All second year students have to appear in one more exam starting March 11th 2013. But these exams are way different from any other exams in which we have appeared and these are final end term exams of final trimester of most probably the final academic degree of my life.Though we got accustomed with these exams, we have somehow managed to go Alibaugh and Kashid beach nearby Mumbai with @interceptor16 , Ritwik and some PGDM guyz. Most probably, this is our last trip together. I will surely going to miss you people. @rps4ever Bhai, Spanish ka kya scence hai LOL !!
Ohh...finally posting at this page after long time... @SHIVAMUIET, ur last line has forced me to comment. I have only one answer for Spanish..."Beta ab hamse na ho paye"...

Okaie this is coming a day late but it truly deserves a mention. An amazing women's day celebration not just in SIMSR, but entire Somaiya Vidyavihar.

Superb street play by students of S K Somaiya College, taekwondo performance , an entire girls team yoga and aerobics performance .
All concluded by awards for women achievers on campus.
Felt so proud to see the entire Somaiya Vidyavihar family celebrating the spirit of womanhood.

So then it's almost all over today for we second years. It's been a wonderful two year journey nevertheless. For someone who's been following this thread for two years, it's a pain to realize that we wouldn't be a part of it anymore! Sights of friends taking photographs all around the campus and planning for their last trips together are not uncommon.. Our life @ SIMSR is drawing to a close. But not before some hard ing with some good friends whom this wonderful campus gave us!

hello people!

first of all, thank you so much for giving such an intersting insight to life @ SIMSR.. i am aspirant and have got a call from the institute.. i just wanted to know all the committees & clubs that there are in the college? if any of you guys here can help.. TIA :)

p.s: please tag me in the reply :)

what is the interview procedure? Is there a gd?

Just visited KJ 2013-2015 admission thread and it made me nostalgic.

I still remember that date (April 13 2011) when i appeared for KJ GD/PI in IIFT center and i definitely count this date in major life events.

I know that things have changed in last two years and i am writing this post as an proud alumnus of KJ Somaiya today.

If someone ask me about the best period of my life, i will certainly quote the time that i have spent in this institute with best people like @rps4ever , interceptor16, goelvaibhavgoel and others.

It has been 7 days since our convocation and i have started missing life@SIMSR and people around.

I will start a new journey from Mumbai itself from May 6th 2013.

No more HBR cases, No more group assignments and presentations but the memories and learning's will remain for life !!

I am sure that the rigor of PGDM-IB will increase in future. mg

Thank you SIMSR for everything !! 😃

K.J.Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR)

Woww.. Feels so good now to be writing here as a SIMSRite rather than an aspirant..

I have taken PGDM-IB and it's one of the best International Business courses in India under the tremendous support from our esteemed Program coordinator.

17th June... The day when I packed my bags and entered a completely new world called KJ SOMAIYA aka SIMSR.. And today marks the day when I have completed exactly 1 month here. Trust me, it's been an amazing experience so far...

Let me start off by describing the magnificent lush green campus. A huge 60 acre campus centrally located in Mumbai. Nowhere in Mumbai can we find anything of this sort. Hostels are also pretty decent.

Thanks to all the ice breaking events in this month organized by our faculty, seniors have really helped us get along so well that we feel we are a family now.

Our faculty also is amazing. They are highly professional and experienced. Most of them come with a rich industry exposure.

A special mention of our seniors who have helped us a lot during our short stint here at SIMSR. I am sure all my batch mates who had joined this year would agree to this. J

Lots going around nowadays. Everyone is busy in committee selection processes. Feeling like the world of MBA has just begun..

Signing off for now… Will keep posting here regularly.. 😁

It's already been 3 weeks but still don't know how the days have passed by. I can still sense the environment of the Counseling day in Mumbai. Have come from a long distance just to get a seat in SIMSR, with a four digit merit rank and almost with nil confidence. To my surprise, my luck favored me and I got through PG-S.now i can proudly say that I am a part of the SIMSR family.

Entering into the campus I could sense the ample opportunities waiting for me.

Then my new life began. Day 1 started with inauguration where we could get to know about the course Structure, faculty, facilities, and processes and last but not the least - rules and regulations. From Day 2 we started with Induction Program where the classes seemed to be quite tiring. The best part was to get to know about classmates, meeting them at amphi at night, and having a blast. Then shock came from seniors about the GPR thing. All the students took it seriously and got involved in the process. Finally on the deadline day we realized that it was a prank to make all the juniors BAKRAS. Then in the evening we had a dj night organized by seniors.

Then came most awaited event “ALL IZZ WELL” where students from all the branches were actively involved and participated for 3 days skipping sleep and food. Then when the results came, all our hard work paid off and FS won among its competitors. Then came celebration time and by the time we came out from partying mood we were bombarded with Committee Presentations and now interviews for committees are going on….. guess mba life has begun already……..!!!👍

Isn't it surprising how life can change so suddenly and drastically? This was the thought that crossed my mind when I got the news of my admission in the PGDM-FS course of SIMSR. Few months back a person whose life had no proper direction was now into one of the best B-schools in the country…My hard work had finally paid off!👍

When I entered into the SIMSR campus for the first time, I knew I was going to start a new life which would take me places but on the other hand I was also skeptical about leaving my Home and shifting to the Hostel. But VOILA! Here I am keeping all those thoughts aside, LIVING MY DREAM!

I entered into the course at a point where everyone else knew each other. I thought to myself 'Will I really be able to fit myself in?'However as days passed I realized making a place for yourself isn't that difficult. SIMSR endears everyone!

I've hardly had the time to think about how life in SIMSR exactly is…All that I know is that it's all about Spontaneity, Confidence, Adventure, Hard work, Fun and lots of PRANKS!!!! Being a late entrant I was lucky enough to skip the prank which our seniors played on us…PHEW! Then came ALL IS WELL…the ice breaking fest/competition which helped me in making many good friends and the cherry on the cake was that FS won it by beating its competitors…yayy!!😁

SIMSR provides ample opportunities to satisfy one's craving for learning through various committees, clubs and societies apart from academics. Lush green campus, Lovely group of friends, ever supportive seniors, proficient faculty and a perfect blend of studies and fun…What else does one want to prosper in LIFE??

It's gonna be 1 month today since I joined SIMSR so I think this will be the best time for me to write about Life@SIMSR. Being a localite I was sceptical about shifting to the hostel(never stayed away from home). But the seniors convinced me that this is one experience which I will never forget, and they were right!!! Starting from my roommates to my hostel floor mates, I cannot think of better girls to stay with. Staying up late every night isnt a bother anymore, because of them. Assignments, food , gossip everything is shared here. Even the crammed room seems good🍻. College started with a 2 week induction and then the real fun started. The seniors are approachable, helpful and awsome!! When your first interaction with senior batch begins with a prank you know you are in the right place to study as well as have fun. Making us study Kotler in 3 days and writing essays till 3 in morning!! Then came ALL IZZ WELL!! An inter collegiate event fought between classes. Thogh my class lost, the bond that we formed in those 5 days....working together till 3 in amphi, helping each other in every way....are memories which are unforgettable. This also gave me my new nick name 'maggi'. Now its committee selection time and our interviews run till 9pm. Its true you dont get time to breathe here but then you dont wanna stop even for a minute. Looking forward to two years of packed schedule and lots of late night parties!!!!SIMSR👏👍

The eternal wait is over and I have stepped into the life called-MBA. Curious and mystified earlier, my inquisitiveness is getting done away with and now entirely new challenges have begun to creep in. Here I am in one of the most prestigious b-school in India: K J Somaiya, SIMSR as it famously known as. Only a month has passed and a plethora of events has already taken place. The beginning has been magnificent, sowing the seed for an even more eventful future.

To begin with, SIMSR is built against an excellent backdrop of lush and lively nature. It boasts of amazing infrastructure-Classes, Hostel, Playground, and Amphitheatre. The best part of the whole SIMSR is our faculties & seniors.

Soon after entering the college, a series of ice-breaking sessions started to flood in irrespective of time of the day. It was fun to dance, act, and do all the crazy stuffs with seniors at 4 am.

As if this was not enough, one of the most exciting events started- BAKRA event. The seniors made us read entire Kotler in 3 days; a subsequent test would determine our candidature in Exclusive committees and a lucrative offer of summer internship France. Sleepless nights followed and on the final day, we were all PUNKED.

ALL IZZ WELL: Inter class cultural completion was the epitome of ice-breaking sessions. Every individual pitched in, performed to their fullest. 3 days of intense rivalry (cultural) and talent show startled the seniors. We gelled even more.

Commitees: The fight has started again among 350 juniors to get into one of the exclusive committees. Seniors are having a torturous time selecting the best of the lot and juniors are relentless in their effort to prove themselves.

At Last, the sleepless nights and a slumberous class constitutes an interesting duo.

Once upon a time in a weary midnight, camouflaged by the warmth I began to slowly lapse into the calm wrapping of sleep, until ….Peeeeeeeep Peeeeeeeeeeeeeep…
Over a farcical volume of handouts, assignments and not to mention the unforgettable “Kotler”, I looked for the alarm to kill its cacophony.
Inner voice inside me said – Welcome to the life@SIMSR !!
What's so special about it anyway? I really had no idea! Grabbing a quick breakfast, I rushed to my class of all serious looking faces clocked up on their “pink newspaper” analyzing the current business scenario.
Classes are always a little more than series of lectures and the C.E.O guest speakers. The list of committee selections are out and race against the deadlines hereon is formally announced. A fervid discussion on the widening current account deficit at the mess table to the midnight get together at the Amphi Theater, it really is quite amazing!
No, no, no. That's only half the story!
In between the available time, you would end up scanning steering strategies of the corporate big guns. (And you thought it is all about fun and no work?!) We shall not bunk classes (thanks to the air conditioned lecture halls!), we shall adulate quizzes (“content development” as we call it!), and we shall love the mundane presentations. But even within those individual categories you have no time to slack off.
As the day is overpowered by dusk I realize I am already developing into a manager, learning to manage friends, competition, expectations, negotiations with the deadlines and not to forget, your humble respect for original work!
Its time now to root the roots of adherence and as they say the next two years are going to be the best time of the life!

I rise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world.

I enter the halls of SIMSR..This life excites me..It keeps me on my toes..This is what I dreamt of..This is the best it could be..every day here is a life in itself..The mornings are winters, a struggle to get out of the comforts of my bed..The lush green campus gives an impression of spring..The evenings are monsoons and the night brings with it the soothing summers.

This life delivers..It makes no exception..It gives me strength..It treats a nobody like me with respect..It gives me an identity..It gives me a standing in the world.

This life has given me knowledge that is incomparable(faculty), it gives me confidence (presentations), it even caters to my extra curricular needs (ALL IS WELL). This life completes me.

Here the hours are long but the days are short.:P

Joining SIMSR Has been one of the best decisions of my life. Nowhere in the world would I have come in contact with such a wide variety of people at a single place. I find myself learning, innovating and multitasking each day. And one day it will give me just the right amount of push, that i need to spread my wings and fly.👼👼👼👼👼👼

16th June evening, i landed in Mumbai brimming with excitement thinking about the 2 upcoming years ahead of me and what it would offer. As i stepped out of the airport I was welcomed by the Mumbai rains which had been pouring down continuously for 2 days. Completely drenched I arrived at the SIMSR campus and the first word which I uttered was WOW. The campus is one of the best I've seen and reminded me of my engineering days as I had not expected a campus so big and with all necessary facilities. From the moment I stepped on the campus there has not never ever been a dull moment in my life.

The first two weeks went by pretty quick as there was an Induction program and also meeting a lot of new people, a lot of ice breaking to be done with the awesome crowd of SIMSR which includes a huge variety of students right from freshers to people with 5 years of Work experience.

Once the ice was broken among the juniors it was time to meet our very talented and loving seniors who suddenly appear in our class one day and announce about a rating called GPR and also that we have to read Kotler “Marketing Management” in 5 days. The first thought which struck my mind was 'You gotta be kidding me, If I finish it in a year I would treat myself'. Following this we would get a task from the seniors every night which had to be submitted the next day morning. Spending sleepless nights we managed to finish all the tasks and then arrived the day, the 'D' day where we would be tested on our vast knowledge about “Marketing Management” or so we thought.

The whole batch was made to sit in the auditorium with the seniors on stage looking at us in a way a Lion looks at his prey. After a lot of Taunting that we have not been serious and that based on our psychometric test 30 percent of us are serial killers (quite believable based on the sleepless nights we spent), began the Kotler test. First question on the screen for Rs 1000 ' Is kotler alive?' . The whole auditorium bursts out laughing. The seniors are even more pissed off now . Following questions 'How many wives does kotler have?', 'Kotler's favourite rock band?'. As this is happening I wonder 'What the hell is going on here' and then after a countdown from 10 to 1 comes up a screen stating 'YOU'VE BEEN PUNKED!!'. That was one hilarious moment which I personally believe deserves to be on a TV show as well. One of the best pranks which has been successfully carried out. Kudos to the seniors to lighten our moods and provide one of the best and unexpected welcome to the college. *Bows Down*

This has been my experience in college till now and I am sure it is just gonna get better. Signing off. (Shall be back with more experiences)😁

Been a month now since i have ben to this best B school in the city of mumbai. And I proudly write this post as a SIMSRite and not an aspirant anymore...

17th June....that was the day when I started my 2 year journey with this college and i belive its gonna be a rocking 2 years of my life... Trust me, it's been an amazing experience so far as well...

To start with a 60 acre campus with lush green grass to add to it..This humangous campus consists of 5000 odd students in all...

At the end of it is our very own SIMSR..

My personal experience here has been just fabulous to say it all. Thanks to our student council, we had made ourselves a BAKRAin the Kotler incident. It was followed by an awesome DJ nite which just made us lose the fact that we had spent sleepless night the previous day.

AAL IZZ WELL....this was the most cherished event of my life...specially that we (PG-FS) won it was a perfect iceing on the cake...

Did everything that we could to come together and gelled along ourselves..To say the least the seniors have just been there at our side whenever we needed them and surely will whenever we will need them....

Life @ SIMSR has just began.....cheers..

Life @ SIMSR

Till 16th June 2013, Mumbai for me was all about Bollywood, rains and local trains. Mumbai now for me is SIMSR.

It's a different thing altogether when you start living at a place and a lot more different when you stay at hostel. No wonder it rained heavily the day I arrived at Bandra station!! Somehow problems arise wherever I am…Actual College days started with the inaugural function organized for us and the free lunch the same day(No lunch comes for free is SIMSR faculty's favourite phrase). The campus is huge as compared to the matchbox apartments and shops in Mumbai.

After the initial induction days of two weeks we had a test of three subjects. Vow! what a great start.. Somehow everybody managed, thanks to the faculty. During the induction, we were informed by our seniors that the selection procedure of all the committees is a very rigorous procedure. Then came the concept of Grade Point Rating (GPR) whose score decides which committee we go to and we were given the Philin Kotler book on Marketing Management.. We were told by seniors to read KOTLER many times but none of them realized why mails are sent to us that often 😉 😉 😛

Then on the day when GPR was to be evaluated. All juniors were called by the seniors with their formals on them at the red auditorium. A test about Kotler, yes the man who co-authored the book and the book. And we were made bakras in SIMSR by our seniors. The same day post bakra we had DJ night. J #Lesson : Understand the unsaid

After that started, All Iss Well(Official fun-filled/ cultural event of the college for juniors).… Those sleepless nights were worth it. It brought the whole class together . Those posters, late night dinners, sketch pens color pens, pain brushes, paints will always hold place in my heard. Of the six teams each gave their best shot!!

Looking forward to some more Pandora boxes opening up @SIMSR..

HOW do I start is the question going on in my head giving me a proof that it works sometimes, if not for answers then atleast for questions...what am I writing, no no wait, it should be interesting ahead. It's so late in the night and I have set myself to write my 1 month journey in SIMSR. Actually I did my Junior College from K.J Somaiya itself and I absolutely loved the campus. The most important reason why I wanted to do M.B.A from Somaiya is because I know it from my experience that I learnt a lot in my junior college and the teaching was very good...(maha jhooth)..Attendance was never considered in junior college and I had a lot of fun because of that(participated a lot in extra-curriculars, etc), so wished the same in M.B.A as well, but O Boy! M.B.A is a different ball game altogether, deadline after deadline to meet is making me feel I am going to meet my dead-line soon(read death). 1 never to forget experience meanwhile was the Grade Point Evaluation(GPR),[fancy words do work] by our seniors. Everyone prepared seriously for that going through entire Kotler which we were asked to read(though no one would agree they put efforts seriously as it would make them fall under the 'chatur' bracket). Shocker came in when the seniors very casually said that they made a 'Bakra' of us, April fool in the month of July!!Dear Lord, most juniors did not like it but put on a fake smile only to show how sporty they are to their seniors. After that the serious 'bhaag' to get into some committee or another, May this dedication continue!Amen....Finally a word on pedagogy at simsr, it's great to say the least, most(if not all) professors are real good ones and the buttering can go on but I would stop, but honestly speaking, they are indeed very good to keep it sas(short and simple) and yes, the seniors, they are idiots, no no, I mean Idiot like Aamir Khan of 3 Idiots..:) All in all, enjoyed till now, hope it continues for the remaining 1 year and 11 months. Simsr Rocks!!(y)👏

Hello everyone,

Here I am on the other side where I don't have to ask queries and wait for replies. What an eventful first month it has been. The amount of fun, learning, interaction and ice breaking sessions have been a revelation.

Here is a glimpse of my journey so far in this B-School of Mumbai (KJ Somaiya aka SIMSR) located in Vidyavihar. From the rains to the sleepless nights in the hostel everything makes me realize the fast paced life of Mumbai. Journey in SIMSR started with an induction program where an engineer gently placed his baby toes in the grueling world of management. Being a fresher it was a great experience to interact with people from diverse industry backgrounds.

Finally those 15 days of Induction rolled away and there came the seniors to make us realize what life at SIMSR is all about. It all started with a spoof event where we were given a task to read a 700+ pages book in just 3 days all in the name of committee selection procedure, only to be scrapped and made a fool of in the end. This was topped with a small party given by seniors which bridged the gap. Then came the major ice breaking event 'All izz Well' where all divisions of junior batches were pitched against each other. Through this activity which spanned over 3 days, we got to know our classmates in the best possible way. All this in the midst of assignment submissions ensured that we won't get our daily dose of sleep. Now in the ongoing process of committee selections, rest and sleep takes a backseat. The faculty and the infrastructure has been great and keeping us busy and on our toes.

The next 2 years are bound to be interesting and mystifying in every aspect.

Life hasn't turned as much as it has since this month long period , after I joined SIMSR. Having worked for 4 yrs and then joining a college was something that filled my thoughts with skepticism. But all my misgivings about my post grad education turned upside turn and what has commenced is the beginning of a new and vivid college life again. I could have never imagined what lay in store for me at SIMSR!!

Admission to the college coincided with torrential rains deluging Mumbai . I have stayed in Mumbai for 2 years and have developed a liking for the monsoon here . The roads in campus got water-washed, campus turned green and amidst of all, I shifted from a flat and sneaked to a hostel room here.

Inauguration function made way to an induction program, which spanned for 2 weeks. The induction days ended with seniors pouring in, and though I had interacted with a few of them on social media, I actually got a chance to meet them.

Then came the blooper of prank splashed!! The juniors were asked to drill through a well known Marketing book in next 5 days, if they wanted to participate in any of the college committees. Debunking the prank on the 5th day at college auditorium, seniors invited us to join them in what turned out as a long, wonderful night of Punk music played at college amphitheatre.

The following week saw a 3 day long stage performance by juniors in ice-breaking and cooling event ,aptly named ALL IZZ WELL .Regardless of who the winners were,it turned all students closer to their classmates . And by now our batch has begin to find itself intertwined in assignments and presentations , lectures of professors' and suggestions from seniors , less of sleep and more of gossip in class J , discussions and theories floating daily in the morning and ending with chit-chat at amphi-theatre in night .
