The countdown begins.... 20 Days.

Do we have Poker club at XL? Do we allowed to have one?

If allowed, how many people are interested in Poker...if you dont know how to play it...leave that to me...

Poker is real fun...with startegy and intelligence....trust me

It's played here for fun by some (including yours trully 😃 )...But no club as such...Agree with the last line 😃

Foreign Students from 4 Countries to visit XLRI
Link

Students from four countries, including France, Sweden, Philippines and Germany, would come to XLRI as part of an international students exchange programme.

Officials of the B-school said that for the first time students from so many countries would be on the campus as part of the exchange programme.

Except Germany, all other countries have confirmed the students participation at the exchange programme to begin in September. The students from abroad would stay at the B-school for four months, said Shivapada Ray, the in-charge of students exchange programme at XLRI.

The management schools, which have confirmed participation, include Asian Institute of Management (Manila), EM Lyon and IESEG School of Management (both based in France) and Malardalen University (Sweden).

About 15 students from the four management schools abroad would be part of the students exchange programme.

...As a part of the exchange programme, students from XLRI would also visit he B-schools in Philippines, France, Sweden and Germany.

...In fact, XLRI has signed memoranda of understanding with about 15 management schools in the US, Belgium, the UK, Manila, Hong Kong, France and Sweden for students exchange programme.

....please add Thialand , Greece and Australia also to the list of countries... :)
even sir forgot to do it :)

Life at XLRI has officially begun....

Its everything that you can hope for, mess food is better than what seniors described. Library's quite huge and scary a the same time. A book on 'Labour Laws in Uttar Pradesh' could be used for body building. Campus is lush green, beautifully landscaped. We have fully automatic washing machines on each floor. We played football in the rain today, planning another game tomorrow morning. Also met a few seniors although most of them haven't come yet. Remembering so many new names and faces is quite a task.

Will post more later, tomorrow we're going to explore Jampot. Will do some necessary shopping, but right now going downstairs to see Euro 2008.

XL ROCKS.

Life at XL certainly rawks. We went around the entire city today....started out at the zoo... watched pheasants, peacocks, nilgais, tigers, panthers...and even a dinosaur (model)...went boating...ate at an upmarket restaurant.... went to Sakchi market (a street-side market akin to Sarojini), went to Bistupur market (posh hai :thumbsup)....visited Jubilee park and watched the laser show....a great day with loads of fun...

You can watch the pics at http://www.orkut.co.in/Album.aspx?uid=10405612712830797168&aid;=1213314102

As promised, here is life@XL from GMP perspective....

Campus is good...and specially GMP accomodations :)

Guys, if you have any meet at XL campus...keep updated this thread...would like to attend and meet you...

By the way, do we have any competition for TT at XL? Also, who are the guys who play poker...

Rains! :banghead: I hate the rain, and it hardly ever seems to stop here. It has been pouring since today morning, and shows no signs of letting up. So, pretty dull day. But had some great lectures today, and could understand why XL's faculty is so widely respected.

Met Bugs Bunny today, and almost didn't recognise him, coz I was half-asleep.

This is my first stint in a hostel, and it's great!

P.S. I didn't know the 'Why HR' thread was so famous!! :poketounge:

I have a question to ask you. It would be nicw if u answer it.
I am a commerce graduate(200 and pretty good with calculations and spoken english but find topics like algebra, permutation, geometry in mathematics and the non Reading comprehension section in english tough. How should i solve this problem and with 5 months to go how much quality time should i spend daily towards my CAT preparation ( including newspaper reading).

Prologue...
We're all waiting for 11th of June as that day I am supposed to board the train for Jamshedpur; and goshhhh the Howrah Express is late as usual.
OK... the train was late by 2 hours and I used the time to see Euro 2008. Finally boarded the train and searched for the other XL guys. But that wasn't enough; the train got late by 5 Hrs finally.

Day One(13th June)
Finally we reached here. Yes we could see the Tata Pigment company and we knew that the TataNagar station is not too far. We 5 guys hired coolie for some 300 Rs and obviously from TataNagar's standards, it indeed was a very expensive deal; but we were all fed up of the delay. The first thing in everyone's mind was to reach XL and get some food . One thing which must be mentioned here is the weather. Man... what a humid whether it was and still it is... we were all sweating like we do in gyms generally:eyepop:.

We all found the roads to XL very good and really that created a very good impression. I had not thought that Jamshedpur would be such a tidy and clean city. We all had heard that you dont get everything u want, here; but now I doubt that as there were many showrooms of branded materials. So I think the city also rocks however we have not been to city till now.

Just 10-15 minutes and we could see... "
XLRI Estd. 1949" and wow... we actually were into XLRI, GOD that was an awesome feeling...at that time I thought that I actually made it to one of the most prestigious colleges in India. One of the things that strike when u enter the college or Jamshedpur is the greenery. The lawns are lush green, well maintained, trees all around and there we see the "Father Enright Men's Residence" our Home Away from Home... :oha:. The rooms are good... u dont need bigger rooms than these but there are some sour things also...the fans are too slow and such slow fans in such hot and humid weather... ohhhhh. Otherwise the cupboards, the racks, the tables(2 for each person) everything is good.

After setting up everything, we had our first meal in the mess and yes the mess is really awesome. Just some roaming around and then followed the best thing of that day. It started with a group of just 4 people but in the end we were more than 50 people sitting in the lawn. We all had introduction sessions a lot of bakar and a lot of fun tooo. Wow... my first interaction with the XLRI students and my batchmates. The night sleep could've been a bit problematic if I had not been that much tired.

Day Two
The day started with formals... as we had to go for the registration session, we all wore formals; though it was a bit uncomfortable, but then also it was good. The best thing though was the AC of Fr. Prabhu Hall. It was followed by the lecture on the Library facilities and I must say that though the lecture was informative, our batch made it entertaining also(a lot of clapping and what not.... We were given one Handbook in the registration session, one in the Library session and that wasn't enough so we got one more handbook in the next lecture which was on the Hostel and rules about the same... GOD.. so many rules.. :poketoungeb:.

The day time passed nicely as we were in the AC for most of the time, but the best was yet to come. Come evening, we all were in the football ground of XLRI. Many were playing football, many basketball(including Fr. James also) and many volleyball too. Enjoyment was in the weather here.. it started raining but we all kept on playing...I'm not a great sports freak but I also played for more than 2 Hrs...that was really cool :cheerio:. Again dinner followed by a lengthy You Tube session in Jasmeet's room till 2 AM and we laughed our hearts out there...wonderful environment.

Day Three
The day was called "Know Your City" and we all had plans to go outside to see the Jamshedpur city. Being one of the last FREE days in XLRI, everyone was too lazy to get up early and we couldn't leave before 12:00 cause of that same thing. But then we did go to the nearby Jubilee Park. Goshhh I dont know after how many years, I was in a Zoo. But was a nice one... we did roam a lot... did a lot of bakar as usual and obviously enjoyed a lot... (yeah we saw... camel, sparrows, dogs etc etc there :poketoungeb:. That was followed by a visit to "Novelty" a good restaurant in Bistpur and then to the Sakchi bazaar of Jamshedpur. Did some shopping and then we're back in the hostel, too tired to roam around anywhere else. But that also couldn't stop us... we went to Jubilee park again for the Laser show at 7:00 PM...huh...why? Dont ask me(The initial intro of Jamshedpur was awesome though)

When we came back to hostel... the stage was set in the JLT(lawn) and the meeting had already started. Seniors had arrived in the campus and now the introduction session with the seniors was going on. It was cool and light. We all had fun and it realy helped us juniors also to REremember many names(tell u in the first week this has been the toughest thing... to remember names of everyone). The meeting ended at 1:45 in morning and we could still sit for more time if he had had the content to talk over or some more queries to badger our seniors... :poketoungeb:.

Day Four
We had the inauguration ceremony in the TATA auditorium and after that for the first time we entered the Class Rooms of XLRI. Wow again... it's always a nice feeling to discover a new place in XLRI.. it again makes u feel that u've reahced where u wanted to reach. The lecture was of Descriptive Statistics as a part of the "Preparatory Course" and it was not tooo rigorous, it was cool and nice. That was followed by High Tea for both the batches and then we're freeeeee.... again we got time to hang out with friends, to talk to people and to do a lot of bakar etc etc. Greattt.

Epilogue
The preparatory course is going on now... and I know that Picture abhi baaki hai...as the regular classes will start from 25th. I know that this is not even the trailor, I know that it'll be much much more rigorous than what we're facing right now but I also know that It'll shape our future, it'll be much much more interesting and engaging than this, that the life from here will only get better if we do the hardwork which we definitely gonna do.

We're finally a part of XLRI now... and we're all proud of it.

Cheers for XLRI

XLent, Awesome awesome awesome...

the complete night I spent saying these words only... to everyone in our batch whom I came acros...

this is all because I saw the current Bodhi Tree practicing yesterday. Mannn... the guitarists(3 in all), the drummer , the singers... everyone was just.... AWESOME...

Too good...

gotta go for class....

I could see...

I could see a man sitting in the JLT. He's wearing black suit, black polished suit, a loose tie,a bit of gray hairs also. I guess he would be guy having a good position in a good company.

He called in some guys... junior batch, made them sit in the JLT(he himself was sitting on the stairs and the juniors on the ground as it is the norm). He took the intro sessions, had some fun and interacted.

In the end, one of the Juniors asked him... "what's ur name sir???" He said... "Manan Shamihoke... BM Batch 2010"... ohh that's me. :

No I'm not a fool... these all thoughts came into my mind when I was in last lecture... Professor Irudayaraj took it on "XL History and Culture". I'd just say that many a people had a very watery eyes when it eneded... just tooo emotional... very very emotional we all got.

Particularly at a point when he was telling us about Alumni of XL...who had passed 25 years ago... who still visit XL and sit in the JLT and say this is still MY XLRI... this is my Identity.

Just Awesome... no need to say anything after it.

XL Rocks...

Amen to that, Manan. 😃 Very well put. Our class also had that session and it was fantabulous. I'm even more proud to be an XLer, thanks to the prof.

Now... as all the lectures for today are over... It's time for fun.

We have our first competition of the year. It's the BM-A Vs BM-B Football match. Writing this post just before leaving...

I am in BM-B so I would support them only... but I know one thing... whoever among BM-A/BM-B or PMIR wins... XLRI will be the winner.

Cheeers.....

Day SEVEN(19th June):
We had regular lectures... that was followed by an Intro session with seniors in the JLT... and then wow... I heard Bodhi Tree for the first time in my life. I spent my whole evening listening to them while they were practicing. It was AWESOME...
But what??? It was supposed to be the first day of our Gyan Lectures. The lecture started at 10:30PM and was on Marketing (by seniors for Juniors to help them, THANKS SENIORS). It ended at 1:30 AM and then as we had got a case study, so I studied till 4:30 AM and then slept .

Day EIGHT:
Again regular lectures... again the Gyan session(on Finance this time started at 11:00PM and ended at 2:00 AM)... but no... that's not the end. the Gyan session was followed by a Senior Junior meet at 2:00AM in the 3rd floor terrace just for 3rd and 4th floor guys of hostel...and I live in 3rd floor.... So???? The meet got over at around 6:00 in the morning and then I didn't sleep as I knew that I w'dnt be able to get up if I slept at that time... so no sleep yesterday...

Day NINE:
(Well we have some assignment to submit on 22nd...) Again some lectures followed by the Gyan session (on HR/IR and Eco) wich started at 11:00 PM and ended at 1:00AM.
And now??? Well I'm still awake doing the case analysis...so...last time I slept at 4:30AM two days ago...:2gunfire::-P:tongue::biggrin::crazyeye::

The life's really rocking now... I can see rocks in air....

Bye.. it's time for some sleep now...

Cya...

If you guys havn't noticed Manan's post times yet, look again.

We hardly get to sleep, and the course hasnt even started yet.

Its funny that you doze off just as the lecture is about to start and freshen up as soon as the lecture ends.

PS: Manan is my next door neighbour, he's also my alarm clock.
