For someone who's never stayed away from home it was quite intimidating to move to a new place to study MBA. I was given a week to quit my job, pack my bags and relocate to Trichy! I joined late and was skeptical of being accepted by people who I knew would already have made friends by then.
The day I entered college, I was met with a bouncing ball of energy which made sure I attended the activities class that day and from then on it has been one hell of a ride! From attending classes again to playing sports(which I used to play once upon a time!), from the mind blowing Marwar experience to the soothing BHEL circle point, from making new frds to becoming a part of the BIM family- it has all been a part of an awesome journey!
BIM is a place where you re-discover yourself! Here's hoping that you do too
Times were long, hard and tough before joining BIM. I had just
finished my Electrical Engineering and found my first job as a Software Engineer.
I was looking for the right time to make a shift and it happened after 1.5
years when I joined Studio-A as a Senior Editor. It is there, at the age of 25,
my CAT preparation began and I decided to choose BIM Trichy to do an MBA. The
moment I came to BIM, I was greeted by tremendous enthusiasm and energy. The world-class
faculty and staff at this institution motivate students and bring out the best
in them. This school offers a plethora of opportunities for growth and
development. Combining a personal feel with the stringent curriculum, the
college allowed me to grow. BIM provides a space to think in our own shoes, while at the same time pushes us to work beyond our comfort zones. I was able to thrive
in the small classroom setting that offered one on one attention from the
professors and made me feel more comfortable to speak in front of others. The
night life at hostel is amazing. My summer internship in analytics and digital
marketing allowed me to grow professionally. I gained the experience and
confidence required, and was fortunate to land my dream job as a Marketing Manager
in State Bank of India through the final placements at college. I really
believe it is a privilege to graduate from this B School and I am fortunate to
have made the right decision.
Studying at BIM has been an excellent experience
for me.
After the best four years of my life in NITT hostel, I thought I
was never going to get those days back. Now at this moment in time, if given a
chance I will trace back time to correct my presumptions. BIM has given me a lot,
the best being the amazing huge ground right in front of the hostel rooms where
we play cricket, football and do lot of other activities. The night life is too
exciting to be sleeping. Late night table tennis, shuttle, cards, poker, mafia
are a crucial part for any person who loves fun. I believe that smart work
beats hard work any day. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". This is
apt for any student, be it in school, UG or PG, whether in IIT or NIT or IIM.
The location of BIM hostel is another thing which captivated me. Totally serene,
the fresh cool air in the mornings and completely pollution free from urban traffic,
the sounds of birds chirping. It's a delight to the eyes of nature lovers.
The teaching quality of some professors in BIM is way over the charts. I have not seen such knowledgeable and experienced professors even in NIT.The small student count of 120 per batch makes it easy to mingle
with everyone and approach individually. The hostel rooms are proper 2BHK flats
with a huge hall with a kitchen attached and separate restrooms for each flat unlike
many hostels in NITs, IITs and IIMs.
Last but not least is the
MESS. Well I have eaten almost everywhere from
home food to the worst hostel foods in NITs. I
must say that the mess food here is beyond GODLY. It is nutritious as well as tasty.
The
fact that they are serving only a small lot size of 240
students helps them better plan and cook in time .The menu is different for all
7 days and it changes once in every 3 months. Voting is
taken to determine which food should be in the menu
before
finalizing .Democracy rules!
The exclusive thing about
BIM is almost everything is run by students headed by Student Council. There
are committees for everything right from PRCOM which manages
the image
of the college in the outside world and takes
care of
admissions to MESSCOM which takes care of the mess
to KALAICOM which conducts cultural events to SPORTSCOM which
conducts regular tournaments.
It all started on June 13 of the year 2015, when my father
called me and told that I have been selected for MBA at BIM, Trichy. I was
overjoyed to the extent that I was ready to leave everything in Delhi which
even includes rejecting admission offer from a college which was just 5 minutes
away from my home and finally I selected a college that was a two day journey
from my home. My parents were a bit skeptical about me going so far, and of
course whose parent wouldn't be, but I convinced them and made them realize
that there is nothing to be afraid of. The college is good and nothing else
matters, in fact it would be a new experience. It was a risk which I was ready
to take.
On June 22nd, I reached BIM campus. I had already seen
pictures on social media but the feel of seeing it for the first time is
unexplainable and the fact that it would be my new home for the next two years
was always there in my head. I knew from the beginning itself that I would face
some problems here, like language and food, but I was all set to face them. On
the first day I met most of my batch mates and their parents. Everyone was
very friendly and they tried to make me comfortable. I met my roommates and realized
that they were the best I could possibly hope for, with whom I now share almost
everything about my life. Then came the ice breaking session which was immense
fun and we came to know each other in a more better way and hence our journey
as batch 32 of BIM started.
We had an induction program for 10 days which introduced us
all to our new subjects as well as teachers and gave an idea about what is in store
for us for the coming two years, honestly I couldn't have asked for a
better beginning. The studies started, yes they were a bit hectic but nothing
was at the cost of our fun. If we know how to allocate our time properly, we
would know that this was it. The teachers are very helpful. Our seniors became
our support system, guiding us throughout and helping us all the way. I got accustomed
to the culture of BIM, more quickly than I had thought; all because of the
people around me who never made me feel out of home.
Talking about the place, Trichy is very different from Delhi
(no surprises here 😛 ). The weather is warm but pleasant most of the times.
The wind is extremely soothing when it brushes your face. It is nice to take a
break from the busy roads and clogged air of Delhi and live in a city like
Trichy. The weather here is the same as the people- peaceful and serene.
It has been 7 months
since I got my new home at BIM and started my new life, and if someone asks me if I would change
my decision and go to the college near my home, my answer would be a straight
'NO'. What BIM has given me cannot be quantified and I hope I keep on learning
from this college and gather as much knowledge it provides and increase my
value.

BIM, one of India's premium B Schools has a rich legacy of
imparting value-based education since 1984. Over the years, BIM has produced
several illustrious alumni, who are spread across the world in leading
positions in international rating agencies, World Bank, Exim bank, Citi Bank,
Unilever, Mahindra group, Microsoft, 3M, Nike etc. BIM has an excellent track
record of 100 percent placements since its inception. It continues to evolve at
a rapid pace, and this year was no exception. 43 companies visited the campus
so far giving away 120 offers for 118 students. The highest package that was
offered is 27 lpa and average is 9.9 lpa.
Sanjeevani hosted a number of exciting events and competitions. "Mark-up", an event that tested the marketing mettle of students necessary to
promote a product followed by a series of interesting rounds, essentially
testing their negotiation skills and out-of-box thinking. "Manan", an event
that ideally probed students to wear their decision maker hats and evaluate
their holistic grasp to understand smart cities and provide suggestions and
validation of statements to create a Smart India. "IPL Bidding" was mainly
focused on encouraging students to make strategic choices coupled with
pragmatic thinking to take the right decision in bidding and managing their teams
in a virtual IPL auction. "Yukti" aimed at testing the oratorical, written,
articulation and analytical skills of the students through a series of
interesting rounds like resume writing for fictional characters and block and
tackle. "Clickz" was a photography event to test the creativity and photography
skills of students on the theme 'Sustainability'.
The
Chief Guest Shri. S.Gopinath, Executive Director of BHEL,Trichy inaugurated the
event. He expressed how an MBA degree or any professional degree on it's own
doesn't lead to success. It is perseverance and the ability to observe that
makes the difference. He quoted Shri. V. Krishnamoorthi, former Chairman of
BHEL as a standing example. He explained about the art of negotiation and why
we should focus on creating a win-win situation in the business world. He also
spoke about creating sustainable business environments for a promising future.
He concluded the speech by sharing his life experience on how a personal touch
is always important in business relations.
Sanjeevani
opened avenues for students to demonstrate their leadership skills and business
acumen on a competitive stage.
As 500 and 1,000 rupee notes ceased to be legal tenders, 1st year BIM students conducted a survey on the reactions of general public in and around Trichy. The responses were later discussed and analyzed in detail.
