought laurels to INDIA by winning a silver medal at LONDON OLYMPICS 2012.

Finally the Work-cum-Fun Outreach week comes to an end...

I have Been a part of the Gurgaon Outreach team in last year as well as this year.. We have covered some good companies in the the outreach and hoping for a good response in coming days...

The best part of the week has been the ice breaker between the seniors and juniors within all the teams.. everyone has worked together enjoyed together and contributed to the outreach program..

Although the task is still not over.. we have some companies for next week as well.. but its been a wonderful time with the team..

Now before the normal schedule begins for the Institute its time to take some rest on the weekend and get ready for the action ahead

Stay tuned for further updates

Happy Independence Day to every Indian. Committed to follow the path shown by the great freedom fighters. Always remember their sacrifice & contribute the maximum for the development of this greatest nation in the world-INDIA.

PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN..... JAI HIND..

So, here it begins, my first post at PagalGuy.

For reference, I've been a regular visitor of this site but never felt the need to chip in as an active registered user because their already were innumerous bright minds already at work here. And now, I take an opportunity to just *briefly* go about how Life is at LBSIM and the limits onto which you'll be/we are pushed to

First Day @ LBSIM and I was completely lost, mind you, here I aint referring to the size of the campus we have but, lost at the intellectual capital which the institute possesses.
Greater amusement came about when seniors, taking out time from their respective internships, were ready to terrorize us with the schedule we were about to follow [They're helpful anyway ] One more thing we're made to understand was, our's is a professional institute not a college, so all those who are attending this institute in the name of reviving their graduation days back SHOULD bid farewell to those procrastinated habits.

Second Day, the grilling started with Dishank [Compulsary for every 1st year student] , we were handed over the Modules by The Management Grid [The supposedly Big Brother of the Institute], with a time frame of 10 days to complete them. There were 5 modules namely, one of HR, Marketing, Operations, Finance and Accounting. It was great to be a part of Dishank, because personally speaking, it was an advantage else I wouldnt have been able to acclimatize so very fast into the tough life @ LBSIM. Moreover, Seniors took out time from their respective internships to make those modules for us and then check them all...each one of the 240..phew!!...Hats off to our seniors.

After the end of the Dishank, finally, a hope of respite came for us in the form of Cultural Week, a week wherein everyday is assigned to some or the other thing. I felt like "okay, I would definitely have fun here", which was in complete contrast to what was happening to us to complete Dishank. However, Cultural Week was a fresh air and everybody alongwith the Seniors enjoyed a lot. Its like striking a balance between Studies and Fun [Pun intended ]. LBSIM takes care of both the aspects going on in the institute.

Now, just to give you an idea about what Cultural Week was
1st Day - Ehtnic Wear Day [You've to come to the institute wearing your native state's folk dress]
2nd Day - Face Paint Day [Its self-Explanatory]
3rd day - Standout Day [Come whatever you feel like to - I was a Dracula that day ]
4th Day - Champu Day [You have to come to the institute as a CHAMPU]
5th Day - Romeo-Juliet day [Find and impress one girl to be your Juliet for that day - personally, my best day out in the whole of cultural week ;)]
6th Day - Talent Night [First Year students of Cultural clubs have to show in their talent]

At LBSIM, we've very active Clubs and Cells. In total their are 4 Cells and many Clubs. The 4 Cells include, LBSIM Media and Communication Cell [https://www.facebook.com/lbsim.mnc - you can add this profile as your friend for knowing our institute better] , Alumni Cell, Placement Cell and E-Cell. Clubs are broadly divided into 2 groups, namely, Academic and Cultural. Academic Clubs include, HRythm, Genesis [Marketing Club], Eureka[ Operations Club], Finesse [Finance Club], Entrepreneurship Cell, The Presentation Club [The members of which witness the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award organized at Rashtrapati Bhawan each year], The Sponsorship Club [ Self-Explanatory].

Cultural Clubs include Abhivyakti[Dramatics], Razmatazz[Dance], Mantra[Music].

LBSIM supports initiatives by the students and all these clubs and cells are run by students ONLY. LBSIM also encourages new ideas and hence this year, Photography Club and Life Cinematique [Movies Club] were given a green flag . I personally was involved with the inception of The Movies Club.

Now, coming to some academic processes, likewise every institute, Teachers here run after our lives and rightly so, because now there are teachers and tomorrow there'll be corporates running after our lives . LBSIM follows a case centric approach and in almost every class we get a case study either to study or to present a ppt on. By the word of our seniors, we would complete about 400 cases by the end of our 22 month curriculum.

Every Thursday is reserved for CI Day [Corporate Interface Day Activities], wherein prominent industrialists come to our institute to brief us about the current trends and various other issues prevelant in the industry.

The Annual Outreach Programme [which I also was a part of - Part of Core/Field Team of Ahmedabad Outreach], is a relationship building process with the corporates and as with the rest of the activiies this is also a complete student centric approach and its been completely run by the students itself. Herein, we visit the major corporate hubs round the country to build solid relationships with the corporates.

Overall, the culture out here is just fabulous, studies stop at 5 PM but the campus is alive till late. The pool of students is very big and vast. We have people coming from Fashion, BDS MBBS et al backgrounds and sharing with such a peer group makes me feel like everyday I am taking something back to home [I am a day-Scholar]. Thats what I loved about the institute, the Value-Addition process is a constant here. Although its 6 days a week but still the culture is such that I want to be their even on a Sunday.

The freshers is scheduled to be held on 25th August and Alumni Dinner on 6th October. Will keep you all updated out here.

Any furthur queries regarding anything to LBSIM, please PM/mail me at [email protected] [Please hold your patience if I get late in reverting]

As they say, you should always listen it straight from the horse's mouth rather than going around with the air of myths

Thank You for showing such great patience to read this Reading Comprehension out. Best Luck, Take Care and God Bless.
