Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management)

Hey Guys,

So here I am back in house, home sweet home..

And what am I doing???? Feeling like a caged animal. 11 oclock and my mind starts looking for my group.where is the assignment, where is the PPT, no submissionsand its killing boring ya!!!

I dunno if you will trust me, but I am seriously feel like a hardcore doper who has just been denied his fix!!!!

I am having serious plans of orchestrating an early return by 23rd Sep or something. Not that I dont love my house, but well GIM calls me every minute of the day. And I try and make do with watching pics on my lappie.

But there remain a few thing to do before I can leave. I have talked to my old college and will be putting up a presentation there on effective GD skills. So I wrote a type of to do and what not to do list for cracking B School GDs and then made a PPT out of that report(What else will B Schoolers do yaa..had our freedom fighters been MBAs our Indian constitutin would have been in a PPT!!!!) My stay at GIM has honed my PPT skills and for once we will be doing a presentation on something we like and not some shitty topic like correlation between the sale of biscuits and burgers in Northeastern Madhya Pradesh or Chi Square test of the sales of a store whose manager considered himself some sort of a bond!!!!

Once that is done I have to catch up with my friends and tell them about my experience in GIM..And finally the GIM BOMBAY GANG MEET at my house.

My heart goes out to all my stock trading friends, may the souls of their portfolios rest in eternal peace!!!!

Last but not the least, thanks a lot Aspire Bhai for your kind words, as I said like GIM, may be Quizzing glory has chosen to elude me for a while, but trust me the high of nailing something which has humbled you before is far greater than getting the thing in first go. Gifting the I Pod to my mum cos the shuffle always reminds me of the Quiz!!!!

PS Allen, kindly convey my best wishes for exams to my neighbour who also happens to be the most talented PGP2!!

The grand reminiscent post on Term one to be put up tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Snape

2 things dude, firstly which neighbor ?? Is it Maverick, Chitochat, Zues or Ab tak Chappan....?? outside chance that it could also be Jayanti also who seems to be everyone's neighbor nowadays
and secondly, Its Allan not Allen :)

Cheers

Oh common, I thought you would have guessed the neighbour man!

Anyway, tell Maverick that I am putting together the sack of foodstuffs that he had instructed me to bring for him....

I apologise for the spelling error, sadly now no more editing it PG...

Now that you have mentioned Jayantilal, the public should know who or what Jayamtilal is ....

Jayantilal is a member of the canine species with who is entrusted with the job of guarding the OT hostel against outside intruders. He is helped in this job by a couple of hired guards who fare far worse than students in Bagera bagera's class when it comes to sleeping on a chair.....

So Jayantilal does not believe in having an outdated name....so guess what, he gets a new name every year. Last year he was known as ISO 9OO1.

Now why is that, because this dude has very very strict quality controls when it comes to what goes inside his stomach. If you throw him food that does not meet his strict quality standards, he will simply sniff it, throw you an absolutely disdainful look as if," dude!!! what the f*** made you think I will even bite into this horrible crap!!!!" and just stomp off...I once faced the ignominy of such a rejection when I threw him a Parle-G biscuit.....so I tried the top of the line Hide and Seek Cookie, the best indian made biscuit money can buy.....again the same result.

Determined, I threw him a peice of a monginis cake I had nicked from a birthday party in the quad, ......same thing.....so either this guy has diabetes or something and knows that this stuffn aint good for him, or he simply eats non veg food at Genes or somewhere.

If you try and pat Jayantilal, he will show the least reaction, you will be lucky if he opens his eyes and acknowledegs your prescence. Wagging a tail is absolutely out question anyway!! No wonder we call him the "SUPER SENIOR"

All in all prescence of these dogs in Campus is a great morale booster. They are like pets, what if they dont take no food from you. Two white dogs also guard the LH, and then there is Kaloo, the hyper dog with probably with a few loose screws aand a special talent for tearing apart dustbins and wrecking havoc in OTFF and Admin....

Rest is all goin fine...but looks like there is no Junta on PG.....Akki, tell peole bahut so liya ab kuch post karo!!! ;-)

Sincerely
Snape

ur rite snape......it seems dat lots of ppl are lazy to post on PG dese days.......we need to wake dem up.......
rahul bhai and mak i can understand are deep in exams.....

bt niks, sandeep and deepak bhai kya ho gaya ......where are u.....share ur experiences as well yaar......

as for me am awaiting the new batch coming up with queries and would be all the more happy to help them in queries regarding GIM and making up their mind in joining the institute of their dreams. Will be starting a new thread soon inviting admissions queries from aspirants wishing to join GIm.

Jha and me very well remember how our seniors actively helped us in resolving queries regarding the admissions and various other things that may seem stupid but were important to us as aspirants back then. Rahul, maverick, mak, aspire......the ways u helped us we shall take on the mantle this year.

Will post the link to the thread for admissions 2009-11 soon.

hey ppl
i hope u ppl acknowledge dt GIM has locational disadvantages.

hw z d placement scene changing in the last few years
as in the company profiles, and everythng else
hw do u ppl find GIM?
i hpe nne of u regret the decision to join the insti

Hi Ankit,

I donot agree that locational disadvantage may be a dampening factor for a B-school. In fact with video conferencing facilities available with companies and institutes alike its a small world these days.As regards. GIM the placement scene has been great since the past 3 years, with companies coming again for the selection of our students. Also the packages have been on the rise, not that it should ever be the only parameter while choosing ur B-school.

Also if u know about XLRI and Bhubaneshwar both of which are located in areas where you may consider it as a locational disadvantage. But look at these colleges and I'm sure companies would not mind going the extra mile. Same is the case with Goa Institute of Management. The college over the past 15 years has created a brand name for itself in the corporate world and this is evident in the placement figures for the past few years. For more information on the same visit http://www.gim.ac.in/uploads/studprofile/1_placefile_PLACEMENT_REPORT_2008.pdf

Also I can assure you of this fact that none of the 118 students that took the decision to join GIM this year would ever regret their decision. I can personally vouch for all of them.

Also if my modest experience matters, then I would like to add that I am a software engineer who worked for 2.5 years at Larsen and Toubro Infotech and then at JP Morgan Chase. I took this decision this march and I donot regret it a bit.

In case you have any other queries please post the same at the following thread. Would be all the more happy to help you.

hi guys,

Well, there is this strange feeling u go through when u r heading back home after spending ur first 3 months of ur MBA in a place we call heaven.

Wearing GIM T-shirts all the way and feeling excited about it is one thing which we all do especially in the first year. And then we miss almost everything of those 3 months we spent in GIM....friends, classrooms (well, at least we used to miss classrooms), bakar, Jaggu's, Gene's and the list keeps going on and on.

No matter wherever u r, far or near, missing GIM is gonna be a common phenomenon throughout!!

Enjoy the term break guys!! Out of the few big term breaks, this one is the longest and the only one where u wud be staying the max at home during ur MBA.

Smiles,

Tapan.
Memories

Hi Guys,

Glad to Inform you that Mumbai GIM Roadshow has begun.

Yesterday I fixed up an appointment with Podar College BMS department where a huge crowd of people preapre for all these MBA exams.

So I offered them a "GD WORKSHOP Geared towards cracking B SChool GDs".

Being from that college and GIM both helped and they organised GD workshop for today.

So this morning I and my batchmates Niranjan Khandekar aka Niru and Rahul Ganu landed up at the BMS department at 9:45 am. And like true budding managers, the BMSites put up the projector and classroom and everything ready within minutes and the session was on by 10 15.

I presented my PPT which was a guerrila guide as to how to carck a b school gd.

It was titled "THE LOST ART OF DOGFIGHTING ACROSS A TABLE - A practical guide to cracking B School GDs"

The presentation went on for 45 minutes and I must say I put in almost every funda taught by prof Vernekar, and guys, it helps.

Now comes the best part, after the workshop was over, the Prof there was pretty impressed and asked us to conduct a GD and assess the students. So I gave them an abstract topic because factual requires info and i did not have any cases wid me. Every PGP1 will agree with the abstract topic I gave them...it was...

W O W !!!!!

It was a good discussion topped off by some cracking feedback by Ganu and some big brotherly advice by ever gracious Niranjan. We had a doubt clearing session on GIM, gave out the poster and had nice lunch at a nearby udipi...which I must say was cracking at the seams with college Hotties!!!!! A welcome payoff!!!!

I have been called once again to conduct a GD Session next week which I am gladly gonna do and hopefully swing some real good talent to gim..

till then,
rock on....

This is probably My first post as a GIMite..n dats bcoz i am missing GIM so very much that i want to be linked to it through every possible means.Life has neva been the same after coming back..be it the walk by Mandovi..or dinner @ Genes..be it the couple of niteouts dat i've experienced..or sleeping in the class as if its nite..i miss 'em all!!!!i've got soo very habitual of the regular 'bageirah bageirahs' n the 'WOWs'..!!!!n i so much miss our very own IP..!!The surprising part is me missing the hectic schedule..woof!!:o...Life @ home is sumthng m finding dull n slow...still trying hard to sleep b4 5 in the morning..Dis is wat GIm does to you..i've kinda turned into an insomniac!!
Thanx to severus snape aka Jha fr mentioning jayantilal n kaalu:)..but a correction...kaalu has all his screws intact..its juzz dat he(it) luvs all ov us (which is kinda ovedoze on his part:wink:)
Dying to get back to GIM..m even ready to sacrifice the home made food n be contented with late nite Maggi at Jaggus

Scintillating aka Surabhi
PGP1, Goa Institute of Management!!

Hi **~~ScInTiLLaTinG~~** (Took me a while to memorise the syntax)

I never said Kaloo is a mad dog...I only speculated that he might have some of his screws loose....and boss, that is a speculation I can make about every person on the GIM campus!!!

Still remember bullying you into washing your hands after you patted him:laugh:

That is so true, the kind of change that our daily schedules have gone through, we feel like we have come from abroad.....

As very succintly put by your roomie....in GIM, night simply means lack of daylight...FINISH.

And considering I have always found you online before I hit the bed (and I am a night outer myself) means tumhari toh halat bahut bekaar hogi. I try and sleep by 2 by watching slow art movies...touche types...lekin ab woh davai bhi kaam nahi karti...

Guys, remember one thing about MBA....its like selling your soul to the devil. For 2 years, you are owned by the college....your life is not yours, it belongs to the college, and they will polish you and sell you to the corporates.

A good B school is like a boot camp where they push you to your very limits.....AND BEYOND....So that tommorow when you work, you find things almost...easy...

But that does not mean we do not enjoy.....

How we enjoy, well for that Be our guest on GIM 2009 - 11 Batch!!!!!

Sincerely,
Jha
This is one of my first posts since pagalguy decided my old id had outlived its life and stopped accepting it anymore. Anyway this is the last day of the 4th term for me. Have a FISsion Impossible in the form of an exam to complete before I can say that I am 2/3rds of the way to completing my MBA. We PGP2s have barely a week of holidays so before long we will be return, back to where we truly belong. Given the short duration of the vacation many of my batch-mates have chosen to stay back, to relax and thoroughly enjoy all that Goa has to offer. So heres to me signing off to what has been an incredible journey over the past 4 terms and what promises to be even more engaging in the terms to come.

Hi to all.....
its been a while since i visited this thread (blame it on hectic schedule or my lazyness...whtever !!!!)...would like to share an experience which made GIM proud once again....

yesterday, sunder (our very own violinist cum JPR ) won "claim to fame " , a personality cum talent hunt event , part of Manthan 08, organized by Tata Institute Of Social Science (TISS),Mumbai.......it was an inter b-school event with participants coming from all premier b-schools of India...infact both reuben and sundere were in last 6....both gave awesome performances......specially sunder's lukka chupi(RBD fame) and vande matram instrumental touched everyone's heart....i and ankush were the lucky spectators (or cheerleaders should i say ?) who experienced these performances.....both got standing round of applause from the entire crowd....we really felt proud wearing those GIM t-shirts.....it seemed like outside world noticed and acknowledged the amount of talent GIM students have...
three cheers to Sunder, reuben and GIM....GIM rocks
cheers
jagdeep.

Will answer u in GIM 2009-11 batch helpdesk thread

well finally i m back after a long hibernation..................
Wat journey it has been in last nine months
I remember the day on which we had our XAT exam...........Xavier coll bhubaneswar
it was an unusual cold day and i never knew that this day was abt to turn my life .
Then tat sultry morning in Kol where i was interviewed by Anand sir and Rajini mam......
And then that wonderful train journey wid sherry, ashwin,AVK,talli, ritesh and Anish to Goa
And then the heaven itself------GIM

And now in home,it seems i m away from home
i remember almost getting emotional wen i locked my room(Admin-92) b4 coming for the holis

and now i m counting the days wen i can go bak and again get myself busy wid PPT,assignments and submission..........nite outs and fidalgo

The thing i m missing the most is our IP........ohh that PJ session b4 the exam aur that TP on rajiv and niru
i m missing it like anything

Had one of the most beautiful bday i cud hv hoped for,on white sand beach in moonlight wid parents and family around me................
but then i was missing Niru, akki, kapil and gang...those cakes and frooti and coke and wat not
but i m sure i m gonna get all those wen we unite

missing u guys a lot

p.s.-> that black dog is still my target number1.............if he again tries to come near Admin block u better save him

Just read abt Sunder and reuben ...........congrats man.......u guys really rock

and it was even more nice to read that jaggu and ankush were there to cheer them up......i hope jaggu and ankush had proper clothing on themselves(not the IPL type cheerleading)

and abt Snape taking classes on GD. good work dude
the topic was just gr8
Wen i hear ur efforts and the topic,i say WOW!!!

gr8 work guys,i wish i was able to do my bit then i m currently in a location which certainly has a locational disadvantage

and abt quizzing, just wait for BrainVista in this term....it will be bigger and better.............:2gunfire::2gunfire:

Aisa kaise ho sakta hai ki poora ek din nikal jaye bina post ke aur woh bhi hamare rehte hue???

So today I had another fruitful day wherein I put up another presentation at IMS Powai. I was the only person because the rest of the gang found it pretty difficult to cancel Sunday afternoon engagements with friends...I also had to cancel it but my highly understanding friend actually came and sat through the presentation!!!

Addressed a batch of 35 students on the do and donts of the treacherous road called MBA and then asked them if they had any questions regarding the XAT and GIM admission processes.

Many doubts regarding the app procedure and about Goa Domicile were cleared. The enthu among the Junta is quite palpable and I am sure the next batch will also set the bvar higher....I will bet my last penny that the cutoff will jump this year....

About the sectionals, I dunno whether they will be introduced this year.

FAM results are out and I can atleast show my face in atleast one subject...

Wait for STATS and the subject over which all of us have a fantastic grasp of theory...POM!!!!! Tab mujhe aate daal ka bhaav pata chalega!!!!

Bouncer bhai....I am creating a couple of quizzes too...IP pe khapa denge...

Rest is all fine keep rocking

Last Leg of the GIM MUMBAI ROAD SHOW ON TUESDAY, 23rd SEP 2008.

Some News from College

Our (PGP-2) exams are over.. and still some submisssions to go.. :huh:While I write this, I have just finished writing my Banking term paper.. But still B2B and StratMan submissions are left (Gosh Submissions dont leave u in term break also..!!!)

Most of our batch has gone home and there are some 40 odd people staying back in campus (or should I say SLEEPING in campus)... We generally sleep during the day and leave for the KILL once the sun sets ..

40 odd people hanging out together .. Fidalgo is having a real tough time ... and so is INOX.. Sher-e-Punjab... Nh-17.. Anushka.. Such n Such and the list goes on and on and on..

Jaggus these days closes at around 9 and opens around 11 in the morning...Well even Jaggu has gone home...(Finally Prakash and Balak Ram got some holidays).. But somehow during the lunch time they have a new market - the Belgians..The brand Jaggus seems to be famous there also .. Mess remains deserted and I think it may also be closed because most of the people are eating out these days..

Tommorow the plan is to watch "Wednesday".. INOX people are going to make some good business tommorow..

@ Jha: Maverick is in Mumbai.. He has got a list of stuff to be bought and make sure you assist him.. Otherwise you know the punishment and the venue..

This is to all GIM aspirants referring to this thread...

Did you see this...

Thats the kind of support system do we have here in GIM. As we do not have any relative grading, even though there is competition, there is no "cutthroat"...which means we all live like family....and look out for each other.

Once we were faced with a huge list of questions and one of our very own puy cracked the whole set and multicasted it...saving tens of asses in one go.

I remember cracking and Multicasting solutions to a case whose solutions are nowhere to be found on google....

So even though I am least likely to get stuck...but I will be least bothered if I did, cos as Rahul has said, someone will definitely come and help me out...(aa jaana bhai)

Apart from the ususal themes of HEAVY WORKLOAD and ROCKING PARTIES at GIM....This is a hitherto unexplored facet of life at GIM....

Everyone looks out for everyone else. I have left stuff right from my books to my lappie around the college and the only thing I have ever lost is a soap!!!!

Cant wait to be there....

Snape

Sm1 PM me Maverick's number.....

gr8 snape ur turning up at GIM on 26th,i will reach on 29th morning at 6am at margaon station....and we hv a 8:30 class....dnt know how things are going to shape up..............i believe we are going to see the actual application of "Just in time" on 29th morning
i hope not to miss the first class of the 2nd term and tat too of rajini mam's
