The third term has began and we are having a host of new faculty this time.
prominent among them is Prof Ramesh, dean and the acting director and Mr Suresh Prabhu, MP ( Lok Sabha- Rajapur constituency).
Mr C M Ramesh is prof par excellence and is taking the subjest of Organiztional design and structure. He is a fellow of IIMA and the way he handles the cases and classes in general amazes everyone.
Mr Suresh Prabhu takes Economic, social and political environment. ( Who can be better to handle this subject than a CA, LLB, ( pursuing doctorate ) person who has been Union Power Minister, Industry Minister, Chemicals Mininster etc ... his resume runs into 10 pages:shocked:
Best part is that he is very down to earth and enjoies answering queries. Not even once in class he behaves as if he is some top guy. and the answers given by him on certain queries ( total facts and figures ) amazes everyone. Atlest, I am feeling proud being taught by such a eminent person.
Today are also lodhi celebrations in GIM ...will try to upload pics soon
U r right Mandar, we have some high class faculties in GIM. U just have mentioned the new ones, but not to forget these
Ajit Parulekar: Brand Maps, the best marketing faculty to teach a game that is "as close to real world as possible"
P Saravanan: FM2, teaches basics of finance in a way u cant forget. Helped me decide that I must take Finance to attend more of his classes
Nila Nayak: HRM, another kewl faculty of HR, very intense and focused. Clears fundas n dedicated teaching makes the class much more interesting.
These are but a few of the gr8 faculties we have this Sem. Not to forget our favourite Sarita Mam.
This term surely has all the ingredients of rocking time with tough mornings in lectures, Football Fiesta every evenings, and some gr8 party nites ahead. Results of Xat would be coming soon and so it's obvious that we look forward for the next batch anticipating them to be even better than us.:smilecol: Best of luck for the results.
Keeping in line with its tradition of celebrating all festivals with gaiety and fun, students of Goa Institute of Management came forward to celebrate Lohri with great vigour and excitement. Lohri is more of a community festival as people gather around the bonfires and offer sweets, crisp rice and popcorn to the flames.
The GIM celebration was started with a pooja which involves parikrama around the fire and distribution of Prasad. The prasad comprises of five main things: til, gazak, gur, moongphali, phuliya and popcorn. A prayer is made to Agni, the spark of life, for abundant crops and prosperity.
Then the festivities gained momentum when the DJ started playing foot-tapping Punjabi folk music. Students colourfully dressed in traditional Punjabi attire danced the bhangra around a huge bonfire. This was followed by a sumptuous Punjabi dinner with dishes including sarson ka saag, palak paneer, makhni daal, gobi ka parantha, gajar ka halwaa and unlimited supply of lassi. Students cutting across religions and state took a break from their assignments to mark Lohri with much fanfare
hi...Well term III has begun on a great note.... We started off by bringing in the New year at the UTORDA beach..it was a nite to remember..We had a bonfire n loads of firecrackers.....
Last week we celebrated Lohri on campus.this was celebrated with all the pomp and style one could possibly expect. Bonfire, Popcorn, peanuts, dances etc.. it was the next best thing to being at home.....Special awards fr the best dressed "KUDI" and "GABRU JAWAAN" were given out....
Currently, The football fiesta(tournament) organised by the HRIDAY club is on and it is amazing to sport the jersey look.....
Last nite MECCA, the Marketing Club held its 1st event of 2008, INTEGRE`... the event revolved around brands and its repositioning,4P's, etc.....it was a great learning fr all of us frm the INTEGRE`.
Apart from all these activities and events, we also have got deadlines to submit our projects....so its time fr us to start workin on live projects this time which again wld be a great experience....
Rohan....
Inder bhai, good point made.. I must say that any event can not be done in isolation by certain group of people.. And i admit that we are dispalying a great team work at GIM. It does not matter if we are from PGP 1 or PGP 2. What matters is that we are a family and a team at GIM and it gives me immense pleasure to say that we are showing this in every event...
Kudos to GIM and certainly a long way to go.. For people who are wondering what Conferencia Logistica is, just follow my signature...
It looks more like a paradise than an MBA institute (although i am sure u guys must be working hard...) Gosh! how much I am waiting for the call..and then convert it..he he..I wish it cud be as easily done as said...

With some nice subjects and a game to play the term has started in full swing....
With initial celebrations of the Harvesting festivals - Lohri (Punjabi style ) and then the combined Grand south indian celebrations - Onam, Pongal and sankranthi (of all 4 south states with awesome food ). We danced to the tune of punjabi songs, learned a mallu song - thi thi tara thi thi thai, thithai taka thai thai thom !!!
And today started with one of the most exiting games ever played by me - Brandmaps a mktg simulation game. Never knew it takes so much of effort to do costing, pricing, media mix, promotion strategy, R&D;, depriciation, sales force, org policies, firing policy :!: etc. etc. ... I guess by the time it ends we gonna be all experts in mktg, costing n HR as well ;-).
Certainly brandmaps is an unique expreience...
Lets c who wins the game..who is the strategist!!
Simply loving this term..looking forward for some more such fun ahead
But still, we do manage to find some time for the traditional GIM way of relaxing....a hot cup of ginger tea @ GIM's favorite haunt - CASA. Oh! How can I forget the mouth watering vada pav's and alu pakoda's @ the Ferry Point. There is ofcourse Diwar Island...what better way to exercise than an evening walk on the island :). :smilecol:
Life @ GIM, its the best that one can see. We are as much interested in the stock market's ups and down's as that of the Indian cricket team. We are as much passionate about marketing as we are about bollywood. We are as serious about Human resource issues as we are about Government's future policies. We take stock of operations as much as we do for the infrastructure in our country. We enjoy systems as much as we enjoy learning new technology.

To sum it up, we @ GIM are serious ..serious about being passionate in everything we do and in everything we are. Be it academics or outdoor activities, be it studying or having fun we go for it..all the way.

We look for each others back, for it helps us thrive in the outside world.
Yes, Boeing flies back to its hangar. I really do not have much to share as of today but then i choose to re-post some of the posts from the past. I so so wish i was still at GIM. They say, a Man can fall in love once in a life time, but i fell twice. Actually i rose with them.
Post from myself around a year back...
A Diary of a Schooler !
June 30' 2005
The day which is still loud and clear in my mind. Flew from Kolkata to Goa via Bangalore. A bad weather welcomed me in Goa and the aircraft made landing amidst strong headwinds and pouring water on a drenched slippery runway. Took me around 5 minutes to realise that Dabolim Airport and Goa Airport is one and the same thing. And then a cab to Ribandar.. It was lush green and the 34 Km drive passed in anxiety with numerous calls to family, friends and of course admissions office as it was already 5 Pm.
Met Jenifer at Admissions and boy, she was so helpful. Then off to Prof Madan (Hostel Warden) to get myself a room allotted. And Guess what, was one of those 10 privileged guys who got to stay in the Girls' Hostel for a year. Before i could grab the keys and settle in the room, dad called up to take the address to mail me something and there went the address on the phone. LH - 97, Goa Institute of Management, Ribandar, Goa - 403 006 with LH expanding to Ladies Hostel.. And the momentary shock came to me, when he asked me, "What does LH expand to ?" And i replied with precision, Left Hand Wing of the College.. When i realised that i said this, i knew it was a making of an MBA...
Poor Dad ! Till today he calls it Left Hand Wing of the College !

Term I had come to an end the previous night and was scheduled to fly to Cal via Mumbai. Had a sleepless night with the campus being virtually empty as most of the mates left on 15th nite itself. Reflecting back that day, I could see a different saurav. Someone who had changed a lot.. Hopefully for Good.. The Guy who has always been to bed at 2200 Hrs had caught a nack of going to bed not before 0300 Hrs in the morning... Someone, who feared making presentations before an audience was damn neat at it by that time.. Some one who needed atleast 7 hours of sleep a day was damn happy with a 3 hour grabbie.. And most important of all, some one who has always been a 80 % or plus till bachelors was so damn satisfied with a 5 pointer...
December 17' 2005
And with 10 more weeks, came another term to an end.. Placements were on and the feeling in the campus was different. Even the trees and the walls gave a new look and seemed that they had risen to the occasion. The previous day got summers in Tata VSNL, Mumbai in Corporate Finance.. And before i could feel happy about getting the summers in the area i wanted, i had to leave for my hometown due to the sudden unexpected demise of grandma.. That 7 hour flight to Bagdogra from Goa with transits at Mumbai and Kolkata was killing and mentally tiring..
March 24' 2006
And the first year at GIM came to an end.. Saw the seniors graduating and leaving the campus in tears.. Could feel their heart as almost half of my life has been in Hostels.. But by this time had made my debut on PG and it opened a new world to me.. Talking to puys across and the country and trying to help them out... There were times when lost my temper on some of them but by this time had made quite a good frens on PG which included some of the big names of current times like Shailesh, Monil, Gulshan, Sumitro, Abhishek and Sonia..
By now, the GD PI sessions for juniors were over and the final results came out 20 minutes before i was to leave for Kolkata on this very day.. And i told, be ready to welcome a new set of intellectuals on the campus after summers..
June 17' 2006
Back at GIM after three months.. But all looked the very same.. Just that there were tons of new faces all around the corner and the so called Introductory sessions of Juniors (hate to call them juniors though) was on.. My Summers had been quite an eventful one and there was so so much to cherish.. At the end of it, i knew that i had met my own expectations or may be even surpassed it by a decent Margin.. The best part was that i made a good no. of pals out there and we are still in touch..
And very sooner, i got a pre placement offer from them. Before i could feel happy about the same, was badly spanked on campus and then I realised.. If at all you have to feel happy at GIM or a great news breaks out, your bums have to pay for it !
September 10' 2006
The most eventful term for me on campus.. My most dedicated time on campus.. Not towards the academic courses though.. Was the Student Coordinator for the national level logistics Conference named Conferencia Logistica organised by Goa Institute of Management at one of the five star properties in Goa and the same was attended by corporates of the highest stature with the likes of Mr. Douglas Bailie, CEO, Hindustan Level Ltd. & The Group Vice-President of Unilever Companies in South Asia and Mr. V Thulasidas, CMD, Air India. This term went in a zippy and gave me the most comfortable times of my stay at GIM. The best part was the synergy between the two batches and the kind of holy atmosphere it created on campus.
And before the term could end, I earned myself a ticket to Belgium for the next three months along with two more mates and boy it was a different world..
December 25' 2006
The Exchange Programme was all over and me back on campus.. The Placements for my batch was over and out as well with everyone selling themselves to high end Cos for a premium and grabbing profiles of hot tins. And seemed that the Doctor has ordered for parties for us in this term. They seem to be never ending.. Anyways with Goan Beaches and the kind of accessories available should not parties be a daily affair at GIM !
January 12' 2007
And thats it ! Have reached a place from where its really difficult to think about leaving the campus.. June 30' 2005 looks as if it was just yesterday. GIM gave tons to me whilst my 2 year of stay but looks like now it will take more than a ton when i graduate and bid my bye to the campus..
The serenity of the campus, the 300 Plus year old Buildings and the aroma will keep reminding me of this place in the decades to come.. If at all, i could express my feelings for the same..
For the time being, I stand and Salute the campus.. Its not what it takes to be here, but what it takes not to be here..
Guess, this remains the longest post of mine on PG and will continue to remain so.. Wishing all the very best to the set of new intellectuals of GIM. Its worth staying here.. Do enjoy the place and on a lighter note feel miserable when you leave..
Aspire pinging me on this,
Great post .... I have selected some sentences from the post ,which have a lot of meaning ....I know what the applicants would be worried of , after reading through the post ... Not everyone sleeps for 3 hours .. there are people who sleep a full 8 hrs .. I am at a comfortable 6.5 hrs :)...
Yes MBA Is an enriching experience , provided you interact a lot with your peers , your personality develops by leaps and bounds .
Will write about my life @ gim next year nearly the same time ... and trust me .. its going to be a really long post ...
regards
shailesh
Shailesh - The time has come.
And here is a call back from the repository.
