Dean’s book club For all the book enthusiasts out there! We are extremely delighted to announce the launch of a book club at IFMR GSB, Krea University. This was introduced by the dean, Mr. Anantha Nageswaran, himself. The very idea of initiating a book club is to restore the habit of reading among students, which has become a forgotten art in today’s generation. The first book picked for discussion was- ‘Infinite Vision’, an incredible story of a towering personality, Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy, who went on to provide first-class eye care services for the underprivileged, by setting up the Aravind Eye Care hospital in Chennai. To add a personal touch to the discussion, the management had invited Dr. Aravind Srinivasan, CMO of Aravind Eyecare. He kept the audience captivated by sharing his profound experiences. Such episodes clearly bring in new perspectives that help develop oneself. PS: The next book picked for the book club discussion is ‘Accidental India’ by Shankkar Aiyar.
Congratulations! Aayushi for getting selected in RBS.

A guest lecture was conducted by External Relations Committee of IFMR GSB where we had Mr Akshay Gurnani, Co-founder and CEO of Schbang to talk about his entrepreneurial journey as well as sharing insights about effective marketing strategies.
In his speech he mentioned about ten key aspects for a budding entrepreneur. He started by telling us the importance of "knowing our why" to enter any particular industry, be it an innovation or solution to an existing problem. He talked about the "impostor syndrome” which all of us might have felt in some stage or the other of our life and talked about utilising our luck in a right way. In a dynamic and fast changing world today, it is important for the employees to be tech savvy and taking this idea ahead. Schbang follows an internal assessment of the employees so that they are not left behind and meet the existing standards. Further there is no demarcated area within the office floor to encourage openness and employee participation within the organisation.
He also spoke about having a mentor as we at a young age need the right advice, direction and support towards achieving our goals. He also mentioned about the attitude one must have towards our family and friends who are there to support us and the importance of being humble, given the success and fame gained over time.
Last but not the least he spoke about the brewing opportunities in digital marketing such as AI and machine learning, Data Science as well as Augmented and Virtual reality marketing.
The guest lecture was a great learning experience for me and my batch mates as he made us connect to his entrepreneurial ideas and view the future from a completely different lens.

MIND THE MARKET, FIND THE TARGET-2.0
Markaholic, the Marketing Committee of IFMR GSB, came up with an event "Mind the Market, Find the Target -2.0" to provide the students a much-needed break from their routine assignments and projects. The event comprised of three rounds:
· Ordinary Wizarding Level
· Marauders Mischief
· Quidditch Goal
These names how peculiar they may sound summed up the event which had huge participation from the students as many as 20 teams had registered for the event. Each team comprised of three members. The first round was the general quiz round in which there were questions related to various brands and identification of their logos. This was an elimination round in which only 12 teams qualified for the next round. The next round was a treasure hunt in which there were hints given to each team and they had to collect the products based on their given brands, in a stipulated time limit. This was the part of the event which involved the most fun as students were involved in searching for the products not only in the supply store of our campus but also borrowed stuff from their peers in their quest to move to the next round. In the final round we had four teams wherein the teams were given a product from the early 1990s and they had to improve or upgrade them in an order that they become commercially viable in today's market and were given five minutes to pitch their ideas with a presentation and also prepare a role-play not exceeding two minutes. The top two teams were awarded the winners based on their cumulative scores as it was a closely fought contest. The event was organized in a manner that improved the brand awareness of the students as well as helped them to gain an intellect of devising marketing strategies for products.

Human beings are the most valuable asset of any organization. This is one of the many things IFMR-GSB believes in. Hence the “Worker’s Day” is celebrated every year to acknowledge, reward and thank all the staff-workers on the campus. The social outreach committee called “Samarthan” at IFMR GSB, Krea University, organized the fun-filled event on the campus to celebrate the day and spend quality time with the staff on the campus.
The staff, students, volunteers, and faculty gathered to take part in the event where people actively participated in the cultural programs, games, dance, singing and other fun activities.
Occasions like this help in motivating the staff-workers and instill a sense of pride in the process of letting them reassure that they are important and integral part of the college family. It nurtures the MBA students towards being socially more responsible and better human beings in life while stimulating their Emotional Quotient (EQ), considered a key element in professional lives.
It is an opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude towards them for their hard work and determination. Management acknowledges the contribution and also offers assistance and support they maybe need for their families and children. We, students, do our bit and let them know that students and faculty members are available if they seek any help to pursue any areas of self-development or if their kids may need any help in their studies.
Many of them come to the campus early and sometimes stay late as their work may demand; hence it feels great to contribute something from our end as these are the people who work tirelessly to keep our college function efficiently. I was fortunate to be a part of this occasion organized by Samarthan and personally, consider this as one of my most valuable and inspiring experiences.
