Hi Iris

Spoke t a few guys at G lakes...accomodation in most cases are unfurnished....but was informed that the Seniors are preparing a list of stuff that they wud like to dispose which we can pick up if it suits our needs...

Had been to G lakes yesterday and spoke to a few of the students from the current batch...The collage is located in a very serene area in Saidapet...i thought there might be a lot of noise and traffic but Srinigar colony..the are where the college is located is a residential area and hence very quiet and peaceful...liked the place...another +ve that makes me feel im doing the right thing by taking up the offer...

Cheers

We are preparing a list of all accommodations where our current batch mates are putting up .....most which are around college only so no need 2 bother about dist. from college etc.
Cheers

Hi,

Could you please tell me how many of the current batch actually commute from their homes in chennai?

Is it too much of disadvantage if i stay with my parents? will i be missing something? As it is i understand that ppl would be going to their flats only to sleep 😃 isn't this true?

quite a few did it in my batch..but that was 2 years back. i had my house 6 kms from the college but still lived in a flat nearby and lemme tell yaa.. though i spent mebbe 60k extra ( house rentals did not hit the roof then )it was worth it.. had a ball !! but then it was dominated more by chennaites , but now with 80 % being non chennaites i am sure the whole srinagar colony would be brimming with great lakers. in short it would look like a bschool with residential facilities sans the playgrounds and other paraphernalia like swimming pools, tennis courts etc. but yeah life starts only after 9 PM and trsut me you are going to have fun. worth the investment.

I dont think thts gonna be an issue. u can certainly put up with ur parents and still be a part of action in college. There r quite a few localites in our batch who do tht....

Some more details about Life @ Great Lakes required :-

1. Heard that lunch is being provided by intitute.
Is it charged or on the house ?
What are the options available in terms of other meals ?

2. How is the water scarcity in the localities around GL ?

3. What are the clubs/associations/commitees that are present ?

Hi UnkindMonk, On a lighter note, gLakes takes in 165 students every year. Why are there only 164 in yours...:-)

Hi there,

1) Its included in ur fees but on day 2 day basis u tend 2 forget that and it seems as if its on the house! ;-)
Other options are restaurants near by......

2) Its nt such a big issue, water scarcity is manageable...

3) We have loads of Committees right from Branding, Placement, Admission and many more. In ur first week u guys will get introduced to all of this.....wait till then dude

Cheers

I have also got a call from GL and have booked a room(3 bhk), near the college. the discussions are in progress and the rent will be around 2.5k-3k.

I am looking for room partners...guys please mail me at [email protected]/[email protected], if you are intrested.

Yesterday we celebrated HOLI in style at campus. There were many issues regarding the same but we were able to iron them out in time and what happened yesterday was an amazing celebration of festival of Colours!

Yours truly was spear heading the move and was glad the way it turned out. While Chennai is definitely not the place to be at the time of HOLI but thankfully our batch has been able to create a precedence which we hope the upcoming batch will continue. Not that our previous batches did nt celebrate it bt v increased the magnitude big time.

Btw few of new batch students unexpectedly turned up and became witness 2 the madness. With clothes torn and drenched in colours i am not sure wht impression they carried of us;-) However who cares abt impressions in HOLI !!!!!

Hope u puys had a ball too....

Cheers

Yes its true that HR and Strategy is now only going to offered as minor and hence
kindly take an informed decision.

U r welcome to take any decision and i wish all the luck for ur future endeavors

Cheers

Hi unkindmonk,
Doing great job man....
I have one query(might not suit to nature of this thread, but stiill.......):-
I am thinking of doing major in IT and minor in finance.
I had heard this time there is no it as major but operations is there...
So wht are the options available in operations,I mean if I choose subjects carefully in operations, then will it be equivalent to IT as major or not.
Thnx in advance

Great Lakes site says that following are the electives under 'Operations and Technology'
+++-+++-+++
Knowledge Systems
Managing Global Sourcing of IT & IT enabled Services
Logistics & SCM
IT & Strategy
Lean Manufacturing & Process Management
Simulation modelling
Supply Chain modelling and Analysis
Total Quality Management
Technology Management
Project Management
Strategic Sourcing & Corporate Quality
Software Project Management
+++-+++-+++

It seem to be fusion of Operations and IT...

Seniors could you please put some light.

Firstly IT is nt a major here......its either Marketing, Finance or Operations

Yes many ppl were able 2 switch but finance is picking up here and although getting in2 BFSI vertical is easy in IT , if ur looking for Hot profiles like Investment banking or equity analyst then u need 2 be very focussed.

Let me point out that the more u guys r clear abt wht majors and wht post MBA career ur looking at, the more closer u get in achieving that.Take out time to figure out wht you want to major in right from now and change it during the course only if u r very sure. Clarity frm now will help u guys to make the most of the entire year.....take this very seriously!

These are the subjects under the elective of Operation and Technology......its a fusion allright where u will find subjects which are IT as well manufacturing oriented.

To put it on record......GL dont offer any MAJORS in IT!!!!!
