Hi People,

"Life@GIM" --> If you are thinking it is restricted inside the GIM Campus, then please think again..

After the Dandiya Night on Last Saturday & Durga Puja Celebrations at Panajim, it was a Holiday in GIM Campus on 24th October. And Prayas, the Sports & Welfare Club had arranged a Bike Trip to Tambdi Surla seeing the availability of time. As many as 36 Bikes went together for the Trip. I decided not to go as I had already been there last year. Instead, I decided to go to Panajim for a movie.

If I go to Panajim 10 times, I stop at "Genes" while returning from Panajim to GIM Campus on 9 occasions.

Genes is a Bar & Restaurant just in front of Old GIM Campus at Ribandar besides the Mandovi River. How lucky were the Batches of GIM till 2009-11 . How fortunate they were to have got an opportunity to study on the Banks of Madovi River. Not that, we are not fortunate with only difference being Mountains replacing the River. But while having Food with a Can of Beer at Genes and having a look at the Mandovi on one side and GIM Gate on other, it almost gives me a feel of studying in that same campus only. And as the days are passing, I am sure to increase the frequency of Trips to Genes.

Today was another Typical Hectic Day with continuous classes from morning 9 to evening 5:40. And tomorrow is even worse. It starts from morning 8:30 and ends at evening 7:20. I just hope to be awake all through the Lecture.

Signing off for now..

Sharing a photograph taken today from the campus.

Amazing view of the Rainbow..

NAVRATRI CELEBRATION: THE DANDIYA NIGHT of GIMToday's mantra: Room pe baithhna mana haiAfter the UTSAV celebration, it appeared that nothing can be better than that. The GUJRATIs have proven it wrong. Nice initiative by @alay and company. The course of action started some days back, with the application of management skills in calculating the EOQ of the DANDIYA-STICKS.GIMites never lack enthusiasm. This was reflected in yesterday night's DANDIYA PRACTICE SESSION. Equal were the efforts of the DANDIYA WORKEX HOLDERS, in teaching us the basics of those 2 sticks.Today's morning view (out of the window) was something different. Parking lot was really suffering from scarcity of vehicles and was in translation to NAVRATRI ARENA. As the Sun, was moving from east to west, GIM was dressing itself to artificial morning, with HALOGENS & FLOOD LIGHTS being implanted. No wonder, the background music in this festive session and a day free of assignments and submissions is dragging me there. More than half of GIM, students + faculties are waiting for 15minutes to past, and bring their DANCING-KEEDA to action.Rest of the updates, will be after the celebration
Let me take the liberty of updating you how the Dandiya celebrations transpired :)

It was an amazing night. All the vehicles were moved from the usual parking lot to Multi purpose parking lot. The lighting arrangements were perfect and so are the Gujarati beats that created a perfect festive atmosphere. Everyone was clad in traditional Indian dress and were ready with the Dandiya sticks. In my opinion there were more girls than guys, not to mention the girls looked really beautiful in Saree, Salwar Kameez and other dress forms which I have never seen before 😃
Few knew how to play dandiya; most of us didn't. Organizers asked all the enthusiasts to form an inner circle and an outer circle to mark the beginning of one hell of a night! It was the first time in my life I played dandiya. It was so easy that it took barely 10 mins to learn the basic steps. The best part about dandiya is, the same step could be repeated for the next 3 hours, without any need to improvise dance steps whatsoever 😁
I felt happy when I received compliments for my dress from many girls 😉 We dance for around 3 hours without feeling the slightest trace of tiredness. Slowly, dandiya night turned into DJ night as the Gujarati songs were replaced by Punjabi and English party songs. People eventually accumulated the dandiya sticks in the center and moved their feet differently to suit the new and fast beats. Samosas were distributed for free. Refreshments were available to everyone to keep the energy levels high. At 12 o clock it was time for birthday celebration for one of my friends. Birthday bumps were promptly delivered and a cake was cut right in the middle of the parking lot in the open air. Everyone clapped with their dandiya sticks - a clear sign of innovation, which was the theme of Samridhdhi 2012.
The celebrations went on till 3 a.m. There were many photo sessions throughout the night. Numerous FB profile pic changes were observed over the next 2 days which generated many likes from people all over the country as they witnessed one of the grandest Dandiya celebrations in a B-school. Dandiya 2012 will definitely be an unforgettable occasion in my life. It is during such occasions we realize how multi-cultural GIM is. Be it any celebration, we participate and volunteer with sheer enthusiasm. We are just one big FAMILY!

Adios! Wid love!

Well, I just can't stop myself from coming to this thread for long.

So, let me update you all with something related to Ribandar Talks @ GIM.

Ribandar Talks is a club at GIM that invites eminent individuals from the industry and academia and provides a platform for students to engage in a constructive & meaningful dialogue with them. These speakers are champions in their respective fields and they are people who have achieved great heights in their chosen profession or interests.

In the last week, we had one speaker in front of us who is a leading Ad Film Director, best known for his work on the Famous Pepsi TV Commercial with Amitabh Bachan and Sachin Tendulkar. Most of you might have guessed it by now.

Yes, none other than Prahlad Kakkar :)

And I felt even great because he is a pass out of my School - Sainik School Kunjpura, Karnal :D

Some of his statements while he talked -->

# 90% of the successful entrepreneurs in India are the ones who have been sacked by their companies

# what we do is 90% bullshit and 10% passion

# its nothing to do with the genes! just a short cut you look out for

# Positioning is not Kamasutra

For more details, have a look at this --> http://www.gim.ac.in//pdfs/press/ntbuzz25102012p3.pdf

Good job done "Ribandar Talks". Cheers

We had yet another eminent personality for a leadership talk in the campus.

Ribandar Talks

A real life story of Rags to Riches, a person who started from a scratch - rather 'scrap' and now is the Executive Chairman of Vedanta, a company with a revenue of $14 billion.

Mr ANIL AGARWAL

He told about his past, his success stories, about the Company and then all the Tips , Do's & Dont's for being successful.

And this is what I liked the most -->

Never be scared of Failures. And never ever regret that you could have done better. Stay focused and keep working hard.

Hope to see some more such people as speakers in Campus before I leave..

I was working with his organisation before joining GIM.

Could not meet him, in the 2 years of my worklife. Even my other colleagues who are at GIM, got the opportunity to meet him form the first time.

Got to know how he started from the age of 19 years, as an owner of a scrap distribution firm and became owner of a FTSE 100 organisation, spreaded round the globe.

Thankyou GIM, to give me the opportunity to meet him

The most painful thing about MBA is doing the Morning Classes. Even more when you have been awake almost whole of the night doing assignments. And even more when you have been partying the whole night..

Today was no different. After sleeping at 5 in the morning, I had to wake up at 8:40 to attend a class at 9. The class was of New Product Development and it was the last lecture of this Elective.

While I was going to the class, it was fog and clouds all over the Campus. The weather is changing dramatically here in the 24 Hours. Foggy/Cloudy in morning, Very Hot in day time and Cold at nights. And to the surprise, it has been raining also in between in the last few days.

But whatever be the weather, the view is always great.

Here is the Pic taken in the morning.. :D

lovely pic sir

Time seems to be going so fast. We get to celebrate Diwali GIM Style only twice in the whole span of life. And for PGP2's, both the opportunities have passed. This time, the celebrations were even bigger.

RaZzMaTaZz and Prayas, the cultural and welfare clubs respectively are the two clubs at GIM that work together on the occasion of Diwali to make the Celebrations a grand success. The evening starts with Diwali Puja. After that, Ampi-Theatre was house full for the amazing fashion show that left the audience speechless. The Ramp was on Fire with display of talent & beauty.

And then there was Special Dinner sponsored by RaZzMaTaZz.

Next was the very traditional thing that happens at Goa Institute of Management only. The Ladies Hostels are opened for the room decoration competition for 2 hours. So even the boys get an opportunity to visit the ladies hostel only twice during their stay at GIM Campus. The hostels were decorated with lights, posters and rangoli's.

The celebrations finally ended with some fireworks behind the Hostel 5.

Attaching the photo of Hostels on Diwali Night with this post.

After around a week of fun with festivals and minimal submissions, the time comes when you can see each and every person in their rooms or with their group running here and there carrying their books n laptops. Yes, here comes the time for lot of submissions. Need to do 5 submissions by Monday morning, along with 2 tests and 2 presentations piling up, one quiz and one presentation on monday, another quiz on wednesday, then again a presentation this week.

Now that we call a proper mix of studies and fun, last week we had time to do fun and this week, the schedule is packed with submissions.

its been a long time since I penned something down apart from the midterm papers. We had the Diwali celebrations in GIM, undoubtedly my best Diwali away from home. SRK did spoil the mood in the morning, but we had a wonderful ride for the first day first show of JTHJ. Had an awesome lunch at MoonLight before helping out the winning team in Panache'12 with their music.

It was great to see the foreign students also being part of the celebrations and dancing to Gangnam Style... Then we finally got the chance to visit the Girls Hostel for a couple of hours to see their decorated rooms. The Razzies played their part with the dinner and the never ending crackers.

Good memories from this Diwali, Hope to write some more soon..

Goa Institute of Management.. Ah.. Why did I apply to this college 3 years late ? Had i been in this institute in the previous batches, I would have been so near to the beaches..

After the afternoon lecture today(even on Sunday), I thought it was a long time I had been to a beach.. It was 4 p.m. I just thought that it is high time to hit a beach.

I picked my Bike Key, called my friends and told about the plan of going out. They agreed..

After I started my bike, we decided to go to South Goa this time. We started from campus at around 4:15 p.m. We reached Colva Beach at 5:30 p.m. The bike ride was exciting like every time. On the way to beach, My Bike crossed 17,000 KM. So it's already more than 11,000 KM at Goa for my Bike..

After having a walk on the banks of Colva Beach, I grabbed a KF Strong Beer and sat besides the beach. The view of Beach water, Para Gliding, Boating, etc was awesome.

From there, I along with one of my friend left for Majorda Beach. It is only 6 Kms from Colva Beach. Oh Dear.. !! Am I in India ? What a scene it was? It was one of the most beautiful beaches ever seen at Goa.

I grabbed another bottle of KF Beer.. It was such a beautiful atmosphere. Come December End, and I am sure that I am going to hit the South Goan Beaches very frequently because all the beaches of North Goa has already been covered so many times.. :)

GIM, please give me the opportunity to explore more of Goa very soon
