i just fell in love with this thread, i knew GIM is a good B school but after reading this thread i just wana be a part of it...will take XAT this year again 😃 that definitely means that last year i screwed it up :(...

Had been to Goa just once, wanted to see GIM but could not get chance. Hope MBA takes me there 😃
Nothing can dissuade me now:)

Keep posting about the latest happenings in GIM 😃 Thank u all

Now again I am posting after a very very long time...

I am at IIT Roorkee for a weekend escape...as FMCG companies only give you a sunday off...Thanks to Gandhiji we are getting a two day weekend...

I would like to present a new chapter in the long forgotten walk down nostalgia lane...GIM Diaries...

This is GIM Diaries 5 (or maybe 6...not sure, too lazy to check)...

It so happened that we used to have a study group that cut across various subjects. So as a result, the group dealt with multiple subjects as single unit. Which means that I will do the entire work for the whole group in one subject and thus can completely forget about doing any work in the other subject. In this comfortable arrangement you only have to work extra hard in the subject that you love and thus let other members of the group deal witrh things that you hate and someone else loves....

So in one such subject which I hated through my gut...my group made a presentation.

Now I knew no head or tale or edge of what the two guys and a girl entrusted with finishing that presentation...had actually done...

let alone knowing what was IN the presentation...I was clueless about the TOPIC of the PRESENTATION ITSELF!!!!

But as it is customary...the PPT was mailed to the whole group.

I couldn't care less.

Now it has been described in the Sunscreen Song that TROUBLE is something that blindsides you on a lazy Tuesday afternoon...

Well it was Tuesday...and it was afternoon....and it was Goa...needless to say you'd be hard pressed to find a lazier turesday afternoon in the whole world!!

Having slept through the first morning lecture (in my bed...no I did not drag my ass up to class that day)...I rose up and cockily went for this lecture.

"We have mailed you the PPT.." Informed one of the group mates.

"Yeah yeah I have recieved it" said I...(After there is no way a mail musnt have reached me)

I walked into class like a major leading a cavalry charge...totally confident...as if my brain was configured with my outlook and everything which came in the mail will automatically go and get saved into my head...

Only thing...it wasnt so...

3 presentations were scheduled that day and 2 went without incident, which means that our group guys werent called and I could sleep in peace. But third time...luck ran out...

and after a twisted and highly convoluted labyrinthine method of drawing lots by the prof...a number popped up...which was 002...my roll number...

I was the guy who had to go and individually present the whole thing. and will be grilled on it to boot. This was the professors way of avoiding what our team was actually doing....organised freeriding.

Like a tecnician setting up the electric chair...the guy in my team quickly went and brought about the first slide in the presentation on the projector.

I rose solemnly and reached the well. That day It actually dawned upon me why the place where people present is actually called the well....

Nevertheless...I looked at the PPT and read the title and try to recollect if I knew any damn thing what was about to come in the coming slides...

The answer that came from my insides, along with rumbles in the stomach that would match any irritating ringtone...wasnt very positive.

I nervously pressed the key and moved to the first slide....and simply read what was written...and then moved to the next slide...

But the wizened professor had seen the likes of me...year after year...after year..after year...and he quickly knew I was as clueless as a little boy in a strip club...

"why are you reading??" Tell us what it means...

"uff...if I only knew what it meant...

But now desperate times call for desperate measure...I raced my mind to find a way to wriggle out of this problem...and soon my eyes drifted to the solution that was sitting right in the audience.

Now any guy who says that his eyes haven't drifted to the more beautiful specimens of the fairer sex sitting in the audience while making presentations is plain lying.

But like Shrlock homes...I not only noticed...but also observed.

Some chicks in the crowd were deeply political and violently feministic. (though the content in the PPT had NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING to do wid feminism or women in general)

And thus on the third slide I said a line about the content of the slide and went on to compliment my own female groupmate who had "put in a lot of hard" work to do some special research on the topic...information on which will be "revealed in later slides"......and I had no darn idea what was there in the later slides...but I followed the statement with a string of statements which effectively conveyed that in my opinion women had no business being in B schools...

"They tend to drop of the workforce in larger proportions than men"

"Thay have the responsibility to bear the next generation"

"They are not designed for leadership responsibilities" (nailed it man)

"They often turn into liabilities for companies"

and the ultimate Bomb.... "what proportion of women will actually repay the society what they have taken in the form of a B school seat...

By now I was certfied male chauvinist pig. AAG POORI TARAH SE BHADAK CHUKI THI...The girls were raising their hand to counter me and pandemonium was about to come...the hotties were already sharpening the knifes to tear my intestines out!!

Guys didnt know what to say and the girls were baying for my blood...and soon a flood of oestrogen fuelled CP engulfed the whole lecture.

I countered every point with even more incendiary statemnts like..."You guys will eventually return to the kitchen"...you always have the option of leaving everything and getting married and live comfortable on your hubby's money...an option you routinely excercise..."....

Soon the professor had to jump in and try to douse the fires but I did not let it die arguing with him that I 'failed to realise why didnt the B school had them write a bond that they wont marry and have children and leave the workforce till the next 10 years ",...and other such bullshit...

and like the underequipped fire department of UP Small towns...all his efforts came to naught and the debate raged on for long enough...

I soon looked at my Titan Fast Track....and knew that this Titanic lecture is on its fast track to doom...5 more minutes and thats it...

When the time was up...I felt relief that is comparable to what Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri must have felt when he saw the Squadrons of Indian Air Force Hunter Jets coming to the aid of his besieged company in the battle of Longewala in 1971 !!

But it was one memorable day where after being completely corneed I set the floor on fire aur fir side me ho liya....

I went well prepared the next day...presented and our group got a decent grade...Third among 7 groups !!!

Though this episode did teach me a lesson that one should go prepared to class...but well...it was too late to mend my ways anyway...

Moral of the story - Prepare for class unless you have hotchick feminists in ur divison who can save ur ass !!!

(major details have been masked for the sake of safety of the writer)

Sitting by the window, the cool breeze blowing , a cup of hot chai...I just realized how time flies mannn !!!

It seemed like just yesterday the term breaks begun , and then the reality sinks in !! I have a train to catch tomorrow , and even before I realize I'll be back at Goa ..

Goa Yeah.. Definitely a Home away from Home..

So kal phir se... Fidalgo, CS ONNN, GBMs, TP IP, pls mcccccc, etc.!!!
Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go GOA!!!!! ( Thx Dilip for these lines ;))
