The "Know your interest, choose your specialization" event by the PR and Media committee came to a close with the Supply Chain Management session today. A wide variety of topics such as certifications, internship experiences and live projects was discussed. There was active participation from the 2016-18 batch.

What Can One Do With an MBA in International Business?

International business degrees are often required due to increasing globalization and the growing number of businesses currently competing on the international stage. In addition to working within global companies that compete in international markets, graduates of MBA- IB programs can also find careers in marketing, finance, supply chain management and HR. The course is designed to help students develop cultural skills, business competencies and other skills pertaining to the global marketplace.

The Supply Chain Management batch at SIIB was privileged to have esteemed professional Mr. Manish Deoghare, Director (Global Procurement), BMC Software for an interactive guest lecture. Mr. Manish shared his experiences with the students bringing to light the importance of technology in businesses and how it can transform the downstream procure to pay process. He explained how negotiation and purchase on a virtual platform has enabled strategic benefits allowing companies and their suppliers to operate efficiently, enabling transparency in the process and faster processing.

Mr. Vidya Bhushan, Deputy General Manager of Bunge visited SIIB to deliver a lecture on commodity trading to the senior batch. In his session, he laid emphasis on mock trading to get acquainted with the market scenario. He encouraged the students to opt for summer training as they would be closer to the physical market, thus enhancing their learning opportunities. Mr. Bhushan also asked them to observe auctions to gauge how the market works. His mantra for the students: "Always have an open mind and a fresh perspective."

The students of SIIB had a very interactive session with Mr. Joel Pannikot, Head - Asia Pacific Strategy(Education), Bloomberg. He gave the students an insight into the benefits of Bloomberg in education and various career options available in marketing, finance, analytics, HR, logistics, policy making and many other streams. He emphasized the importance of quantitative data in any decision making process to stay competitive.

The season of conclaves at SIIB was kicked off today with the annual HR Conclave. The theme "Millennials:The generation game" really struck a chord with the students. Chief guest Mr. Deodutta Khurane, Group President, Yes bank focussed on how the current generation must learn to align their values with that of the organization while at the same time retain their individuality. The panel discussion that followed cleared quite a few questions regarding the HR practices and policies in today's organizations.



Soumya Ranjan who is currently associated with L&T Financials took a seminar on CSR for the students of Energy and Environment Batch. An active and engaging session followed where she touched upon necessity of CSR and its evolution for the predominant part of the first half of the lecture. She later proceeded to expand the session to the technical and legal aspects of CSR like its tax implication with special focus on article 35, 35AC, 35CCA among others, organisations of national importance, other acts of CSR etc. She also ensured all doubts the students had before the start of the session and those that followed were adequately addressed before the close of the session.

SIIB held its annual Supply Chain Management Conclave, Aarohan themed on “Sustainable Supply Chain”. The chief guest Padmashree Arun Firodia (Chairman, Kinetic Group) drew on his rich experience in the field to highlight the importance of sustainability in business and the scope for further improvements in the supply chain in order to make it more competitive and efficient. A live panel discussion on “The Impact of GST on Supply Chain in India” moderated by Mr.Vaibhav Nagarkar gave the audience a comprehensive idea of the GST from different perspectives. The panelists were Mr. Vijay Lahare (PU Head Heavy Engines, MHEL), Dr. Waman Parkhi (Partner, KPMG) and Mr. Sebin Thomas (Senior manager, Trent Hypermarket).

Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.

Independance Day at SIIB was celebrated with great  gusto. Flag hoisting was followed by a cultural extravaganza wherein both the faculty and the students actively participated. The need for patriotism and oneness on an everyday basis and not only on days of national importance was stressed upon. The ceremony  ended with singing of the National anthem and several patriotic songs. 

A workshop was held for the HR Batch of 2015 -  17 on the topic 'Role of Training in IT & non-IT Sectors.' Mr.  Prasad Kulkarni (Senior Manager - Training, Syntel), who has 17 years of  experience in the domain was the speaker for the session. He spoke  about training requirements, retention period of individuals, structure  of the Training and Development Department, Learning Management  Systems and the implementation of training programs. Mr. Kulkarni kept  the session interactive & ended the discussions with a case study  where the students had to design a training program, enabling them to  understand real world constraints & issues. 

The session proved to be an extremely informative one. 

 The SAP Live Business League event was conducted at SIIB on 23rd August 2016 by SAP in association with various sponsors. The event  was a huge success. The event saw participation from several teams comprising experts from various industry domains. Unlike other turn-based simulations used for business training, the League is based on ERPSim games by Baton Simulation and have participants use the system faster than in real-time. This requires them to make on the spot decisions regarding sales, pricing, product components,

marketing investments, cash management, production sequencing and more, all by using the reports and transactions found in SAP. All in all, it was a truly enriching experience for all.



 A workshop was held for the HR Batch of  2015 - 17 on the topic 'Functional Talent Management Frameworks.' Mr.  Amit Anand (Deputy General Manager - Learning & Leadership  Development, Cummins India Ltd.), who has 13 years of experience in the  domain was the speaker for the event. He spoke about the situation of  Learning & Development Organizations in India, their structure,  Instructional Systems Design, need for T & D at the workplace &  the various methods of assessment for the same. Mr. Anand kept the  session interactive & gave a lot of information regarding real-world  projects & scenarios in the specific field, as well as HR as a  whole.

The E-waste team, under KSHITIJ (ISR initiative of SIIB), introduced E-  Waste drive to create awareness about E-waste management. The ceremony  was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Asmita Chitnis (Director, SIIB),  Dr. Prakash Rao (Dy. Director, SIIB) and Mrs. Viraja Bhat (Mentor,  KSHITIJ Team).  E-waste Bins were kept in both the residential campuses  of Symbiosis Infotech Campus(Hinjewadi) under its E-waste Drive  initiative.
The initiative was conceptualised keeping in mind the  growing E-waste products due to booming consumption of electronics. As  we are located in the IT Hub of Pune, the need for coming up with such  an initiative was imperative.  

Does SIIB international business programme require students to abroad for some semesters during their MBA programme (US/China) as the global management programme of some other  schools ? 

(I dont want to go abroad during my MBA)

Also i would be thankful if someone could throw some light on the difference between global management programme ,international business and foreign trade schools (IIFT etc).
