Hi there, I also look forward to seeing u at SPJCM provided I get a call. However I was talking about UBS "of today". All I meant was :
1. UBS has a good brand name. 2. It will get u placed at a package of 5+ provided u r good enough. 3. It is very well reputed especially in HR. 4. It can and most probably will provide u a job by the time u complete ur MBA. 5. But if u r looking to gain some real knowledge in the area of ur interest, u should look for a better school.
Now the schools that would fit that category are very few like IIMs, MDI, SP Jain and a few others.
I was refering to my case: I have 5 years experience in stock markets. Now I know my grey areas and wish to improve upon those areas but I donot see how UBS can help me achieve my goals. I know the program better than most of you, so I know what I am saying.
Any positive criticism rather than immature statements would serve a better purpose for all the boarders.
Regards, Sidharth.
dear sidharth, best of luck for the us mba....
taking the discussion forward is something which i also do not look forward too...
as for being known to the faculty is concerned....congrats...you have learnt the art of networking...
as far as comparing ubs from 5 years back...sorry, you have not learnt what drives the job market...hopefully you will do it in usa....for your friends...hard luck....
hopefully i bump into you in spjain...provided both of us get calls...
Hi there, This year IDBI will recruit at UBS. A former alumni will come over to recruit at the institute for retail banking especially for the position of relationship managers.
IDBI has itself approached UBS for placements and North India head of IDBI specifically told me that marketing of UBS was really poor till 2 years ago.
just wondering how would you know the program better than the students who are studying there...or the students who have passed out and are doing well...
and as far as your points of having a program designed to suit your particular needs are concerned...i would agree that iims are the place for that....but then that still does not give you any leeway to go and slam a program which you have not been admitted to yourself...my point being...be inside the program, criticise then...be outside...hold your peace....
UBS has received a lot of press in recent days thanks to the stellar 100% placements and Annual Alumni getogether....
http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=173463 IBM Daksh CEO shares secrets of success at UBS alumni meetExpress News Service Chandigarh, March 11:I was just an average student at the department but developed good relations with the topper to score well in the exams, remarked Sanjeev Aggarwal, CEO of IBM Daksh, in a lighter vein as he was felicitated for being the most distinguished alumni at the Alumni Reunion of the University Business School (UBS), Panjab University, here today. Speaking about his professional success and the learning process of setting up the leading BPO, Aggarwal, a passout of 1980 MBA batch, let out his secret of success: of focussing on his strengths and not overly bothered about his weaknesses.
Most of the time, as we focus too much on what we dont have and too little on the qualities that we possess, we end up just being mediocre. To excel, one must focus on ones positive points, rather than correcting the negatives, he advised the young MBAs present at the gathering.
Aggarwal said that the present ecosytem in the country is conducive for entrepreneurship and that Brand India is now getting the respect and recognition in global markets.
The GDP is growing at eight per cent and the venture capital is available now to start new projects, he said.
Calling his wifes contribution, the single most important factor in his professional success, Aggarwal reassured his alma mater of giving back what he had received from the department.
Meanwhile the silver jubilee 1980 batch of MBA, PM and IR and M Com were honoured on the occasion and were given momentoes. Most of the alumni of this batch had come from far away places and were nostalgic of their campus life. One minutes silence was observed in the memory of Ritu Gandhi of 1980 MBA batch, who passed away due to cancer in Canada and Nachhatar Singh of 1980 M Com Batch. Chairperson of UBS, Prof Satish Kapur welcomed the alumni and apprised them of the present facilities at the UBS.
THE four core PU departments - Pharmaceutical Studies, UBS, Computer Science and UIET - came together to train 65 new recruits from Dr Reddy's Laboratory, which is opening a unit at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.
http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=167149 Dollar dreams at PUPU's business school student gets record offer of Rs 25 lakh and a foreign postingNeelam Sharma Chandigarh, January 25:Money talks. Record money talks louder. And when the package touches US$ 48,000 for placement in a global software major, it breaks all records at the University Business School (UBS). Convert that into rupees, and Ashish Sahi, an MBA student majoring in International Business, will get a cool Rs 25 lakh a year for his stint with US major eSys Information Technologies - statistically, way above the average package of Rs 5 lakh per annum offered for domestic placements at UBS this year.
He adds,''It is not great to be in the middle management at the age of 35 but I am on rolls of a company most admired among the lot by the Fortune magazine.'' A 1990-batch student of UBS, he says the UBS has grown leaps and bounds. There are half-a-dozen UBS passouts in Toronto itself, where Jaspal lives. ''And as much as I know, about 30 ex-UBS students are spread all over Canada. The number could be more but I am only acquainted with passouts of around six batches,'' he says. His wife Amandeep Jaspal, a 94-batch pass-out from UBS, is also an HR consultant with an e-Commerce company - Requisite.
i am doing my summers with Godrej in chandigarh..... can any body tell me if i can get to stay at UBS during my summers and if rules of insti allows so what is the formal channel for it. mail me at [email protected] / [email protected] parry PS expecting a quick response
Hi Parry, firstly, no email on the forum, dude, the mod. gets upset. Coming to your query, UBS does not have any hostel of its own, its located on the Panjab University Campus, and there are many hostels located here catering to all of PU departments, rooms are reserved for each deptt. as goes for UBS.
You can log onto ubschandigarh.org, or puchd.ac.in for more details about hostels. ATB
