Update on Operations and Supply Chain Club

Scopes, The Operations and Supply Chain Club existed at GIM till 2005 after which it was scrapped as there were hardly any student taking up Operations and also because of minimal paticipation in the events of Scopes.

The intake increased from 120 to 240 for the batch of 2010-12. There were students who were interested for lots of Electives of Operations. For the first time in History of GIM, Operations was offered as Majors...

As many as 9 students opted Ops as Majors and more than 50 students opted it as Minors from the batch of 2010-12. When we joined the college last year, a lot of us were interested in Operations. After getting in touch with the Seniors and the Management, few students from our batch started the club again on a voluntarily basis. We organised quite a few things : Industrial Visits, Talks by Industry Experts, Workshops for certifications, etc.

When it came our turn to opt for electives, 27 people from our batch have opted for Ops Majors and around 75 people have opted Ops as Minors. And that is a big number considering the Batch Strength of 240. And it was high time to increase the activities on the Ops front. And after holding talks with the "Student Advisory Council", it was decided to make the club official once again

So, SCOPES is now an official club at GIM. We nominated 6 SCC's among ourselves (I was lucky to be one) and then also recruited 6 JCC's from the Junior Batch..

SCOPES organised 2 events in the term that just concluded :
1. The Logo and Tagline Contest
2. The Beer Game

Both the events got an overwhelming response from both the batches. We are almost in the final stages of deciding our Logo and Tagline and the winners will be announced soon. "Beer Game" was also organised successfully and Scopes Team got appreciated for all it's efforts. Lots of events are being planned for the coming terms.

We now have a "Facebook Page" for "SCOPES" ---> https://www.facebook.com/ScopesGim

Stay tuned for further updates...

Signing off for now. Will come back soon...
@avinashkrjha i wanna live this kinda life.. hopefully I'll make it in the first attempt :-)
See u soon sir !!

Attached are the pics taken from the room in the early morning today.

Sad that I will have to leave this place after 6 months... :(

Term I breaks almost coming to an end..... again the 8.45 schedule will start...
Will see tomorrow mornings SUN at Goa,
this time 9 subjects.... so expecting a busy schedule of classes..

But again expecting a life like 1st trimester.. ie., deadlines, submissions and 2 releasse the stress regular stress busters and fun events by different clubs

What a perfect day.. 😃 India beating Pakistan in yet another world cup match.. The victory gets even more special when you watch it along with your hundreds of batch mates in the Hostel Common Room.. Looking forward to the next match against South Africa now which will be a sort of Quarter-Finals..

PGP1's are getting back for the very tough "Term 2" ahead. It might be very tough but then Fun Part never dies. The term is going to be full of events. As far as I remember, as per last year's trend, the term will have 2 Razmattazz Party, Diwali Celeberations, Cultural Programs, Club Events, 3 Bike Rides, etc.

Yesterday we had a grand party by two of our Batch Mates who recently got engaged with each other.. So, 2 States (Kerala and Punjab in this case) meet at Goa. We all wish them a very happy time ahead..

Monsoon is almost getting over now and the scene is all set for some long bike rides. It's been a long gap ever since I last went for a long bike ride. The toughest thing would be to find out time for that. Despite of having a holiday in this week, I have 20 classes scheduled in the week. And with some extra classes, that gets even more..

Also, the Admission Process for the Batch of 2013-15 has started with online applications going live. We already have a helpdesk thread running now for the Aspirants. PGP1's are all set to carry forward the work that we have been doing..

That's it for today. Will get back again.. 😛 :P

Change in Focus at GIM

Check out the Pic Attached.. :P

As most of the happenings have been already described by @avinashkrjha beautifully, I have a very little to say 😃 Right now we are sitting in the hostel common room and watching T20 World cup finals, which has not turned out to be as expected. Gayle force has been washed ashore without much effort. It seems it is going to be an easy victoroy for the Lankans. But whoever wins the match really doesn't matter. What matters to us is the electrifying environment while watching the matches 😁 The room is already full with many people standing and cheering the teams. This is not limited to cricket matches but applicable to all the football matches too.

If you would believe it, today morning I was woken up by drizzles. Could you believe it? 😃 Rain drops fell on the window frame and tiny droplets splashed on me. This is the first time in my life I was woken up by something other than alarm clock, friends banging the door, mom's wake up call. It is a boon to someone who loves to live amongst the nature. The monsoon rains are expected to prolong for few more days and I expect rain droplets to wake me up quite often! This could be the last Goan monsoon that I am experiencing as I am already in my second year. But we can never forget these moments, it will remain in our memories forever! We will cherish every god damn time that we spent at the beautiful campus of Goa Institute of Management :)

LIFE GIM

Started Master of Business Administration,
Managed to do it in the best part of the nation.
With some notions and some notifications,
Keeping in mind to study the journals and publications.

Having Finance, Marketing, HR & Operations in mind,
Economics, Statistics, and Communications were never kind.
When classes are not in the vicinity,
The monster comes with the name of Corporate Social Responsibility.

In association with a stressful lifeline,
Stress busters from clubs come time to time.
Thankful to you placement committee,
Your efforts are proven in reality.

A club controlling all, namely Students' Advisory Committee;
Once upon a time heard in a meeting, they are planning for charity.
Most clubs conducting quizzes with eternity,
Sometimes Brainvista might be feeling, what's their necessity.

People joining MECCA, HRiday, Sofia & SCOPES,
With some specialization in mind or some hopes.
The PR always tries for human integration,
Alumni's efforts are sinking in maintaining relations.

Great initiative by Inicio, RT & I-three,
You give us something, whenever we are free.
E Cell, cutting cost by Privilege Cards' introduction,
Health Club is neutralizing that by monthly deduction.

Prayas, Razzies & Kshitiz claims 2 bring the co-curricular,
When IT @ GIM tries to help all by some particular.
EIS trying to bud in every random occasion,
We are still expecting CHOIR to come with a cacophonic presentation.

Trying to rhyme some lines and enter into poetry,
Sorry, if I have hurt anyone's Chemistry.
Being a PGP1, our journey is really far;
So, Mai aap logo ko pareshaan karta rahunga baar baar.

Sunday mornings are usually the same unless there are lectures scheduled. The Ecoclean staff knocks on your door until you wake up and tell them to come later, or allow them to clean your room. Today was no different. The difficult part is waking up and answering the knock. Once that's done, usually I let them clean the room anyway rather than postponing this ritual.

The hangover from the previous night didn't make matters easy. Saturday nights are always eventful in Goa, even when you're not necessarily chilling in the beaches but spending time in the hostel itself can be very happening. Especially since Saturday nights come with football on TV in the hostel common room.

It was past 11 am by then. Since I had woken up, the next big issue was finding food. Too late for breakfast and too early for lunch from the cafeteria. So I headed towards the stationery shop instead hoping to ward off hunger till noon with biscuits. Jaggu bhai was there as usual watching a movie on his computer. I bought two cups of tea, but was confused between Bourbon and Oreo. I tried to think what the BrandMan professor had commented about their market strategies the previous day but since I couldn't recollect, I ended up buying both anyway.

I had chicken biriyani for lunch, which my friend got parcelled from a nearby restaurant. To be honest, we do order food from restaurants outside campus once in a while to break the monotony of having cafeteria meals. Recently the E-cell in campus has introduced a loyalty card for students enabling us to get discounts of 10-30% in various eateries across North Goa. I'm guessing the frequency of having food from outside campus will go up with this initiative.

Yesterday was a pretty tiring day with lot of lectures and a presentation till 7.30. So my plan was to laze around on Sunday but with lot of deadlines coming up and group mates constantly sending reminders and work-division for projects, I decided to read an HBR case lying on the bed. Soon I dozed off and had a bad dream. In my dream, I had another dream. Some sort of dream-ception. When I woke up, I promised myself that I'd sleep properly at night, finished reading the case and did some browsing. The broadband bandwidth upgradation that BSNL did last week meant browsing is now much much faster.

After tea and evening snacks, I headed to the college football ground - lush green due to the never ending Goan monsoon. We had divided the team ourselves and one team ended up attacking and the other defending. It was a cagey affair with some rough tackles flying, but in the end we somehow won 1-0 and had the last laugh. By then it was 7 pm and rest of the evening was spent discussing random things happening in campus, sitting outside the hostel with friends. Apparently Street football is also being organized later this month by one of the Clubs.

Shower and dinner followed. I could see that most of the cafeteria was cheering for Windies as they thrashed the Lankans at home. But what am looking forward to is the Classico at Camp Nou later today. The match is at 11.20 pm and I have some free time till then which prompted me to write this as I was checking out the new Pagalguy website.

Thanks for reading.

Hala Madrid!

you missed SPORTS QUIZ ;)

@avinashkrjha lovely one!!!!!!!!! but one thing to say konkan looks awesome in rain...just currently....

The assignment and group formation season has started. People are hunting for talents to form subject groups. Yeah this happens in GIM every single time. An efficient group has members that contribute equally towards the completion of assignments.
We have projects invariably in every subject. These have to be submitted at the end of a term. As efficient and productive managers, we take up the project just 2-3 days before the deadline and complete the same with flying colors. 😉
So, If you want to judge the real efficiency of us, you got to observe the way we coordinate the work among themselves just before the deadline. Well now, I got to leave for the team meeting. See you later!

5th Term at GIM Probably the most crucial one. People have taken the best possible electives in this term from "Brand Management" to "Mergers & Acquisition". I have also taken a mix of subjects in the specialisation of Operations to HR to Marketing.. 😁 It's been very hectic doing so many classes in the last 1 week and many scheduled in the coming week with few Visiting Faculties. The Schedule gets even more tight with few Pre Placement Talks Scheduled.

Apart from all these, there was a workshop organised for HR Students which was taken up by Mr Kaustubha Parkar, AVP - AXIS BANK. It was very insightful and an enriching experience for all of us..

SCOPES, The youngest club at GIM is all set to release it's Logo & Tagline in a day or two. All the clubs are done with the Welcome Dinner with PGP1's. Even SCOPES is all set for it's 1st ever Welcome Dinner in the coming weekend..

Catch up again soon.. 😃

Good afternoon Everyone! It is a sunny day at Goa, which is an indication of end of monsoons!
Adding to Jha's updates on SCOPES, there are other good news for people opting for Operations Management. It has become one of the most sought after courses at GIM since its inception. It was for the class of 2012 Operations Management was first offered as majors. People opting for operations has tripled in our batch, and it is expected to double in the next year, with people from reputed manufacturing firms having joined GIM.

As a result of the growing enthusiasm among the students for Operations Management, the college administration has done a commendable job by convincing Prof. N. Sambandam to join GIM. He has a tremendous experience in the field of Industrial Management and has taught at NITIE for more than 25 years. He has also been the visiting faculty at various IIMs, IITs and other prestigious institutions. He is currently the Dean (academics) of GIM and teaches Lean Management, Statistics, Logistics Management, to name a few. You can have a look at his profile here -
This is just the beginning, as we are expecting the management to rope in more experienced faculty in the field of Operations Management.

And thats it from me, folks! Got to rush for the class 😉 Catch you later!!

It was a bright sunny day after so long.. :)

And got some time to capture few pics of the Campus. I am sure you all will like it. Find Attached here..

It hasn't rained for the past 5-6 days at GIM, 'The Winter is coming' :D

It has been an exciting day so far. I just returned back from the Multi Purpose Hall (MPH) after playing Street Football match organized by Prayas, the sports club at GIM. Sadly, we lost the match by a goal difference, but against a tough opponent. Around 25 teams are participating in the tournament, with 7 members in each team. The idea was generated last year, conceptualized and executed in style by Prayas this year. Every little thing in the tournament involves innovation. For eg, the goal posts were made out of 2 shuttle poles that are movable. The ball is made of sponge which makes sure that nothing inside the auditorium is broken.

A lot of PGP1s and PGP2s are seen cheering the teams as the matches went beyond 11 pm in the night. Many teams contained a mix of PGP1s and PGP2s and both the batches shared a lot of lighter moments throughout the course of the tournament. Loads of funny incidents, fine tackles and high levels of skills were displayed during the matches. We even have an international player, an exchange student from Portugal! An interesting fact is that, every team should have atleast 2 girls. This shows the women power at GIM 😁 Some matches are won solely because of the goals scored by the girls in penalties! The tournament is expected to go on for 2 more days. As it inches towards the end, the quality of the matches is expected to awe the audience, nobody wishes to miss these matches.

As I am talking about this, the deadline for one the Finance assignments is approaching. Time to face it head on, complete it and march towards MPH to watch the amazing game. Catch you very soooon with the other updates!

Wid love!
@transformation : You have said that it's not raining and "The Winter is Coming". I would def agree on the first part but not with the word "Winter" . Nights are a bit cold but then have a look at the Days. It simply reminds me of those days when I used to work on sites with My Safety Helmet on the Head. Thankfully, we have AC in the Classes, Library, MPH and at all the places where the work goes on. But while on way from Hostels/Classrooms to Cafeteria, one would simply get roasted under the scorching hot sun if he or she walks very slow.. 😛 But the weather becomes very pleasant at nights.

Last few days have been good. Last Friday on 12th, we had a Razzmatazz Party near "Vagator Beach". And how awesome it was can be known from the fact that I don't remember anything that happened at the Party after halfway. I was already partying with few friends in Hostels before leaving for the Party. And after reaching at the Party Venue, it was Full On Party Mood. Not to forget the Journey though (From GIM Campus to Vagator Beach)..

After that, this week has been hectic with lectures, assignments, presentations and a Pre Placement Talk. Well Yes, this is the time when companies start coming for PPT's and this continues till the Scheduled Placement Week in 2nd Week of Dec. Companies get an oppurtunity to increase visibility in the Campus. They interact with the batch, and tell them about the offered job profiles and the career growth path in their organizations.

Going ahead, many students were excited in the last few days about "UTSAV 12" that happened on 15th Oct evening. UTSAV is an event conducted by C2C which has now renamed itself to "INICIO". The Club aims to promote the entrepreneurship culture among students. And what a better event other than UTSAV it could be. We had various stalls by the students with Food Counters, Game Counters. There was Goan Prawns, Chinese Food, Golgappe, Momos and what not.

Today is going to be a hectic day again with 3 Lectures, 1 Presentation and not to forget the GBM. Signing off for now..
# GBM is the General Body Meeting that is conducted by either Student Advisory Council or Placement Cell
NAVRATRI CELEBRATION: THE DANDIYA NIGHT of GIM

Today's mantra: Room pe baithhna mana hai

After the UTSAV celebration, it appeared that nothing can be better than that.

The GUJRATIs have proven it wrong. Nice initiative by @alay and company.
The course of action started some days back, with the application of management skills in calculating the EOQ of the
DANDIYA-STICKS.

GIMites never lack enthusiasm. This was reflected in yesterday night's DANDIYA PRACTICE SESSION. Equal were the efforts of the DANDIYA WORKEX HOLDERS, in teaching us the basics of those 2 sticks.

Today's morning view (out of the window) was something different. Parking lot was really suffering from scarcity of vehicles and was in translation to NAVRATRI ARENA. As the Sun, was moving from east to west, GIM was dressing itself to artificial morning, with HALOGENS & FLOOD LIGHTS being implanted.

No wonder, the background music in this festive session and a day free of assignments and submissions is dragging me there. More than half of GIM, students + faculties are waiting for 15minutes to past, and bring their DANCING-KEEDA to action.

Rest of the updates, will be after the celebration
