You all must be wondering what am i doing @ 7:25 AM, when the classes start @ 9. Well I dint sleep through the night, not that i wanted but was forced by the OB term submission.
Life at GIM is very hectic nowadays, with Mid-Terms approaching and the number of assignments crossing the double digit mark, we might go Insane, but that is what MBA is all about. The PGP-2 are also busy with report submissions and classes frm 9 to 6.
I finally managed to become MECCA JCC.
And the best part is today i am going Back home .
Signing off now..

Hi Guys,
First of all wish you a very very happy Friendships Day.
This is one occassion which is celebrated with great fervour in GIM.
Festivities started late in the night in quad and went on till the wee hours of the morning with almost the entire PGP1 and many of the PGP2s dancing around the campus and wishing each other. The atmostphere was simply electric.
Besides, in order to usher in the friendship day and and spend the free sunday meaningfully a bunch of us decided to visit Coco beach in the morning.
We were eight people and had only three bikes at our disposal.
We did what is the most obvious thing to do....threatened a junior Mr Ravish Manchanda into surrendering the keys of his powerful Bajaj Pulsar 180 to us along wid the papers
In the morning Sriki, Ashwin, Anushree, Harshit, PJ, Richa, Bouncer and me set off for Legacy of Bombay for breakfast. We were probably the first customers of the famous south indian food joint.
I commandeered Ravish's Pulsar 180 and rode it from College to LOB and from there to Coco Beach, my backseater PJ took the reigns at the fag end of the journey on muddy roads where controlling the beast wasnt my cup of tea.
From COCO Beach, which was deserted due to dolphin watching off season, we then proceeded to Vagator beach.
We enjoyed the view from a high cliff. The sea and the cloudy sky made for an inspiring sight...
As destiny would have it, at the cliff we found a Pineapple seller and we had freshly cut rotunds of juicy pineapple smattered with hot red chilly powder...it was quite yummy!! Not to mention that dear old PJ is also known as 'unfair Pineapple" on IP. Pineapple is his brand mascot!!
From there we went down to the beach and while the gang indulged itself in photography and general masti on the rocks...I busied myself in watching a fisherman angling in the choppy waters nearby...
His equipment was pretty primitive, a fishhead stuck as bait to a hook, with a stone as a sinker and the whole thing attached to a nylon which he slung far away into the water and then waited patiently...holding the nylon thread as if his life depended on it....
I observed the tenacious gentleman for half an hour but the coveted tug never came...
Finally....I had come face to face with something which could be more frustrating than a one sided love...
I really hoped that this guys next meal did not depend on whether he caught any fish or not...
Just like a one sided love....the sea did not give a damn if he packed up and left,....
just like a hopelessly smitten man..he had no power...no bargaining power...
The sea would not take his tantrums and care two hoots if he went hungry...
But still....this guy, instead of turning vegetarian would come every day and throw himself at the whim and fancy of the sea...just like ppl do for their unrequited beloveds...
But my train of philosophisation was brought to an end by a sudden drizzle which soom turned into a torrent...while my gang at the rocks was caught unawares...I rode out the storm under the shelter of weeds and bushes growing along a nearby crevice and came out pretty dry...
Once the rains subsided, we kept our stuff in a deserted taapdi on the beach
but only to jump back into the sea!!!...It was simply awesome swimming in the sea in this weather. In hindsight I feel it was risky and a bit bullheaded thing to do and I will abstain from swimming in the sea till Goa Government offcially declares it to be safe.
Others even went to the other end of the beach where a Kannada movie was being shot. Apparently the heroine was new...and was doing a rain dance sequence...
After a while we all left the beach and made our way to Infantaria where we tried out some really exotic dishes of the legendary joint near Calangute beach.
and then it was ride back from Calngute. Ravish Manchanda's powerful Pulsar 180 gobbled up the roads like crazy....even at low speeds the bike handles so well that it was a total delight !!!
Finally I got caught by the cops for not sporting a helmet and was fined Rs 100. They also issued me a certificate for my immense bravery, for risking my life by not wearing the head protection.
I tried convincing them that my skull was pretty think and no harm would befall me but they did not buy my story ....
It was one awesome Friendship day spend in the company of dear friends and guess what..its not over yet....
more details soon.
and yes Adventures of the sex quiz part 3 coming up soon.
Life@GIM rocks on as usual!!!!
PLACE : OTRR
the mid-term fever has engulfed all the PGP-1's , ECO paper tomorrow has forced all to study in reading rooms, library and classes at this hour. Even I am trying to comprehend some of the alien concepts. The seniors are busy with their submissions and electives.
But still life is fun @ GIM. i got to visit the Church of St. Augustine aka Haunted Church . Its a magnificent structure and the place is a bit eerie.
The last week of August had lot in store for us. We have Samriddhi ' 09 - a conference on Social Entrepreneurship on 29th & 30th Aug.
Then on 5th of Sept is the Grand Alumni Meet.
Rest the campus is buzzing with usual activities such as

PGP1-Goa Institute of Management,2009-11
Though a late entrant here, I thought it better late than never. I would like to share some insight on the "Walk for India" event that was organized by the students at GIM on the 15th of August, 2009. One of the best initiatives I've been a part of till date. More so important because of the social angle it had, the theme for this year's walk being "Stop Child Abuse". It was a grand success and made a sure impact on the people who witnessed it.
It was great to see the ever enthusiastic students of GIM who were joined by the Director and faculty members of the institute participating in the walk. The walk started from Miramar beach and ended at the Old Secretariat building. All throughout this stretch students shouted out slogans and tried to send out the message that child abuse should not be tolerated. All the participants assembled around the national flag opposite the Secretariat building and sang the national anthem. The walk concluded with the director Mr. Peter DLima addressing the students and congratulating them on the successful completion of the walk.
Finally my thoughts on the whole event:
We as future managers believe that we owe our bit to the society. The walk against child abuse only exemplified this fact. It personally makes me proud to be a part of this great Institution which has always held values above everything else.
And last but not the least it was an Independence day celebrated in the right spirit...!!
Thanks

Hey Guys!
Great to see so many of my batchmates active on PG.
The countdown to our end term exams has begun and I can't believe that the first semester of my MBA is nearing completion. Maybe its the mandovi, maybe the amazing camaraderie shared between the students, but - Time truly flies at GIM! and btw thats pronounced GEE AAI EM and not gymn...
The walk for India was an event to remember. "Stop child abuse- save the future" was this year's theme. It not only made all of us aware of the harsh realities in our world but made us end our cynicism and raise our voices. It was a refreshing change for me- from being a mute spectator to being an active participant. I will remember this Independence day as the day I became the change i wanted the world to see.
Warm regards,

So here comes my first post on this thread since I joined GIM.As rightly said by Charlessss... it has been nearly 2 months now since we joined GIM and the time has vanished like anything. So our semester exams are on the way and we have around 4 submissions supposed to be submitted by next week. But I hope that various clubs would be having some so called stress busters in store for us.Yesterday only we had an event called 'BOND' organized by the HR club-HRiday.It was a team event which haled us to scratch our brains and complete those 15 teasers in 15 minutes.Such kind of events really act as replenishers for us.
Enough for now. Will keep on posting about other upcoming events.

Finally I am back to PG. A full two months have passed since I joined GIM. In the course of these two months there has been a healthy dose of learning both inside and outside of the classrooms. Whether it is Prof. ADGs theories of economics or the endless hours that I spend discussing every imaginable topic ranging from Indian Laws, Defence Scenarios to the ethnic composition of India with my hostel mates I find every moment here a very rewarding experience. Having Hostel mates with diverse backgrounds ranging from Law to Hotel Management to Engineering has created a crucible, in which experiences from all these amazing people have been combined and provided everyone with a treasure trove of knowledge.
Loving every minute I spend here.
My post after a long long time explains the deficit of time i am facing.
A lot has happened in the past 1 month and the campus has been buzzing with back to back events and activities.
First was the WALK FOR INDIA organized by the PR cell on 15th August where all the faculty and students of GIM waled about 4 Kms for a social cause i.e. CHILD ABUSE. It was a memorable event as it made us realize our duty towards the society. We as MBA students have missed the importance of a healthy society in the race for money and position. Events like these are a real eye opener.
Then all the clubs had their first events organized by the JCC. HRiday - the HR club organized the "2x4 BOND" which was a filled event on the lines of some basic HRM and OB concepts. Though due to some prior engagements i was not able to attend the event, but heard it was fun
MECCA - The Marketing Club ( Of which I am the JCC) organized " SAMSARA CHAKRA" which was based on the concept of Re-branding, the event was a FULL HOUSE with people negotiating and forming strategies in the first round and then advertising one product in AD of another in the second round. It was a great experience organizing the event and taught me how to Use photoshop to create some awesome posters, windows movie maker to create videos and how to advertise the event.
Then came " SAMRIDDHI 2009" , the annual Conference of GIM with this years theme " SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP". A 2 day conference comprising of 5 sessions and around 13 speakers from the field of Social Entrepreneurship. Some of the eminent speakers were - Dr. Trilochan Shastry ( Dean IIMB) , Mr. Arun Diaz , Ms. Sohini Bhattacharya, Mr. Vikas Sharma ( XLRI) , Ms. Saloni Malhotra ( CEO , DesiCrew).
The conference opened up the untapped avenue of Social Entrepreneurship and gave some really though provoking insight on how we can help the society alongside making profits.
This conference also provided us the platform to interact with the eminent personalities up close and personal and also a good weekend at a 5 * resort and some awesome food.
For more info on the conference log in to : Samriddhi 09 - Goa Institute Of Management
Then IT@GIM - The systems club organized " FANTASTIC 4". the event as heard was a innovative one. and i was not able to attend because the registration were closed in 1 Hr of opening.
Then came one of the most awaited event " THE GRAND ALUMNI MEET" , a 2 day Meet where all alumni since the class on '93 came back to their "ALOO MATAR" ( ALMA MATER ). There was the student alumni interaction where we got to know about the industry, their experience after GIM and everything under the sun. The alumni association arranged a cultural evening and an event by MECCA & BrainVista for the alumni. The meet concluded with " BASANTI CUP". It was a fun filled weekend and it was great to interact with the alumni.
Now all said and done , the end term is due next week. And now its time to pull up our socks, coz there is too much to revise and too little time.
But as always said there is life outside Class n grades.
Over n Out for now
Cheers
Hey Guys,
Its been Long .... n Well its simply amazing to just think of how quickly time flies. And before we even know, we would be done with our end term exams, and would be packing our bags and leaving for home!... We would be done with our first term by the 20th of September...And GIM has truly been a home away from home..!!
To Sum what has happened during the past few weeks....
The highlight was Samriddhi -2009 a National Conference on Social Entrepruenership hosted by GIM. This years conference attracted eminent speakers from all over India, over 2 days.
An insight was provided by people running Successful social ventures, into what is required to get to that level.
Also this weekend, GIM welcomed back its Alumni : , by hosting the Grand Alumni Meet 2009. This meet was spread over 2 days..With the first day having interactive sessions and discussions among the faculty , alumni and the students.
A fun filled event was conducted by Mecca.. to lighten up the serious discussions, and we then proceeded to the Cultural night, which had some amazing performances from the PGP1's , the PGP2's and the ALumni.:cheerio:
People then danced to the tunes of DJ Ryan @ the Ivy Lounge....late into the night...The whole day was a perfect mixture of fun and some serious business !!...
The next day we were supposed to have the Basanti Cup, but the Goa rainsssssssss jus dont go away.............
And for the first time on Sunday GIM welcomed back its EMBA alumni. During the faculty alumni interactive session, various inputs were provided to the college as to what changes can be brought into the EMBA course, and also the highlight was that it provided a door to open interactions amonf the EMBA and the regular full time students.
Being a member of the Alumni association,we had a great time organizing the meet... And we would like to thank each and every one of the Alumni for supporting us during the meet, and look forward to more such interactive sessions with the Alumni.
PRESENTS
THE FANTASTIC FOUR
I cant tell you where, but I was once asked..."So what does IT@GIM do?
To be honest....I was foxed. I forgot the magic word...Systems...
So I said," [email protected] an organisation within GIM, managed by highly qualified, often seasoned ex-IT professional students drawn from the batch, which strives to expose the student community at the institute to the limitless power of information technology to make a difference in the area of effcient business management."
Needless to say...That person refrained from asking me any more questions...
and on 2nd of September 2009, this very IT@GIM came up with their first event, the Fantastic Four.
Well marketed by the 5 newly chosen bright young JCCs with catchy posters and a slickly cut video, the event saw a healthy turnout.
Technical constraints moved the event to G3 Class limiting the number of participants to only 60, ie 15 teams of four, "Fanatastic Four" was a SELL OUT event with 15 teams registering long before the event began.
I was the first to register my team FREAKOMANIAX.
On D-Day the G3 was packed with the sell out crowd and the event began after the brief introduction of the new members of the core committee....The event began..
To win, we were told we had to be quick, witty and gutsy...and oh boy how right were they!!!!!
Round one
Cryptology
We were IP three different password protected documents and a question was flashed on the screen.
The answer to the trivia flashed on the screen was the password to the first word doc.
Inside the word doc there was a grid containing letters forming the names of the prominent IT companies. The IT Companies inside were to be arranged in an order and the 5th company was the password for the next word file.
Finally upon cracking the third password the teams had to register themselves with a organing member.
The first 8 teams outta 15 were allowed into the next round.
At this point, in an allegory to the IT industry, the qualifying teams had a right to nominate two of the eliminated teams into the second round. Here the teams voted for whom they thought were the weakest links.
The Round Two
ID -- Image Detection.
an exciting visual round wherein teams had to identify morphed images of iconic personalities from the IT field and logos of heavyweight IT companies.
The question came in three clues and quicker u cracked the clue more points you got. IT@GIM upped the stakes by throwing in a extra twist in the form of DEXTER power.
The cerebral cartoon character Dexter is IT@GIMs mascot and if a team chose Dexter power and gave the right answer, it would be entitled to a whopping 80 points. The highest possible score without Power was 40.
Dexter power separated the men from the boys....and showed us that in life after MBA too....success will depend largely on our abilities to take calculated risks...
Between the rounds members of the IT@GIM Junior core committee kept the crowd entertained with "Chocolate Questions" and the freakomaniax had half their dinner at the expense of IT@GIM :p
Round Three
PICK YOUR POISON.
Aptly named so, because every team had to choose a topic on which a question would be asked for the team next to it. So in effect you choose a poison to kill your opponent with. The first phase of choose your poison comprised of choosing a question for another team while phase two involved selecting an area of your choice for the question to be posed to you.
Round Four
RAPID FIRE - With a Tweeeeeeeest ;)
Pick your poison whittled down the field to five remaining teams.
And then began the rapid fire round.
I must have attended a million Quizzes in life but I seldom ever came across a more exciting format in my whole life.
I think The final round of IT@GIM event was created with just me in mind... for they comprised of my second biggest love and my third biggest love....that is Quizzing and IP messaging together.
It was a rapid fire round wherein answers were needed to be IPed to one of the JCCs IDs and the quickest and the most correct guy was to win.
At the end of this round my team Freakonomics found itself mired in a three way tie.
We had screwed up in earlier rounds and were determined not to give up and fought tooth and nail.
The guys threw in some awesome questions but thanks to some fast typing by Chacha aka Maverick aka Pratyush...we managed to get the better of the two teams.
Fantastic Four was an grand success. I dont say this because my team won, I say this because a helluva lot of hard work had gone into putting up such an amazing event and the new JCCs Jaspreet, MAMBA, Mayank , Dada and Ms Saloni pulled it off pretty well!!
And last but not the least...The Fantastic Four claimed to ape the IT industry in many ways...like putting losers on bench and employer nomination....
And in true IT Fashion...they proved fine paymasters leaving the Freakomaniacs a thousand bucks richer....
And I have already decided what I am doing with my share J
IT@GIM raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkss!!!!
All the best guys!!!
Reporting Live from OT boys hostel.
The situation is very tense here, with End-term starting tomorrow for PGP-1 and day after tomorrow for PGP-2.
The campus looks very quite and eerie , all are rigorously scanning through the books, notes and PPT. Rounds of discussion are going on in RR's and on IP. A lot of speculation is going on about the pattern and type of paper.
And with 3 papers tomorrow back to back, people are seen surrounded by pile of books. The xerox machine is churning out notes of some attentive students like a machine gun firing rounds of bullets. The ECO bonds n OB bonds are gone underground n off from IP of the fear of being bombarded with queries.
All material even remotely associated with course is being shared on IP. Google might crash due to extensive searches on topics related to course.
CS Onnnn IP has gone down. PLZ MC ( multicast) IP for study material are on Peak.
From GIM hostel, mein hoon Reporter Shreye Mehtani , GIMnews.
Ok guys. first of all apologies for being away for being away from PG for long. Somehow the dread of the the second year being the most important with us taking electives and specializing in one or the other area, time does not seem to be enough at all. But I am happy to see that the junior batch is filling in for me all these while. Thanks guys :)
This entire term went by like a thriller movie....with every moment being filled with surprises. Am happy to say that we have got a gr8 set of juniors who are as enthusiastic as us(maybe even more!!) and have started some brilliant initiatives like the GIM radio and Mandovi beats ,the later one by our very own Shreye.
We had one subject called Marketing Engineering which dispelled the myth that marketing is all GLOBAL ....NO WAY....after this course i'm sure people will say for sure to the Fin Bonds " Chamka!!!" .... cos that was the way Mr Rajesh deshpande, the brilliant faculty for this course used to ask questions to us in class. He taught us all sorts of Marketing models that were btw taken from one of the first books of Philip Kotler known as principles of Marketing engineering. The faculty swore by the belief " English can be spoken by anyone, speak in maths" ....and the constant one liners like "you should not chicken out and made fools of in front of the Client" and "the only truth about life is that it is always at War" are somethings that will remain with each of us for times to come.
Will sign off for now....will keep posting regularly.....
Cheers!
So here we are at the end of our first term. All packed and ready to head off home. Expecting life to slow down a bit in the coming week.
Looking back now it feels like one amazing journey. Surprisingly, it's just started...!!
Now I go home feeling like a different person. There are so many lessons that I've already learnt here. I've learnt the value of discipline. Knowing the fact that 9:00 am is not the same as 9:01 am. The fact that honesty and truth have no grey areas. You are either right or wrong. Most of us would have learnt this as a lesson in practical life. Surprisingly, I learnt it in the classroom as part of OB - Organizational Behaviour :)
I also realised that talking about something and doing the same are two very different things. Actually participating in events like Walk for India on Independence day I felt that for the first time I was making a meaningful contribution to the society in whatever small way it was. And knowing the fact that I was among students who shared this view, made me feel really proud to be here.
Some of the action that happened here as far as academics was concerned. I am someone who believes that a life without learning is a life wasted. Some of the subjects we had here were for me, real eye openers...!! It introduced me to the world of business. Our professors played an important role in this process. I must say, we have some really amazing professors here. They don't believe in making us blindly mug up chapters, instead at every point we are encouraged to apply our learning to real life scenarios. Our Economics lecture almost always starts with articles from the economic times and then we try and relate it to the concepts that we learn in class. For me, that's learning...!!
And friends, believe me, for people looking out for some serious learning, Goa is the place to be. Very few places let you relax after a hard day's work like this place does. That's what makes learning such an enjoyable experience here.
Signing off for now. Will be back soon with some more interesting experiences.
The thread is called LIFE@GIM. But right now there is no LIFE@GIM. Term 1 has ended and it made me realize that LIFE@GIM is not about the infrastructure, offices, Mandovi, Casa, IP , CS. Its about the people who live these things.
With all the people gone home in the break the campus looks eerie. The corridors are empty, doors are bolted, Mandovi is quite so is the IP. With only a handful of us on campus its very strange.
I have never seen Jaggu close @ 8 , Empty Fidalgo, single digit users on IP, no MC for hours.
Now, u might ask why are we still in campus. 12 of us are in the Joint International Internship Seminar (JIIS), which is a student exchange programme with the University of Antwerp, Belgium. We all are doing different projects with our Belgium counterparts. It is a great learning experience as we interact with foreign nationals and see their working styles. And believe me there is a lot of difference in working styles and management of these people. And I can proudly say our Management education is one of the best in world. I am doing a project on " Order Dispatch and processing at GKB ophthalmics", it is a great experience as I closely monitored the operations of a very unique industry i.e optical lens manufacturing.
The Internship is of 2 weeks and will end on 25th of this month, and finally i will too go home, though for 4 days only. 2nd term is starting on 29th. Looking forward to this term as it has a lot of exciting things in store especially Marketing -1 course.
But, there still is some LIFE@GIM, the 12 of us are hanging out a lot, visiting various places, one visit being very adventurous ( though can't talk abt it here 😛 ) , having great food at places like Sea Pebbles, Marriot.
Watching Back to Back movies, having walks by the Mandovi , some of us even studying of certification exams.
Neways me Signing off for this term. See you on the other side of the Break.
Cheers
