Life@ XLRI Jamshedpur

Me and seeds are sitting in the computer centre learning some new software....

Manan is my roomie....

Seeds next door....

Not getting enuf sleep is an issue but trust me, the fun factor more than makes up for it....

Staying awake in lectures is a skill tht we have to develop , and tht too pretty soon....

isnt tht true , manan and seeds ??

Now... as all the lectures for today are over... It's time for fun.

We have our first competition of the year. It's the BM-A Vs BM-B Football match. Writing this post just before leaving...

I am in BM-B so I would support them only... but I know one thing... whoever among BM-A/BM-B or PMIR wins... XLRI will be the winner.

Cheeers.....

BM-B won in football...I also played.... But we lost to PMIR in basketball..:tellme:.
But again we won in Women's ThrowBall..:2gunfire:... but BM-A lost to PMIR in volleyball .

Whoever has won, we all had a lot of fun...

More updates...

-> BM-A gals lost to PMIR gals in throw ball .
-> BM-A guys beat the BM-B guys in VolleyBall match.

Nights @ XLRI...

If anyone ever asks you about the life at XL, do tell him that it's a very untiring college and the same is expected out of the students also.

Even if they have work or not, they stay till late ,enjoy together and work together.

Last night only(or I shall say today morning), we had a Gyan Session on Strategy Management at 12:00AM by a senior . It got over by 1:00 AM...then we gathered in one room and man... we found one of OUR BATCH guitarists for Bodhi Tree. He plays very very good... Anupam...dude u also rock.

Many of us stayed in that room till 3:00 Am, we sang and sang and sang... and then went for sleep. Though we were tired even at 1:00 AM, but when it comes to enjoying together... XL people are always ready.

we are used to sleeping at the wrong times and staying awake otherwise :-P....hope so we gain that expertise of sustaining with a 2hr sleep..

PS: @manan , that case till 5 in the morning was really enjoyable...hope we get more such time and even more sleep
XL ka climate very very bad

Since I hate the rains, and this weather makes me sick (literally) I'm not quite enjoying the rainy days. Have been suffering from viral fever for nearly 4 days now 😞 but still, XL rocks. It is a great experience being here, and I'm looking forward to the beginning of term on Wednesday. It will be an honour to be taught by such intelligent and brilliant faculty members as XL has.

Somehow, the feeling that I'm at XL still hasn't sunk in fully. Every time I pick up my phone, its location display says XLRI, and I have to pinch myself to ensure that it's really true. Unbelievable!!

The train journey with 15 odd folks from Delhi, the nights out spent talking, and getting to know people better, the midnight chai sessions, the late night/early morning TT tournaments, the rush to occupy the shower cubicles in the morning, waking up sleepy folks et al.... I AM LOVING IT!!!

This is my first post on pagalGuy after being at XL (and m really sorry for any repets that I am making here). The reason may be attributed to many a things. First obviously as lots of batchmates have already mentioned is time..... its a scarce resource here because there are lots of venues for us to invest our time and improve that one or the other choice is always available......... No one in true sense can say that he is passionate about something and you do not have that thing at XL..... (now dont ask for bonefire every night :nono: ) . One can chill in Bodhi tree (although m not much game for it with soar throat ), go for football, bedminton and ask for the sports that you want to delve into..... and that with gr8 players in every field.
That was one aspect the most fascinating thing is about faculty, really the opportunity to learn directly from the source (the prof himself has written the book...... who else can be the authority on the subject then) is amazing...... Although it is also very demanding as there is so much induction of learnings, the atmosphere does it all. Even with such a high profile faculty the emphasise on building the basics is one thing that it the thing that is not found very frequently.
And now the library it is the paradise where one can learn the concepts he has never ever heard about (thats the case with me as m engg. by background) so with the one of the best libraries in the country at disposal, one never feels the dearth of resources.........ask for any learning material and you will get it.
It is not the complete list I know, because everything can't be expresses in words and are better to explore, feel and imbibe.
Yes the weather has been almost rainy every day since I reached here. Although I got soar throat but still the beauty of surroundings is the one thing that worths all this.
definitely life here is really an enriching experiencing that i m really looking forward to it.

Today was the 'official' start of the main course, as they say...And what a way to start it..Firstly, the class starts at 2.30pm, with all of us having 7+ hours of sleep(BM-A guys, add to the groans ;))....and that too a session of OB..with a great prof, we had fun throughout the session...as mentioned by all here, its a privilege to interact with the faculty here...The best part of the session :-
Prof - What is the goal that you wish to achieve from OB
Grp X - Knowledge and Enlightenment
Prof (on the board) - NIRVANA (we couldnt stop laughin on this )

Btw, about the film yday on the condition of tribals in Jharkhand, though it was long..when I talked to the director and the content provider, I got to understand the amount of research and passion that they have put in..Esp Mr.Katyayan (the latter guy), who has been in so many committees for national projects...The solutions that we mentioned seemed so trivial; they have tried out everything, still things are in the same state..a mind-opener, really !

Just Back from the TT matches...we (BM-B) won the womens....IR second...but IR guys won the Men's (Have to do something about Sreenath....his smashes are so fast, we need a slow motion to check whether the ball hit the table)...we (BM-B) were the 2nd, but put up a pretty good fight till the end for the doubles....BM-A were the last in both (and taking pride of having made a podium finish )

Not to mention BM-A is on currently top in...

Football
Men's Badminton - Singles
Men's Badminton - Doubles
Men's Vollyball

I just heard that PMIR guys kicked BM-B's tush in vollyball and throwball.... tsk tsk tsk!!

... pfft got a finger ache from soo much typing.

yes dude... BM-A rocks...;)

My voice is still hoarse from all the sledging that I did for my PMIR folks.

And it's not Srinath's TT skills that you should be scared of....but his tennis skills.....if he displays the same power hitting in lawn tennis, someone could be seriously hurt.

IR!!! IR!!!

Jst to add to the list ....

BM- A is on top in Basketball as well.....
We have a dream team there and a sure shot 1st place....

Have 2 days of hols frm 2day.....
We have been told that holidays at XL are even more taxing than attending classes....
We would be having presentations from the various committees in XL with them inviting applications for selection....
Lets see what happens 2day....
Hade a presentation from the Placement Committee ( PlaceCom as they call it ) yesterday night....
We were told that PlaceCom work eats up a large amount of your time apart from Academics....
They have asked from CVs from interested candidates accompanied by a few essays like why PlaceCom and such.....
The deadline is 30th June...
Hardly 2 days left....
Would really like to be in that committee....
A lot of reading to catch up on as all profs have completed the first chapter of their course......
Hmmmmm....
after writing all this, it seems that the holidays are indeed more taxing....;)
