One of the USP's of Great Lakes is the industry interface. The Strong Business Advisory Council, makes sure that we get the best in industry to interact with. And thats one of the reasons why i thought i will write abt the same along with faculty.
I will just post along a brief profile of People from industry who have visited Great Lakes in past and in future, will keep you updated as and when the event occurs. Some of the names are mentioned below:
Mr Alok Sharma - Director Apple India, He was here to speak on Leadership, values and strategy. His was one of the most insightful lectures, wherein he suitably used examples to support his claims and was able to speak at the same wavelength as the students wanted him to. Not only did he shared his thoughts, but he made sure he publicised the new Apple Beauty:), the laptop he showed made each and every one here jealous.
Mr Ratan Tata - Chairman Tata Group - He was here for a CEO Lecture wherein he shared his experience and illuminated the path to success for us. He was very motivating and praised the success Great Lakes had been able to achieve in such a small time. He also extended full support towards Great Lakes, and for all those who are ignorant of this fact he is also Chairman Business Advisory Council, Great Lakes Chennai
Mr LakshmiNarayan - CEO Cognizant - He came when we were having fun during our outbound and he only added to the fun by sharing some wonderful thoughts. He told about his expereinces before CTS and how he was able to reach the stage where he is now.
Such wonderful, humble people with such wonderful thoughts have only added to the learnings@ Great Lakes.

With term 3 almost over, we have had loads of prof's from across the globe coming and sharing their knowledge with us in the past few weeks.
Prof Narendar Rao was here to teach us Corporate Finance. He is from NorthEastern University and is also a visiting faculty for ISB Hyderabad. He has strong hold on knowledge about the subject and also on communicating his thoughts but the best part was the motivation quotes that he used to present right at the beginning of every class. He also showed us some really very nice video clips. Just before leaving he showed a lot of attachement with Great Lakers and had a photo shoot with all of us. A very nice human being and a great Knowldge Creator.
Prof Vaidy Jayaram, was here to teach us Operations Management. He is currently associated(full time) with University of Miami. I must say he is a great entertainer, he runs in the class, he speaks in various tones and he just doesnt allow you to sleep:). Amazing prof, who took all the pains of teaching each and every step in the class and made sure that all of us got it then and there itself. He carries loads of knoweldge with himself, B.S, M.S, MBA and Ph.D and specialises in closed loop supply chain management and distribution and logistics. For more about him pls. check http://www2.bus.miami.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task;=view&id;=518&Itemid;=664
Optimization Research (Techniques) is being taught by Prof TAS Vijayraghavan. He is a full time prof from XLRI Jamshedpur and specialises in Information Systems and Operations Management. Though the subject hasnt been completed but he has already impressed all of us with the his ability to transfer the knowledge. He has done fellowship from IIM Bangalore. Great Lakes wishes all of you a very proud INDEPENDENCE DAY

Abhijeet Bhaduri - The Man behind the success of "Mediocre But Arrogant", was at Great Lakes for a Guest Lecture today. We have had some of the best speakers in the past including T T Durai and others, and this guy was by no means lesser than any of those, and made sure that by the time he finished his session, we had cramps after laughing like crazy.
A Graduate of XLRI Jamshedpur, he is presently Director HR at Frito Lays(Pepsi co. Division). He read a few excerpts from his book and enacted alongside, and his expressions and voice modulation was a treat to watch. He also made sure that we learnt something out of one of the most funniest guest lectures, and shared some of his experiences with us.
All in all, this was one of the most enriching Guest Lectures in last 4 months of my stay at Great Lakes, and am sure he has few more fans even before reading his book. Most of us carry his personally autographed book, and reading the same stands at highest priority as far as i am concerned:)-

Most of us got our money worth when we had an opportunity of having Mr Abhijeet Bhaduri with us last week. But not many would have thought theres something equally entertaining and insightful coming up this week.
Today we had the privileg of having Mr Ravindran, Global Head HR Covansys, at Great Lakes. His first step in the seminar hall, got most of us interested. He was charming, and expressed himself in one the most wonderful ways. He didnt tell us stories of how to manage people and bla bla, but touched based with something new and something which he wanted to develop in near future. He shared his vision of innovation and freedom that he want to bring in his organization and corporate culture.
Very expressive, he shared his thoughts in the most humorous ways, using some hindi and funny ones in between to make it more interesting.
The trend seems to be catching at Great Lakes, and we have been lucky to have some of the best speakers and knoweldge creators at Great Lakes.
Folks!
Check out the "Gyan from gurus coloumn" on Great Lakes official blog.

The ball is rolling ever since we had Mr Abhijeet Bhaduri at our campus, and every week we are getting more and more knowledge "kicks":).
We were priveleged to have Dr. Inderpreet Thakural, Director - Marketing and Strategy - IBM at our campus. Though the visit was a short one, only for an hour, but it was an enthralling one!. He talked about innovation, the transformations brought about in IBM in last few years, and about Strategy making. The talk was insightful and an enriching one. He then answered the Questions raised by Great Lakers!
All in all, it was yet another day where we learnt from the best in business..These sessions are now becoming the most awaited ones amongst people here! Great Job Colloquium
This does not include the recent visit of Mr Inderpreet Thakural, Director IBM and Mr Ravidran, Global Head HR at Covansys. To know more about the guest lecturers visiting Great Lakes visit: http://www.glakes.org/guest-lectures.htm

The crusade is almost mid way, and crusaders are enlightened with tremendous knoweldge transferred by some of the best in the profession. Some of the Profs we have had in last two terms are:-
Mr Amitava Ghosh - Marketing Research
He makes us learn, he makes us laugh, he makes us read cases like any other profs would, but then which prof would make you play virtual volley ball in class to wake you up, which prof would crack jokes out of the blue, which prof would happily point at you and tell you Madam, Wake up!. Thats Mr Ghosh, his way to transfer knoweldge is different from others and he makes sure the lectures are not lectures but funny discussions!
Mr Bharath - Human Resource Management, Chairman Aparajitha Group
Most would be forced to believe that he must have done some courses in HR, but then mentioned is his brief profile
1st Rank holder(All India) ACA, ICWA, and FCA. Specialization in Corporate Finance, now then what is he doing here teaching HRM. Mr Bharath, is equally equipped with fundamentals of HR and has also done specialization in personnel management and human resources.
As most of profs here set their own high standards, Mr Bharath did exaclty the same. He entered with a Dairy Milk chocolate for every student (how i wish every one could do that). He brought about a new way to communicate thoughts, sharing Red, Yellow, Green and White Cards. He made us wear Name tags in his classes. He brought about a new concept of moment of truth from the lecture, and in just 2 classes he has changed lots of perceptions about HR. Great Communicator
Prof Latha - Human Re-engineering
She is teaching Human Re-engineering and hence brings in lots of experience and knoweldge about human behavior along with her. She is one of those who practices what she preaches. In last few classes she has made us think about ourselves and seems like one of those people who people who will transfer lots of thoughts, and leave on us to learn from them. Amazing communicator and a very nice teacher.
Prof Lalitha - Business Communication
Ask any Great Laker (Male), which lecture has been the best in the last 4 months, and the unanimous reply would be Prof Lalithas classes. Prof Lalitha is a free lancer and takes Business Communication Classes at various B Schools like ISB Hyderabad etc and in various corporate houses. She was just amazing, one of the best speaker i have met till date. She has the ability to keep most of us awake for 2 complete hours. We had loads of fun discussing on various issues and the last few mins of every class was great with each one of us coming forward and speakig about himselves/heselves for a few mins.
Before we go for our Fall Projects we have a few more people coming to teach us, lets see what they bring to the table. Till date the experience is getting better and better day by day

Chicago, Oct 22 (IANS) Former US president Jimmy Carter will visit Malavli village near Lonavala in Maharashtra to take part in a project that involves building houses with local families in need.
The event will be held from Oct 30 to Nov 3, Karen Haycox, development director of Habitat for Humanity International, told IANS.
The Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP) brings together thousands of volunteers from India and abroad to build houses. Typically, low-income families participate in the construction of the houses they are eventually allotted.
'We at Habitat believe in giving a hand up, not a hand out,' Haycox said.
A total of 100 houses are to be built. The houses would be 360 square feet semi detached, with a living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom and verandah.
Carter's visit to India, Haycox said, would primarily serve two objectives: raising awareness of Habitat's projects in India, and allaying misconceptions that the organisation was engaged in converting people to Christianity.
'The proof of the pudding is in the eating,' said Bala Balachandran, professor at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. 'Most people who have been allotted the houses in India have been non-Christians.'
Balachandran has been volunteering his time with Habitat India for years. Balachandran, who has also founded the Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai, will be travelling to India for Carter's visit.
'We could do so much more in India if there was a greater awareness of Habitat,' said Balachandran.
Acknowledging concerns about improper use of funds, Balachandran said 25 students and faculty of the Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai would oversee the use of the funds.
