nihit.bhansali Says
I am coming for the alumni meet on friday..Just wanted to kno when is the bucket party???

It will be held on Friday nite in OT in all probability.

Nihit, the corridors of OT are just waiting for U to walk thru them aimlessly again,... 😃 ... Everything around is up for grabs to be auctioned .... as for the bucket party, of course as usual its at OTFF corridor, where else ?? This Fri nite ......

Hi Guys,

So you can notice the amount for time that has passed between this post and the last one......

The dust kicked up by the alumni meet, which concluded with the most rocking party that I had ever been to, at the La Calypso Disc where we dance our lives away till the wee hours of the morning, has now settled.

But after all the revelry, we all realised how much work remained to be done. Add to that the work for MECCA, the grand marketing event and the result is that I have had just 5 hours of sleep in the last 40 hours. And still there are presenations, quizzes, submissions and not to mention the lectures that put demands on your body!!!

I simply cannot believe it....my body is still functioning well.....god knows how it will continue like this.

But today I have got a few hours of solid sleep and am no longer in any danger of collapsing.

Lalkaar,The MECCA event happens today and I am sure that after the amount of work that has gone into creating it, Lalkaar is gonna be a
success.

Rest is all fine.

Waiting for the XAT and GIM notifications to come out when the traffic will really shoot up .....

We are there for you guys!!!!

Sincerely,
Snape
Hi PGiites am back after long, and there is lots to share with ull about the life at GIM. Things have been pretty hectic the past 2-3 weeks with lots happening at campus. Lot of events and get-togethers and in midst of them the pressure of submissions and late-nights working on group projects. But in between all this we took out time for something that was a phenomenal success for GIM as an institute and the students as well. On this 15th August Goa Institute of Management organized Walk for India.
61 years ago a nation celebrated its independence from centuries of oppression. A nation declared that it was ready to take on all the challenges of a liberated country. In the years that have passed India has attained many milestones and reached many heights. There have been some failings but many more successes. This Independence Day the students of Goa Institute of Management (GIM) participated in a Walk for India a celebration of the 61 years that have gone by and of the many triumphs that have been a part of these years.
The walk began from Miramar Circle at around 11am, after the State flag hoisting ceremony was completed. The walk concluded near the Secretariat House, Panjim. The national flag was held high as the students walked along singing patriotic songs. The walk was a small yet purposeful attempt to revisit the pride that being an Indian inspires in each one of us. The walk also addressed one of the most challenging concerns facing our nation the need for the preservation of environment. Students carried banner and placards with an aim to encourage environmentally responsible living.
Goa Institute of Management (GIM) has always believed in green living and has strived to inspire this in their students. The college undertakes several measures towards this goal using environmental friendly CFL tube lights, employing solar water heaters and utilizing rainwater harvesting.
We followed up this event with Samriddhi 2008 that was a huge success as well. Shall write more in detail about the same in my next post.

One very important event that took place recently in Goa Institute of Management was the coming of Chief of Army staff General(retd.) V.P. Malik this monday. He delivered a talk on leadership amongst todays youth which was a very inspiring talk coming from an army veteran. We were glued to our seats listening aptly to General Malik share his experiences. Then he shared his experiences regarding the Kargil war which was very touching and at the same time filled our hearts with pride. He showed to us a 2 letters written by 2 soldiers to their families moments before they were killed in combat. I bet there was anyone in the room who was not moved to tears after this. Overall it was an enriching experience for all the Students of GIM. A big thanks to Ribandar Talks and Mandar aka M@K for being persistent in calling General Malik to the campus despite his busy schedule.

Some details regarding General V.P. Malik:

GIM ROCKS!!

Hi,

First of all thanks to Akshay for making my job easy by posting about V P Malik visit !
It was indeed a very successful season for RT ... by season I mean the term.
We had speakers from varied background ..like Mr Govind Rao, Ex Economic Advisor to PM; Mr Hiru Bijali, who spoke on happiness; Dr Arun Jaura, CTO M&M; and finally General Malik....

Before PGP2 go for a break a AD Guru who has directed a bollywood movie is expected.

In next term, host of eminent personalities are lined up, prominent among them is a world renowned management guru, who opened our eyes to fortune at a place which we normally ignored .... (* I wont disclose the names but I think the hints sufficient enough to guess )

Mallya Niranjan: Managers - Your Discision making, planning, focus, execution and patience is going to be tested in next 12 days.
Rucha Nagarsenkar: Sleepless nights at a stretch.. n no its not due to love!!!

Srikanth Bala! On Pension!: considering "organisational learning" and"legal risk" in "fixed assets" "scheduling" for segmenting, targeting and positioning.......This is wat happens if u have a different submission each day

Akshay(Me):If there was one person in life that I would appreciate most today......it would be Amartya Sen.....not becos he got the nobel prize.................. but becos he has the patience to do economics all his life!!! :)

To sum it all up it has been a mad rush last few weeks with team meetings and pagin for lost team members, buying time off from one group to attend another team meeting for another subject happening at another end of the campus, and wat not. But yes,One thing to take away from here is that no one would deny the time management skills that each one of us has learned in the past few months here.

Amidst all this we had a very unique and beautiful theme event organised by our Culture club "Razzmatazz" --BACK TO SCHOOL. Wondering wat this is, we too were not sure but thought wat better way to forget all the tensions and worries than to be kids again. What we saw in the Quad was a sight in itself, all our batchmates dressed as school kids and behaving like them as well !!!!
We had games like hide and seek, lemon spoon, three legged race, pick ur shoe out ....games that we forgot long ago ....An amazing experience for all of us :)

Now we are awaiting for this one week to pass by and leave for our homes when term ends.....but am sure after a day or 2 of visit to our hometowns our hearts will still pull us back to the place that never lets us sleep 😃

Life inside a b school is pretty wierd.

B schoolers accross the country behave in avery similar fashion.

They all sleep in lectures,
they all cut copy paste their assignments,
they all do CS on,
they all do TP during the day and study like maniacs during the nights,
they all chat like crazy on Gtalk,
they all chase deadlines,
they all give a tough time to the profs,
they all do normal things at abnormanl times eg - I once founds myself bathing at 3am, and going on a walk at 2 am in the night,
They all eat when their body absolutely refuses to function if food is not plonked in,
they all think their B School is the best thing that happened to India ever

Now this life here is something that is totally removed from the way normal human beings live. What we call the mainstream of the society. They have a logical and sane lifestyle and a time to eat work and sleep.

I am so worried that when I will go back fr those 15 days, how will I manage!!!! My parents might put me on the first flight to Goa after they find me up until 5 am every night and sleeping till 2!!!

Now considering 50 Odd good B schools in this country we have around 6000 people who have been leading this kind of a bandits life for two years.....

AND THEN ONE FINE DAY THEY ARE ALL LET LOOSE IN THE SOCIETY!!!
Imagine the impact!!!! Our society will be besieged by maniacs....

Philosophy apart, most of the presentations are done now on to the end terms.

Day before we had the infosys Inter B school quiz. 6 teams among 37 GIM students team were selected for this intra quiz. These 6 teams participated in the final round.

The combined score of these 6 teams after 6 rounds of quizzing was 345.

which is the highest for any B school in the nation that Infy went to, and we are talking places like NMIMS, TISS, NITIE, FMS, IMI, IMT, XIMB....

GIM obviously has the highest score in the west zone and cos each zone will send teams from 3 top b schools and only two more schools to go from the west zone, the GIM winners Ankit Khandelwal and Byron Puxty are sure to represent GIM at Incorporate 2008 in the Infy campus!!!!

Yours sincerely had the misfortune of losing the finals on the last question and am now the proud owner of an IPOD shuffle!!!

Like GIM admissions all good things come to me a year later, so maybe next year....

Till then, GIM simply rocks!!!!

Jha is being modest here wen he says dat he did'nt enter the finals.....he was brilliant along with his teammate Pooja who were giving answers that had the audience awestruck. I'm truly lucky to be part of a B-school where the level of talent and intelligence is unsurpassable. What I see daily makes me feel that there is lots to learn from everyone in my 2 years over here.:sarcasm:

hi guys,

good to see infy coming for its Incorporate event...and really good to know that we are no. 1 in the western zone so far.
Congrats Ankit and Byron!!

well, as i say this, u either wud be writing ur end term papers or wud be in the process of preparing for them.

All the best for the end term to both the junior and the sub-junior batches!!

The 2009 batch would now enter the critical term.

And i shud say the same for the sub-junior batch as well as those cos which come for a PPT, mostly combine their summer hiring activity with it.
So all the best for the same!!

In case u need anything, u can always get in touch with me!

smiles,
Tapan.
peace-memories.blogspot.com/

Its been some time since my last post..Yup Tapan, we heading straight for that crucial and most eagerly awaited as well as dreaded 5th term...However B4 we reach there, there's that small matter to be tackled called endterms.

Juniors have already started with theirs and the amount of groans around OT, Jaggu's and everywhere else on campus is steadily increasing. as for us, whole pile of deliverables lined up this week and the next. also all the marketing guys have a beautiful saturday lined up where we have about 12 hours of continuous class!!!

Life In a B-school continues to have its ups and downs. We had the pleasure of hosting a brand new event called Back 2 School where the theme was basically going back to the good old schooldays where we used to play without the stress of pending submissions and tests.. The aim was to provide a stress buster to the guys around...And what a response...In Parulekar's words... WOW!!! :)

Besides this, the usual excursion trips and exploration of Goa's internal beauty continues.. People continue to make beelines for places like Chapora fort, Mandrem, Arambol, and of course Fidalgo's Aunty Maria...

On one of those rare free days, the guys at GIM decided to go for the move Rock On to Samrat theatre..What a brilliant scene.!50 GIM students sitting in a small theatre enjoying the whole experience. It was an amazing experience..At one point of time, there was a whole mexican wave going on in the theatre in response to the songs..!Not to mention tandem headbanging and hand swaying... :)

An update on the weather:Rains in Goa have started back in full blast..

Cheers

Wow!!! its almost dawn and I'm still at my lappy with my Organisational behavior book besides me.

Dat is the story with more than 80 of my batchmates today with the Organisational Behavior end term paper tomorrow. Every person tonite is sleeping with the terror of what mite come in the paper tomorrow. The mid term for this subject was a terror in itself and was more pronounced after the results were declared by Ms. Nina Jacob the faculty for this subject and many of us failed or passed by a whisker. I have almost resigned to my fate and am ready to bear with the paper and get away with it maybe by sleeping through it(because I've hardly finished anything 😞 ).

But the silver lining in this dark cloud is that there are just 2 more days and then we shall be free once again for few days due to term break and will be leaving for our hometowns.

The mumbaikars have booked around 20 tickets together this Saturday and will be having a blast during the journey back home, leading to more camera clicking events. Also, another good news is that we might be getting our GIM t-shirts by tomorrow. Now we too can flaunt it like our seniors when we go back home.WOW!!

Am signing off for now will write in more when m bored of OB again!!

So up picking from Akshay, I will not leave you guys in the lurch, I will break the suspense as to what happened to that grand OB exam that the entire batch was scared outta its guts of.

So I, like Akshay, who is a very studious boy, I studied and studied and studied till sunrise, ....and beyond. Half the college was still awake when I threw in the towel. Its OB after all...you never know it OHH BEE after all!!!

The next thing I knew my roomie who is always tip top ready before i wake up, waking me up. I squinted at the watch and it said 9:35.....25 minutes to go!!!!

So i hurried and by the time I came back after the bath it was already 10:05...and I was in imminent danger of being debarred from the exam!!!

And whats more, I saw a cute little note from my roomie on the table "book le anna"!!!!

SO ALL THAT HARD WORK MEMORISING THAT HUGE BRICK OF A TOME BY ROBBINS GONE DOWN THE DRAIN!!!!

Its a darn open book test!!!!!

and what more, the seniors gave me wierd smiles when they knew it was an open book....."take it..... but it would be of no help" They said....

AND BOY!!!! How right were they!!!!

The test comprised of four questions to be answered in 110 words. Thats all. and the cases were so difficult that I could not make any head tail of it...and whats more, by the time I could figure out which lesson those cases pertained to, some erudite souls near me were already half a page down!!!:boat:

Somehow I completed the test and handed it to the invigilator.

Frankly, it was a test that was most unlike anything I had ever written in my life...I had absolutely non idea if i had done well...or am I gonna score a well rounded ZEEERO!!! I have got no clue AT ALL!!!

Anyway, I came back to my room and was feeling dead sleepy, so I thought I will sleep half an hour before the POM end termthat was 3 hours later...I crashed, only to find myself up with just an hour to go for the POM test!!!!

I woke up, did some last minute preps and wrote the test, I think I have already passed the POM course so no worries.

Tommorow is the King of all Globality, Comm

and the specificest of all FAM!!!

It has been a long term and it will be a long night tonight...

but after that we all will flip out, it true GIM style.

And I look forward to putting a huge post on my experiences of this term as a whole from Bombay, and I assure you it will remind you of the old vella Severus Snape when he was not in GIM!!!!

Best

*bump* Its fun to read life at B schools thread and here I am in Life @ GIM.....
What a coincidence? We have OB tomo as well .Ans unlike Severus Snape we know that its an open book..Knew well in advance infact... What am I doing here? Well what do you expect a pagal to do when he/she knows that there is an open book the next day..? To be on PG of course 😃 ...

Boss Cat+chimera....

there is a saying in hindi...."upar chadh ke dekha, toh sabke ghar me ek hi lekha"

means its all the same everywhere....

Welcome to Life@GIM and thanks for posting.

Well I wish my batch knew about the open book thingy before...but trust me, if the profs are giving you open book exam, they will make it in such a way that the book will be pretty useless.....they will make you rue the moments you did not pay attention in the class and they will ask exactly the concepts that were taken the day u missed the class for some reason.

Well I envy you cos your Status message says 6 hours of sleep...well boss I have forgotten what more than 5 hours of sleep looks any longer....I hardly remember a day where I could gather more than 5..even on holidays...

Exam season, I am flying blind on empty tanks...around 12 hours in the last 3 days....

Today we got out GIM T Shirts....2 long years of wait to donn that roundel logo on my chest....all the sacrifice, now to flaunt it!!!!

Last FAM and Comm tommorwo and I am a free bird for 15 days!!! Yipeee

Thanks again Cat+Chimera for your contri. C u soon again and will definitely meet you on IMT thread.

Sincerely,
Snape

Welcome Cat=Chimera to the Life@GIM thread. As told by Jha Sahab(as he is known here in GIM) it was one of the biggest shocks for us to be told that the OB paper was an open book and that probably was one of the biggest jokes to be played on us.

Especially after having burnt our eyes till the wee hours of morning. Atleast you guys were lucky to have been told about it in advance. Not that it makes any difference, cos for once my myth about open book exams has been broken.

They ensure that there is nothing in the book or in the world, but you urself can help u answer the questions....

Anywats thanks for visiting and sharing ur experiences as well with us. Do keep visiting.

Cheers!!

Hi...

It is a tragedy that you guys dint win the quiz.. I came to know that you guys were the favourite and the other team won by a fluke.. I was never a fan of "PUXTY" .. Anyways.... all the best for your end terms .. was nice reading thru your posts..

Well the juniors have gone on a well deserved term break and college has become extremely quiet...Half the population gone has resulted in obvious halving in terms of noise and bakar. Jaggu's wears a deserted look and he has closed at 12:30 for 2 consecutive days. I remember my first term break last year. Term break hardly made any difference to me in terms of going home as i used to go home every weekend anyways, but in terms of culture shock it was a major change. After sleeping anytime between 2 and 6 in the morning every day , having the opportunity to sleep properly again took a lot of time to get used to. Don't think I ever managed to sleep before 1 in the term break.
Also the whole interaction, bakar sessions, sweating over deliverables, last min prep ...I just missed the whole scene...After about a week at home, I cudn't wait to get back....

Coming back to the college scene, its another week to go for us in the 4 th term..Almost all our deliverables have been submitted and no more classes remain except for maybe 2-3 courses...End terms are fast approaching and thus the need to get back to the books and start studying in earnest...

The past term has seen various innovations in b'day celebrations...The Home delivery system of spanking, Trooper's cakeshot on the Godfather, the new and innovative use of decorations using the b'day person as a canvas.....Makes me feel glad that my b'day comes in the hols.....n so does my roomie's luckily....... :)

Well time to get back to the books and start preparing for the banking quiz for tom....outta be fun.....

Cheers

Very true!!!
Allan ur right when u say that the campus must be definitely having a deserted look without the junior batch. It was the same feeling when you ppl had gone for a brief period of one week...........and truly enuf we missed you ppl.:(:(:(

For our part, We were a relieved lot on saturday what with an end to the end terms and all excited about going home.

It was a mad rush for us, as we finished the exams at 1:00 pm and our train was at 4 from Karmali. We had a bus waiting to take us there at 3:00 pm.:2gunfire:

So, I took my bike along with my roomie(who had a big list of take home's) and zoomed along the lanes of Ribandar in order to make it with enough time for me to pack my bags.

Somehow,we managed to be back by 2:10 and started packing. Now that is one easy task!!! whew....take a big bag and start dumping ur clothes .....how does it matter!!!

Made it by 2:30 with enuf time to start collecting the 20 ppl who were to leave along with me to mumbai by the 4 pm holiday special train from Karmali.

Me and Vaibhav were leaving behind our third roomie Dada, nd believe me it was a tough time for us to see his morose face.....he was leaving the next day.

As soon as we left room there was a flurry of activities with batchmates and seniors bidding each other goodbyes and promises to bring back something from home. It was a moment of mixed emotions - we were excited to be going home and meeting our loved ones - at the same time we were leaving another home behind......... GIM.:boat:

Many of our batchmates who were leaving later greeted us goodbyes and came to leave us at the station. At that moment we realised that we were leaving behind something/someone....that had become part of us for the past 3 months....:happy::happy:

We all had our GIM t-shirts on and there were lots of pix clicked on the station as well as in the train.

We sang and danced all along and no one slept though I am sure there was lot of sleep due for each one of us who were clocking around 3-4 hrs of sleep for the past 2 weeks. But the excitement of going home din't let us sleep.

We got down at mumbai(Dadar) at 6:00 am with promises of having a gettogether during the week and left for our homes.

It was a wonderful feeling being back in crowded mumbai and the familiar smell and pollution, that u hardly see in GOA.....and yes the potholes as well....

5 of us Devesh,Myself, Rajiv,Urja and Nishant proceeded in the afternoon to our second part of journey to ahmedabad by the Garib Rath. I must say Laloo is going great guns.....imagine a 3-tier Ac ticket for 330 bucks!!! I dozed off happily and got up directly at Baroda to bid Urja and Nishant goodbye at Baroda.

I reached my home in Ahmedabad at 8:00 pm and was happy to see my mom,dad and sister. Will get myself pampered by them for the next few days.:happy::happy:

But one thing is true .....I'm not going to boast about the faculty at GIM or the infrastructure or the quality of students.....but one thing is sure....u need to be here to know what u have been missing all ur life. There is something about this place that makes u fall in love with it.

I Am proud to be at GIM, cos anywhere else I would not have been missing college as much as I do now:happy:

GIM ROCKS FOR SURE!!!
