Life at MDI

... somehow I feel this 1 month of "judaai" from the campus has further strengthened the bond we all share with MDI and with fellow ManDevIans!!

Make that 2... we have a two-month internship... :tellme:
BTW Ram is absolutely right we he says everyone has missed MDI... I am already having bouts of nostagia..... we too will be gone shortly...
as Aamir Khan said in RDB "campus ke aandar humari koi aukaat hai, bahar ki duniya mein sab pis jaate hain"... having worked for about 3 years, I know that MDI is like an oasis... you can only stop here for a while.... but no matter...you can take a man out of MDI, but not MDI out of a man....

n BTW ecclesia ws awsm man.. a gr8 way to mak us comfrtbl wid d place n u guys..

There are a lot of myths associated with MBA... and one of them is that the 2nd year is a time to chill out... well, that isn't the case in MDI atleast... most of us have 7 credits this sem and have classes running till 7:30 PM... ofcourse the pre-reads and analysis have just become tougher and more exhaustive... I feel this is perhaps the most grilling sem of the entire course...
But on the brighter side, it's great to be back to the campus... and the 2nd year is made only of electives... so hopefully this will lead to more interesting discussions and projects.... my favourite course so far is Strategic Cost Management... it is being taught by our former Dean... another captivating course is Microeconomics of Competitiveness... MDI is among the only two schools where this course is floated...HBS being the other one....
A lot of activities and initiatives are being planned to take MDI higher... if things go as planned there will be a lot we could feel proud of.... already some PPOs have been made, guys are now evaluating their next steps... :sneaky:
Meanwhile the campus is all geared up to welcome the new batch to the place we all love.... MDI:bigups:

...and what a welcome it has been! Not too many people have got tot hte campus yet, but we've already got groups forming, inter section rivalries and also, we've had our first laptop movie session! ( although, everyone fell asleep during the movie - which, incidentally, was picked by me :dontgeti: )

The days ahead seem full of promise, and the nervous energy in the air is there for all to feel. Haven't really got to interact with all the seniors as of yet, but I am sure that time will come. But well, after the first day at MDI, all I can say is, MDI is a true blue Dream Institute! :)

Today (the 15th) has us going for registration in the afternoon. I guess hese will be the only two days of true R&R; we will manage over the next few months - unless we choose to ignore our academic priorities πŸ˜‰

The new batch has started hitting the campus. Haven't got to see much of them. Actually unlike previous years, this year the hostel arrangement is a bit different due to the large batch and new hostel. So there won't be many pg08 students staying around us. Nevertheless we will always be there for them

The weather in Gurgaon has been brilliant for a few days now. Its been raining all morning
Not that great for the new batch though since it makes settling in and moving stuff around difficult. But the enthusiasm and excitement that they will have, this rain cannot bog them down.

I have to go and help out with registering the new students now. Will get a look at most of them for the first time.

We also have a competitive football match at 5 pm (its fantastic to play in this weather). I hope some of the new students get a chance to play today but the registration might just take a bit of time.

The breeze has started blowing & the weather is all pleasent here. Welcome to MDI!. During the whole last 4-5 months, i had certain plans(of what to do & what not). Some of those plans, have come into action & some have just simply been formatted from my brain after coming here.
There are various aspects which i have observed in the last couple of days.

Discipline: The most important thing here is this D-letter word. You are groomed from day 0 itself to be a discplined man(manager)!. There are certain aspects related to disciplinary measures which do keep a check on student activities & the seniors keep a hawk's eye on us.(Kiddin). They r very friendly but they do make us understand the idea behind discipline.

Apart from this, the food is awesome here. Special round of thanks to the mess incharge & mess people.

I was a bit appeherent to the idea behind the new hostel at IDPL complex but believe me its great. During nights, though its a bit spooky but in the morning its a paradise for nature lovers. U can hear the peacocoks & other birds around & breathe in fresh oxygen. .

Talking about the rigour here, man fasten ur seat belts coz it ain't a joyride but hey why fear when such cool people are here. The profs. make the concepts so easy through Simulations & Game Plays. I gotta understand the Game Theory today!!!(Phew! i never understood a word during the last whole year thru theory but today it took me 5 hours to get thru it.)

I hope that all my friends have a great stay at the campus & i thank all professors & seniors for such a welcome & hope we continue the ongoing traditions of MDI.

Pround to b a ManDevIan.

@rockball-- I guess it won't b possible for us to play in this week but we sure hope to give u good competition form next week. Kiddin man. But let us have some on field space.

The PGPM course formally got inaugurated yesterday, presided over by Mr Arun Maira, Chairman, BCG India. Other corporate dignitaries who shared their insights were Mr Aquil Busrai, ED (HR), IBM India and Mr Aadesh Goyal, Centre Head, Gurgaon & VP-HR, Aricent.

Well, what a rolicking rollercoaster of a week it has been.. and I am assured by the grapevine that the week hasn't ended as yet

We've got our first MDI blast tonight.. good part is that we already got a taste of how celebrations are done here at MDI during our first week itself - b'day of a batchmate.. the scale would however be much much grander tonight, understandably..

The academic course officially commences Monday.. lets see how student life turns out to be after such a long gap :-P

so I get the chance to describe the coolest night of many of our lives...

we had 'The Party' yesterday, muzic, dance, smoke, thrill... whew...
danced like crazy for 3-4 hours and totally forgot all the rigour we have gone thru all these days...
and watch out for the pics clicked on d night most of us look like we have arrived at the place we always wanted to ...
and indeed this is in the true sense of the world a dream destination, just to feel that you are here at this moment makes you feel so proud and confident, just walking thru the buildings and grounds, I always look up and say 'wow I have made it somewhere'...

Thats the spirit prevailing MDI these days... :)

as for the coming week the induction is over now so the classes will begin and we have a subject taken by the director of the institute and a 3 french session scheduled in a week so totally looking forward to the classes...

MDI Rocks (even more)..!!

The life at MDI has begun for PGPM 2008-10 batch. The last one week was some induction.

The party on Sat was great and lasted till 6:30 AM. Heard we have many more parties lined up.

At MDI I believe next two years will be a roller coster ride with lots of fun, study, extra curricular activities, etc ... The only thing which can be scarce is sleep.

Profs are great. The mess is good. The all night Arcus has some great Chicken Maggi.

Fun has just begun.

...and after all the thrills of the induction, we now have the academic rigour to deal with - The existence of which, was made very clear to me in the first minute of the academic session, with me waiting one and a half hour outside the class for being late by a minute :(

Discipline is a byword at MDI, and along with all the fun,the games, the clubs, the camaraderie and the friendliness can make one get a little complacent, but the professors here bring one back to reality - HARD! They are the best in the business, that you can say for certain once you listen to them. No one who ever attends a class at MDI will be satisfied with any classes anywhere else, ever!!

Also, missed my first quiz in that class - but another good thing about the academics here is there are always ways to make up for small hiccups. Of course, one has to get used to long hours...actually, one will get used to long hours - one simply does not want to sleep with the massive number of activities on here! we just had an interaction with the Finance Club where we contemplated the effects of recent news on the Indian and global economies....The amount of planning that has gone into making us feel at home here in MDI is simply astounding. ( I know,I use a lot of adjectives - but these deserve their place! )

Coming to the food....the mess is awesome, it'll serve up better fare than a lot of good restaurants and cafeterias..(although,since my perspective is that of a single bachelor who burns ACT2 popcorn,I might be biased πŸ˜‰ ) ...and the night canteen and Sharmaji's make sure everyone here is well fed ( side effect - you might sleep in classes - practice yoga, it helps us keep awake πŸ˜‰ )

Thats about it for now - assuming I don't indulge in any more fiascos tomorrow me's signing off for now!....

feels nice to see PG08 contributing to this thread.... I haven't yet met all the puys at MDI... will get to know them in a while....
Life at MDI from PG07 point of view is getting hectic by the day.. have mid term exam scheduled for a subject this Saturday.... and even after the loads of cases done in the first year, it if difficult to pre-read all of them before classes... I was asked to excuse myself from a class yesterday for not being prepared... And as a future MBA, I utilised this time playing football..... We had a PG07 Vs PG08 match yesterday.... first in a series of games that are to follow...
Yes, mufi it has become quite hectic now. While in the first year, we always thought life in the second year is a lot more chilled out. However, it looks to be a totally different case. The profs now expect us to do a lot more. Aah..the grass is always greener on the other side

Speaking of grass, the evening lectures are forcing me to miss football games at least twice a week:argue:

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........

10 days @ MDI......and it feels i ve already lived a life here.....

feels so good to b back on pg after 3 weeks n writing....
the jorney has been exhilarating...too good to believe tat this is really happening to me.....
yoga sessions......classes ......late night activities.....we slept for an average of 2 hrs in the first week.....th entire campus seemed.............o yessss......the campus is huge n awesome.......it really amazes as to how such acres of grenery is maintained everyday.....
the campus seems to ve some difffrent energy...work happens 24 hrs.....lots of clubs n societies to work for....
profs r icons n pioneers here.....seniors very helful.......amazing batch....awesome place....i just cant stop writing.....

hope i get my laptop soon.......would keep updating !!!

MDI ........dream come true !!

Weekends was fun. I went to catch up with my friends in Delhi. Most of the guys went home or to meet friends during the weekend. Don't think would be possible to go out every weekend.

Classes have started in full flow. Each class is of 1.5 hrs. A bit too long. By the end of class everyone is like .

CR elections are over. We now have a CR to take care of us.

Life has turned busy now. Faculty expects us to come prepared for classes. Its been 3 years since I studied. So kind of gets difficult for me. I have started thinking that I have to study. One day I will start doing what I think. Seems I am not among the best of students .

It feels nice to post on the thread my first post.
First of all thanks to the student council for making the Induction week memorable for us. It involved entire range of activities from rappling to group activities.
Coming to the academic rigor most of the people are talking about I think the things are pretty chilled out you just have to study for 2-3 hrs for the next day. The quizzes are also pretty much of an enjoyment because of the relative grading system. The teachers out here are really good in terms of experience and their teaching methodologies.

We had a fresher party last Saturday and our thanks giving party is due on this weekend so hoping to have another blast on the weekend.

Hi all,
Iam student doing MBA in chennai, Iam now in a research on MDI, gurgoan. Can some body help me out in my research?
I will mail some questions to the persons who are contacting me in the following mail
The details what I need will be well known to you guys. So kindly help me in this.

Please contact me in the mail and do the needfull. I just need some of the details of your college, thats it.

With regards,
S.Balamurugan.

Things are on a roll here.... Elections for the placement committe, and the various other clubs viz Marquity(marketing), Monetrix(finance),ITerations(IT) etc are about to begin. Also look out for a bigger and better Illumina(a marketing survey) this year.... the junta out here is more excited about these events than the studies πŸ˜‰ Some are trying to get in terms with the pre-reads before going to the class...for engineers like me, it's definitely a novel experience...we are not used to reading post a class and here they expect us to be prepared before coming to the class!!!
Jokes apart, there are a lot of avenues that are available for growth...it finally boils down to one's interest.... Unnati (a mutual fund) run in-house by the students is in great demand..almost everyone in campus wants to be a part of.....
Another factor is the now increased batch size of 185....This has caused a few butterflies in some stomachs here.... Summers will be here soon, and people are eyeing a project in a area of their interest.... Lets see what the future holds.... getting into MDI was the easy part...competing with guys out here and emerging a winner is gonna be the real test..... anyway, I've got to go, can't keep ignoring the accounts book for ever :-)

If getting to MDI was the easiest part pleeeeeeeeeeejjjjjjjjjj give tiips.wanna get in MDI rilly bad especially after visited it wen DAD was doing his EXEC frm MDI.

Its been 3 great weeks at MDI & as they say I M Lovin It (No Copyright infringements)

Well, its fun, its hectic, its superb too sum it up its AMAZING!!!

To talk about the ambience of the classes(sarcasm intended) especially the Accounts lecture which is primarily meant for the Commerce Graduates. . Then, is our Statistics which is Very Easy according to the profs.!! Legal issues is a wholesome fun subject & then we have Human Behaviour & Oral Comm. which are nice ingredients. We finish off with Marketing & Economics which round off our 7 subjects.

Apart from this those SURPRIZE quizzes has rounded me off!! . We have had a Stats, Legal & Accounts quiz. Hope to get good grades in the first two but accounts mein to Balance sheet is out of balance. Asked seniors about the whole accounts issue & they said u can only hv a loss account baaki profit account k liye to study hard!!!;). Apart from this Oral Comm k extempore mein yours truly got a surprising 4.5 on 5 .

Apni class ko represent karne k liye we have finally chosen a CR. Bhaiya party to do!!!:2gunfire:.

Football to khel hi nahi paaye jab se entry li hai, but now from this week will definitely play in the rains.

Have a couple of assignments lined up for this week & some case studies!!

But everything else is gr8!!. IDPL is out of this world(I mean it). It has got extensive fauna & flora(learned this in Geography i beleive). The IDPL Cup is going strong with Bungalow 3 winning sme cliffhangers (my team). Floodlights hv been set up. And boundary k bahar pavillion is setup in order to search for ball in case it is lobbed high & far.!!

Looking forward to next week & till then its odios from me!!

well...

here go the last two weeks...

making PPTs, presentations, two major nightout parties, making some reports, coping up with french, having some serius fun during the 3 hour behemoth classes, and well rest doesnt seem worth mentioning now...

one good thing about the week,... reinforced the belief that any assignment, apparently however tuf can be made in one night if done on the night b4 the assignment...

we have had some presentations so far,.. and IM batch has truly been woooohooooo.... serious sarcasm during the questions round after presentation, and during the presentation some serious attitute and humour by the presenters... the label I got was too casual...
spoke with hands in pockets and used lota slangs ...
though improved a lot by the second one...

so assignments dont bother me now ...
besides that the PGIM batch is having a chill time ... just 4 subjects... so kinda laying off...
party twice every week coz ders nothing else to do for one and dat its anticipated dat next month on we wud be the most workloaded ppl so trying to live our lives b4 dat...

another one ... got highest marks in a quiz 8 on 10...

and ironically lowest in another... 0 on 10...
both by the same prof...
(the quiz has +1 -1 marking system... 😞 )

ciya in d next post now...
