Thread ke asli Raja to aap hain Sardar..

Kuch likhiye to sahi.. apni purani yaadon ke bare mein.. 😁

People think Goa is all about becahes, bikini babes, bebinca and booze...

But there is a little known side of Goa which has a very potent effect of connecting you to your spiritual self...and this is what often kept me from losing it during the trial and tribulations of Life @ MBA...

I am a deeply religious guy. Now I do not engage in long winded puja paath and other rituals, but I have a very deep and unquestioned faith in existance and grace of god.

Going to temples has been a way of life for me since ever. My parents tell me that when I was born, the government quarter allotted to them by The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay where my dad worked, was way to small for me...so they used to take me to the institute temple where I crawled and chased ants...and I learnt to walk...and stood up for the first time in the temple itself...

Going to temples has always been a stressbusting experience for me and I visit it more often than most people of my age. Besides there is the obvious advantage of washing your sins away as well as a round of bargaining with the god...

I am a thread wearing brahmin but hardly know a few shlokas...so I converse with the deity...asking for whatever I want.

As long as I was in Mumbai...it was Siddhivinayak for me....So much I pestered the god that I am sure he must have been fed up of me. I went before and after the XAT...
before the results..
before the PI and after the PI...
and finally after the final results....

So when I came to Goa...I developed a similar ritual at one of Goa's holiest shrines, The Mangueshi temple.

This shrine has a long and illustrious history attached to it. Generations of Saraswat Brahmins gave their entire lives in protecting the deity from the marauding portuguese during a phase of terrible religious persecution.

But today the temple is an island of extreme serenity built on the spot donated by the Peshwas in the quaint village of priol.

Mangueshi Temple - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We had a direct bus to the place from Ribandar...the ticket was 10 bucks if I am not mistaken.

I needed no excuse to drop in there. I had heard of the temple but for the first time I went there with a batchmate of mine from Mumbai whose father had come down to stay at the monastery attached to the shrine and perform some weeklong ritual...

But I was so totally enchanted by the surroundings that I frequented the place a lot. Most of the time I came alone....sat inside the temple for quite a while...on the comfortable rugs within the sanctum sanctorum and just soaked in the environment.

Then I'd talk to the god...tell my problems and make my wishes. It brought great deal of peace to me.

Then I would come out and roam around the area and then go have a Dosa in one of the many joints dotting the pathway to the main highway.

I would mostly visit the during the evening...and by then smoke from some distant choolha will hang low in the air and the environment would be just magical...

I went to the temple before quizzes, of the academic and extra curricular type both...asking for luck...

I prayed there before journies...asking for safety...

I went there innumerable times during the placement frenzy...

After getting rejected in three companies on the trot I went there late in the evening on day 1...It was a risk because if I missed the last bus I'd be stranded and at the mercy of some friend from college to come pick me up. Shreye Mehtani guarenteed that he will pick me up if I got stranded!! God bless his soul...

I got placed the next day and again went...this time on bike with fellow WIPROite Prasenjit Choudhury. A known agnostic he became a faithful that day.

Its a unique aspect of life at GIM...more characterised by hedonism and frantic activity....but memorable nontheless...

This weeks Update

Razzmatazz had organised a Pool Party for the Batch....The timing of this party couldn't have been better...an absolute stress-buster!!!!

From the Academic part its a slag period with lectures & lectures and more lectures

Yesterday we had an Industrial Visit to nearby Sesa Goa Plant. An interesting visit to study the process flow and the production of Pig Iron and Coke
Got an Opportunity to see a Blast Furnace with Molten Iron at 2000 C for the first time. To see the actual functioning of this plant is so much more different than having theory lectures or reading it up from books, the gap is quite huge.

Events lined up for the coming week are
Ribandar Talks Sessions this Sunday
Photography Competition Colors

As for the rest ...as said before
GIM never sleeps!!!! Life goes on!!!!
GIM Diaries 7

One of the most memorable experience at GIM is that of running around for sponsorships for WIZBIZ...

I would like to add a word here that even though WIZBIZ is conducted under the auspices of MECCA, its essentially a GIM event. And I have no qualms in admitting that despite being a Mecca Core committe member many batchmates ran more than me, sweat more than me...and spent more of their money on petrol than me...and got more money than me...

The hunt for sponsorships was one of the very few things which actually prepared me for the kind of work I am actually doing in FMCG sales rigfht now....may be Prof Bala's classes did too...

Mu hunting partner was none other than hero of many a GIM diaries story...my trusted friend...Srikanth Balasubramanian..and his even more trusted TVS Victor, thanks to which he always emerged victor in his battle with the system.

In the Al Gore and Pachauri world, Id like to commend his Victor for being a very eco freindly machine.

Now dont get ideas, this praise is not for being a smoke free vehicle...on the contrary, well past its service deadlines, the motorcycle left a smokescreen for the traffic behind it. It was a eco freindly vehicle because it was a "paperless" vehicle...no registration, no insurance papers...and being the staunch environmentalist that Sriki is..he even refused to carry a plastic inconveninece introduced by the British called"the license"...Sriki apart from being a environmentalist is also a staunch supporter of liberalisation and therefore protests against licenses. Imagine if every bike went the Sriki way...how many trees would be saved !!

Scene 1

We went to meet the manager of one of western indias emerging small sized banks...and which had sponsored WIZBIZ for a few times in the past.

We took out the PPT and showed the old man how sponsoring at WIZBIZ will get such immense publicity for his bank that it will soon be rubbing shoulders with the ICICIs and the SBIs of the world...atleast thats how me made it sound like...

soon we descended into giving him senti..."sir u have been sponsoring us for so many years...its all about the relationship...". In fact we also gave him some cock and bull story about making it compulsory for every GIM guy to have an account in that bank and what not...

So he said...yeah we will see what we can do...

and then we went again...and again and again..

Finally we lost it..and I asked him sir how much do we have have to wait..??

He said,"no no...we sill surely sponsor the event...Its in the process.."

Whats it? whats in the process...? those details were confidential.

Again the next day...this time again the same answer,"Its in the process"

So I asked," but sir how long will the process take?"

"I have send the proposal to the head office...they are in the final stages of reviewing it..."

Few more days passed...

we went again, this time his desk was empty...fearing the worse I enquired about him...

The clerk answered,"Mr Rajapurkar has gone to a new branch opening..."

which Branch I asked...expecting to catch him if he was nearby...

"Rajapur Branch.." pat came the reply, leaving me and sriki in splits...

Again I and Sriki bunked a few classes, missed a few grade points and landed in his highness's darbar...

This time even Sriki lost it...(and thats rarer than a solar eclipse)...

This time he says,"you should have patience..we have to manage all the processes you see...the entire staff is on a holiday to Ooty.."

At that time the expression on Sriki's face was simply priceless.

That day on our way back...we decided that whenwe get rich...we will install a new subject at GIM...P.P.P. ...Thats Patient Process Management.

It will be a 12 credit course..and will have more than 50 lectures...and the first few classes .,..there will be no faculty...the students will simply have to sit and wait for the faculty. During this time only half the enrollers will leave. and finally, the topper will be presented with a gold medal, but not at his convocation but at a later date. When...we dont know. But if the topper asks for the gold medal...he will be immediately failed because asking means he has lost patience and does not desreve to top...

and so was the bullshit we talked on the bike..

watch this space for scene 2 and scene three which will be even wilder...

cheers

Snape

I agree snape...truly life changing experiences...IF you want to know the boundaries of patience..pitch to these people as they define the boundaries...

Waiting for the next episodes...

P.S...u have mentioned me more in your posts than the number of posts by me...Truly a honour 😃

are the PGP2's staying separately in the Old campus and the new PGP1's staying in the new campus? And they are separated by 40 damn km ??

If this is true, then this is pathetic!!

I am planning to come to Goa sometime in the next week. Would come to the Old campus and hope to catch some of the PGP2's.

Till then keep smiling!

Tapan.

Plz don't use this thread for posting queries about GIM.
This thread is exclusively for posting the experiences @ GIM !!!

I am sure that as and when the GIM form is out, we would inform the same via Pagalguy as well.

Agree with Mayur that there will be a separate thread once the form is out. That said, you may like to check the following link for more information: Goa Institute of Management, Ribandar Goa India, India's premier Management Institute.

Online registration to GIM closed on 31st December 2009 last year. I do not remember the date when forms were out, however, can search for old threads and you will find the date hopefully. Good luck for exams.

Hey Tapan

Its true that at present PGP-2s are at the old campus but there is regular interaction between the two batches due to various events organized by the clubs and also The PARTIES 😁 !!!!!

In this day of technology 40kms is not a problem to keep in touch..........
Plus we have bus services between the two campuses

you are welcome to meet the PGP-1s also:D when in Goa !!

Cheers:cheers:

This year, in addition to the various clubs at GIM, a group of music and performing arts lovers have banded together to completely transform the way life at an MBA institution in India is perceived. The extra-curricular oriented talent that is prevalent in this current batch is quite admirable. The juniors next year are in for quite a treat with a lot more non-academic events and activities being added to the daily routine of the batch.

As juniors now, we can only look forward to next year!

Stay tuned for more .
