Life at LBSIM , New Delhi

I woke up on a Monday morning & had the typical Monday morning blues. I was brushing my teeth & picked up the newspaper from the door. With a cup full of coffee, I took a sip and was struck to see the Times of India today, there was a detailed 4 page review of our institute and it filled me with immense pride.
It was an initiative by the Times of India Group to showcase the top MBA Institutes of the country which are delivering quality and value based education - Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management.

had a 2 day sabbatical from the academic rigor by participating at MDI Gurgaon's annual sports-cultural fest Akshayam 2012... it was an awesome experience and hats off to the MDI crowd for a very well conducted event.. felt proud to be part of LBSIM's football team as we battled past the freezing cold and fatigue due to cramped fixtures to claim silver in the soccer event... kudos to LBSIM's cricket team too for bagging silver in their event...

LBSIM celebrated the birth centenary of Smt Lalita Shastri, wife of the second prime minister of India, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastriji yday. The institute hosted a panel discussion on the topic "Whats Gender Got To Do With It?" with reference to women empowerment and was attended by Ms Vinita Bali, MD - Britannia Industries Ltd, Mr Siraj Choudhary - Chairman Cargill India, Dr Mohammed Musa - CEO and Country Head CARE India, Wing Cdr Anupama Monga from the Indian Air Force and LBSIM's own alumnus Ms Nimisha Jain from Kellogg India Pvt Ltd. Ms Vinita Bali later released the book titled €˜Women and Empowerment: Issues and Challenges €™ authored by faculty members of LBSIM as part of the occasion.

The inaugural Smt Lalita Shastri memorial inter b-school debate competition hosted by LBSIM and sponsored by the Society for Public Interventions concluded yesterday at the institute. The topic was "Political Alliance is the new success mantra for Indian Businesses" teams from FORE school of management, IMT-Ghaziabad, XIME-Bangalore and LBSIM participated in the event which was judged by board members of the Society for Public interventions Dr JV Rao, Mr JBS Negi (Retd IPS officer) and Mr Abhay Bhave, Management consultant and former civil servant. In a closely fought contest, LBSIM emerged victorious followed by FORE school of management. Congrats to Anirban Chakraborty (also adjudged as the best speaker) and Poornima Dey for bringing the rolling trophy to LBSIM.

as temperatures dip in delhi, all one feels like doing is snuggling in bed under a comfortable quilt, with a cup of hot chocolate and ur favourite movie playing on ur laptop.. however if ur a student at LBSIM now, the cup of hot chocolate will be replaced by strong black coffee and the laptop will be replaced by a heavy textbook... #examsapproaching!!!!

The National Marketing Conference on Innovative Trends in Marketing in the New Millennium was a grand success. Speaking on the immense potential of innovative marketing, Chief Guest Mr Sanjiva S. Dubey (Executive, Asia Pacific Region - IBM) iterated the importance of treating each customer as an individual and the growing significance of social networking and word-of-mouth marketing. Dr. Mithileshwar Jha of IIM-B, while delivering the keynote address talked about the need for delivering value through value creation and value sensing. He stressed on the need for innovation through creativity, commerce and sustainability quoting the examples of Arvind Eyecare Hospitals and Narayana Hrudayalaya. Technical sessions were handled by Dr. S. LBSIM today hosted two officials from ICICI Direct Centre for Financial Learning (ICFL) as part of the introductory seminar on ICICI's "StockMIND", a nation-wide contest for college students enabling them to showcase their stock investment skills. LBSIM students will be participating in this event along with the IIMs, FMS, MDI, IIFT, IMT-G and other premier institutes.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management today hosted the 20th Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lecture at The National Museum Auditorium in Janpath, New Delhi. Mr. Mushahid Hussain Sayed (Senator, Pakistan Senate) delivered the lecture on "South Asia's Quest For A Future". Also in attendance was the High Commisioner of Pakistan His Excellency Salman Bashir, Sri. Anil Shastri (Chairman, Board of Governors - LBSIM), Mr. Kuldip Nayar (veteran diplomat, journalist and ex-member of the Rajya Sabha), Padma Vibhushan Dr. M.S. Gill (retd IAS Officer, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and ex-Chief Election Commissioner of India) and many other prominent dignitaries.

LBSIM hosted special interactive session with Dr R L Raina, Dean & Professor , IIM Lucknow (also former director of LBSIM) on the topic" Excellence through life skills". In his speech, he told the students about importance of "Learning outside the classroom" which mould our personality as competent professional manager. He shared that Classroom learning is important but "beyond classroom learning" is an important source of Value addition in Management students. It was enriching interaction with him.
