It has been more than three months since we have got a tag of ALUMNI from our alma mater but the feeling of SIMSRites is still there within us.
Ab background bas hua,ek saal ki reel khatam hui,now is the time for second reel.
Hey all,
My lyf at SIMSR-MMS started on 29th July. Yes, i missed my induction program on 25th as i was getting released from my company(Infosys) on 26th.
I was a lil skeptic as i was returning bak to college lyf after 2 years n was of a opinion dat i wud b surrounded with professional ppl again. But my thots wer proven wrng wen i gt 2 knw abt the induction programme, where my classmates had a good time with the seniors.
Since then, it has been a joyride. Guests lectures by eminent professionals from different sectors, icebreaking sessions with the junior(Impressions'13), committee presentations and selections, buddy project wherein we get to work with a senior; it has been work along with fun at SIMSR.
To add to all, the campus boasts of great sports facilities, which include Athletics grnd, cricket, football, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, badminton, etc, etc, etc.
The faculty are friendly. The education is case-studies oriented(even though its not mentioned in university syllabus), which helps to relate to real-life scenarios.
Since, i am not a hostel-lite, i dnt have much idea abt hostel facilities, but from what i have heard frm my classmate, the facilities are decent enuf and the mess services are good too.
To cut it short, the first month itself has given me glimpses of a fun-learning exposure lying ahead.
Living the dream.
Hectic yet fun, professional yet informal, fast paced yet comfortable, is how I would describe my experience at SIMSR. Right from the awe inspiring infrastructure to the down to earth seniors, at SIMSR I feel I am truly experiencing the golden years of my college life. My story at SIMSR started with an induction ceremony which in itself was a very memorable experience. The practical joke by the seniors in the ceremony set the tempo for what we could expect. The initial few weeks were absolutely chilled out, giving us time to acclimatize ourselves and socialize with our classmates. SIMSR has been full of surprises for me, one of them being Impressions! The theme was to make our impression on the seniors. The thrill of doing something absolutely different on the stage with unknown people was a great experience. One thing I have loved about SIMSR is the absolute dedication of the teachers. They are so motivated about teaching that the enthusiasm just rubs off on the class. Also, the caliber of students is very high and look-and-learn is something I have been doing from the very start. I now truly believe, once a SIMSR-ite, always a SIMSR-ite!!!๐

I don't know whether its fate or co-incidence but this is my 7th in Somaiya Vidyavihar campus. I know the campus in and out and I have always been inspired by the huge expanse of the campus and the facilities it provides. Things have improved so much since 2006 and the standards have been really set very high. It's been exactly a month since my first day in SIMSR and it has already had so many wonderful moments. The induction process which also included an ice breaking session gave a nice start to my MBA career. Unlike other MBA colleges where students are made to slog almost every day of the week, SIMSR offers a pretty relaxed environment with a really good faculty and equal amount of importance given to class participation, communication skills and overall development. Impressions, which was the first event for the juniors was a memorable experience with the juniors taking part actively in the event and making it an outright success. I got a chance to dance for the first time on stage and I really enjoyed it and surprisingly my team won the contest. ๐ In the past few days things have been a bit hectic with all the committee applications, presentations and stuff but still everything is an experience in itself. Every website may have its own rankings and ever person may have different views regarding colleges but I can only say that I am really happy to be a part of SIMSR and I hope I have an exciting 2 years ahead..๐
MY LIFE @ SIMSR ^_^,
K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research.. My new home.. I entered the college from the gate and BLINK!!! The first word that came to my mind โ AWESOME!!! Compared to the outside area, inside college gate it was a different world altogether. The infrastructure that SIMSR boasts of deserves that much credit.
My life at SIMSR started with Inauguration ceremony on 25th.. Dr. Ailawadi(Director) and Prof. Siva Kumar welcomed us with their respective speeches telling us about what to expect in the next two years to come and told us to stay on our toes to get the most out of our Masters Degree. Then, came a surprising Ice-breaking session by seniors. It was to show us that Management is not only about studies but it's learning with fun and creativity.. And trust me, they had lots of fun.. (Hamaari fati padi thi). I'll leave it at that. Secret should be kept within the walls..
Moving on, lectures started next day.. The faculty is full of prodigies in their respevtive areas.. Frankly speaking, faculty exceeded my expectations.. Classes are interactive and including lots of case studies..
Two weeks flew by like this and there it was. My first event at SIMSR โ IMPRESSIONS 2013. It's the event where we juniors impress the seniors by doing various activities (Mad ads, spoofs, dance, fashion shows, etc). Groups were formed randomly between all the first years and task was randomly assigned to each group with certain topic and group had to perform the task on stage. Most of the juniors performed. Everyone got claps and whistles they deserved.. โImpressionsโ was followed by Buddy Assignment. A buddy senior is assigned to junior who will give junior a task; nothing difficult but something creative, and in return, junior earns his fresher and a mentor for a year.. Pretty good trade.. Isn't it??๐
And that's how my first month at SIMSR went by and now, new bells have started ringing.. ๐ Committees are coming and there is loads of competition for each one of them.. So, I have to get back to work.. Ciao...๐
On 25th July, my dream of doing MBA from SIMSR came true. What started as a simple orientation of MMS course ended with a practical joke and a warm ice breaking session with seniors. Most of the first week was spent in socializing with our new classmates and acclimatizing to the sheer size of somaiya campus. The campus, along with its impressive infrastructure, had some cool places to hang out including the amphitheater and maggi house. The dedication and motivation of professors itself was inspiring. Their case study based approach is designed to make us think realistically and make us understand what management is actually all about. The seniors were always there to guide us and helped us break ice with our classmates through an event called Impressions. It consisted of forming random groups with our batchmates and performing on stage. I must admit that although I was terrified of going out on stage, the response and support we received just blew away my fears. A buddy project was organized to help us to get acquainted with seniors in our preferred field of specialization. The seniors also presented about several committees working within the college which themselves were the gateway to plethora of opportunities. If this is just one month at SIMSR, I can't wait to see what the next two years have in store for me.
It feels good to write as a SIMSRite rather than an aspirant. Glad that all my efforts and hard work have borne fruit. After admissions, came 25th July - the inauguration ceremony day. The ceremony was organized at Red Auditorium of SIMSR( Yes.. it is all red.. Gives you a feel of Cinemax ๐). After few seconds entering the auditorium the awkwardness went away and I found myself indulged in talking with other SIMSRites.
It all started with speeches given by director and course coordinator followed by delicious lunch. Post lunch we were told to gather in auditorium for some placement related activity. We were informed that there will be cluster process in placements from this year and accordingly aptitude test was taken and some students were called for GD on the stage (I was one of themโฆand weird topic was given
The lectures started from the very next day and with that the process of knowing batch mates also began. Our class has a mix of Engineers, B.Com., B.A., BMS graduates .. combination of freshers and work experienced, localites and hostelites from different parts of India. The peculiarity of MMS course is majority of Gujjus in batch (obvious because of GLMS quota). Here we have so many committees to inculcate our interest ranging from sports, cultural, finance, marketing, social work, women development cell, movie club and lot more.
The faculty has in depth knowledge of the domain with industry experience. Professors relate theoretical concepts with live examples from industry. Also most of them follow case study analysis method and group activities making it fun learning. . Most of the professors are helpful and approachable. Now it is one month at SIMSR and we have assignments, presentations lined up.. The best part (at least for the 1st semester) is no lectures on weekends.. so that we get free time in which we can participate in extracurricular activities like inter B-school case study, ad making competitions.
The Somaiya Vidyavihar campus with lush green grass is itself a place to hangout. Many canteens are there inside the campus- Govinda's canteen in Chanakya building being famous for Chinese and the old canteen for juices and franky. Also have Maggi House in the campus where we have Garam garam maggi with cold coffee ๐
The major event for us till now was โImpressionsโ- true ice breaking session- wherein we juniors were divided in random groups and assigned an activity like dance, fashion show, spoof or mad ad. Practicing for our activities was very much fun and we got a chance to interact with our classmates. It was an event where we entertained our seniors but in turn we juniors enjoyed a lot..!! ๐
And our seniorsโฆ they are way too helpful.. kudos to all!!!
It is just a month and I have already started loving life@SIMSR. SIMSR offers a lot and everyday is very much special here..๐
Hey all
2 months PHEW!!! This has been a really a sort but exciting roller coaster ride. From prank that started it all to ALL IS WELL, IMPRESSIONS, Freshers and now SPRIHA and ELAN-e-Yudh. Hoping for more new experiences in simmering SIMSR ๐
ANVESHAN'13 organised by Alumni Committee is round the corner guys..Saturday, 7th September will be a great opportunity for the current batches of SIMSR to interact with seniors who have just passed out. A "not be missed" event for all the current students. This interaction will not only help deciding specialisation but also give an insight about the responsibilities we need to take care just after joining an organisation. Looking forward to attend!!

What an exciting day of quizzing!!!!Kudos to the Marketing club of SIMSR:: Interface for successfully organizing Inquzzitive 13..Congratulations to all the winners..
Life@SIMSR โ This Fortnight
When do you say you love your college? I think it's when you get a mix of quality education and ample extracurricular activities both on platter from the college. After spending some two and a half months here in SIMSR I can proudly say that I didn't make mistake in choosing this college as my school for two years. An evidence of my above statements is conduction of a mix of events such as Elan-e-yudh, our Fresher's Party and Anveshan'13.
Sports too are essential for an MBA student; you learn team spirit, sportsmanship, confidence and a good stress bursting technique. The sports committee of the college organized Elan-E-Yudh, the annual inter-branch sports war, yes it was a sports war, both for the classes who won the games and the once who didn't. The week long sports event included various indoor and outdoor events such as TT, Chess, Football, Arm Wrestling, Squash, Basketball, Throw ball etc. The competition was against everyone with their own friends and their own seniors to choose the best out of best in each category. The fun filled Braganza ended with the prize distribution ceremony to boost student participation in such events.
Just after the Elan-E-Yudh, Fresher's Party (a said unsaid dream of every 1st year student) followed! Honestly the most awaited affair of SIMSR had come. Geared up with all the preparations, dressing up and everything people rocked the dance floors and enjoyed a lot. I had such a great time that evening and it makes you realize that in between all the assignment deadlines, seminars, competitions and the studies of course there is something called fun as well. It was a much needed break for all of us and great opportunity to get to know our seniors too. After the Monday evening celebrations, Mr. and Ms. Fresher's, Best Buddy Project (a formal, informal task assigned by the seniors to their respective juniors from the same class and with the same roll number) were selected by public poll and given prizes for the same. The evening ended with smiling faces!
A week after our Fresher's Party, the Alumni Committee of the college aka ALCOM organized Anveshan-2013: an annual interaction session with batch 2013 pass outs. Indeed the concept of bringing back the fresh pass outs and the new corporate world joiners was amazing. The super seniors felt and breathed the same air that they did some months back, the present graduating batch again felt like juniors with the presence of their seniors! Nostalgic it was; SIMSR did the magic. After the super seniors had greeted each other and our faculties, the actual mentorship session started. Giving us (batch 2013-15) useful insights about the industry, career perspectives, importance of participating in events and competitions, preparation for PIs, general knowledge, they guided us for everything.
So far this fortnight@SIMSR has been full of amazing experiences!!
Looking forward to the next here @SIMSRโฆ..
Life@SIMSR-Another Day
This morning I had mixed feelings, a happy and a sad one, the former because of the allotment of a faculty mentor to myself and the latter because of the end of Ganpati celebrations at our college. This mixed feeling eventually gives you a satisfaction that yes things are going good here @SIMSR.
To boost up the morale of students, to guide them for their MBA journey SIMSR has come with a unique concept. This concept of assigning a total of sixteen faculties to a different group of students in each class has been welcomed by all the students across SIMSR with open hands. The student faculty interaction session can be based upon any problem that the student is dealing with be it personal, placement, family or study related for that matter. The main purpose of this initiative is overall growth and development of the students; such initiatives have been implemented in some of the most eminent colleges across the world wiz Harvard, Wharton etc. The mentee-mentor relationship is inclusive of motivation and skill enhancement, constructive criticism and feedback as well.
After keeping its beloved Lord Ganesha for two and a half days, SIMSR finally bids good bye to him. Student volunteers from all classes along with the Student Council members had done all the pre and post Ganpati celebration preparations. For most of the fresh entrants, witnessing Mumbai Ganesha Chaturthi was for the first time. The students during these days celebrated the arrival and today the departure of their Lord Ganesha with zeal and enthusiasm and with the hope that they might get the opportunity to welcome him again in the next year.
So.. this was it from me in- today@SIMSR.
Keep PGing!!
hectic week finally coming to an end. phew!!!๐ But the week end approaches and am looking forward to it. loved the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. And so another week comes to a close in SIMSR...๐
Anveshan 2013 held on 7th Sept brought the super-seniors (2013 pass outs) back to the campus. They had come back to share their experiences of the corporate world so far, and also about their college experiences. It was all nostalgic for them, as they met their peers and the faculty members. Different classrooms were allocated for different streams, and also for combination of streams (like operations + finance). The super-seniors who studied/were working in the particular horizon gave us a brief idea about the college life, faculty, academics, summers, exams, competitions and events, final placements, etc. The session was very friendly with the seniors beginning with sharing their part, and then opening up to a question-answer session. The interactive session was for over 3 hours, so that students can get important insights of different streams.
The session held importance as it cleared doubts of the juniors as-in which stream to go for, and also understand the expected profiles thereby. In all, it was great to interacting with seniors who had โbeen there..done thatโ ๐
3 Months into SIMSR and I finally get time to put in words on pagalguy. The Excitement never ends here. Every week is packed with great surprises and innovative activities. Most of the B-School might talk about knowledge, but the kind of atmosphere we get in here is so amazing, friendly and yet competitive. Who would have thought working in a team here would teach us so much about various cultures, people, their habits and most importantly their experience about life.
Hey folks!! Long time ehh.. Well had end-term exams, hopefully from next tri-sem i'll continue writing during exams as well... learning @B-School :). So today i would be writing about a beautiful event held in our Campus Amphitheater on 4th October.. i know i am late this time but couldn't keep myself from writing about it ๐ - EVANTASTIC.
The show unleashed the latent talent of some gifted individuals who dazzled the audience with some breath taking performances. The enthralling performances included
-A traditional dance performance by the differently-abled students of NASEOH.
-A folk dance performance by Sunil Gujara from "India's got talent" who is hearing impaired.
-A musical play by the differently-abled employees of Eureka Forbes who gave the message of living life to the fullest.
-A dance presented by Employees of Eureka Forbes on their wheelchairs with great zeal and vigor.
-A National Anthem was recited by the hearing impaired using sign language.
-A fun Hip Hop dance performance by Sounds of Silence, an NGO with hearing impaired kids.
The audience gave them all standing ovations.
Mauj, the musical band of SIMSR, performed on beautiful songs and a group of SIMSR girls performed for the event. In all it was one successful event exactly when the exams were about to start.. Expect the unexpected, here @SIMSR.. me signing off for now.. Keep PGing!!
