Hello all..
life just started at IITK.
V reported to the campus by 22nd. V could recognise each other as v were in constant touch over orkut for a longer time. V felt as if v know one another for a longer time.

The birthday celebrations, meetings, cricket matches, case presentations, academic pressure, laptop deliveries, movie plays & rappo with seniors, what not, life is on a new dimension for all of us.
The IIT campus, its life & culture took us back to the student life.
I thank my batch mates for their zeal, eagerness & activeness.
V expect more to come & as we go through it, v learn more.
Keep visiting the thread to know more about the fun, study & all @ IITK.

Hi all..
yet another rocking day @ IITK on the eve of FRIENDSHIP DAY.
The entire batch rose to the occassion. All the guys & gals danced to some rocking music. (the pics will be uploaded shortly)
The party went on till 11 PM. We enjoyed it. Kudos to all my batchmates for making it a big hit. Special thanks to the CulClub which organised the event

P.S. V had a test in the afternoon. V had to rush to the class in the rain as the test was conducted by none other than our HoD.

Friends,

A few days back we had a guest lecture from Prof. Gupta from IIM A and the discussion revolved around the words " Innovation" and " Ideas". We all hear these words in company meetings and board room discussions, but it was a great experience for all of us to feel and see innovation at the grass root level. we could see, how poor and needy people in differnt villages, both in India and outside the country living their life which is full of innovations and which the whole world is unaware of. He presented a few of the video recordings about those innovations and we could say nothing after looking at them but " Wao!!" Here goes the link about the lecture and really hats off for all those people full of ideas and innovations, but isolated from the world.

(From the page of my diary)

..........Oh! after three years of work experience I m still a fresher? A confusion prevailed in my mind. But, people told me that all those in the MBA first year are invited for the party named "Freshers Party" hosted by our seniors. Personally speaking the word "Party" itself fills me with a lot of excitement and i always look forward to such events. But, i was surprised to see that my sidee was more excited then i was and every body in the hostel was full of energy and excitement and each one of us has his or her own ideas as how to make this party a memorable one. Finally after long hours of journey, the time arrived and on that day after our classes we all rushed to our hostels and then to the venue of the party. For the moment looking at the formal occassion, i thought as if i am back to my Reliance party. Every one was behaving in a formal way and greeting each other as if they are meeting for the first time. A few ladies were in sarees and I thought profs were also invited for the party. But, I was told they were not. I asked my friend " Is Kingfisher sponsoring this event? "So many airhostesses????? " "Idiot, they are our seniors and batchmates." :wow: This was his reply. My god and goodness. Why don't girls always behave this way and what problem they have if they always remain like this? Or they wait for some special ocassions to dress in some special way, so that some special people appreciate them with some special compliment, so that they feel they are very special in this crowd of ordinary people. Any ways unending and unpridictable surmises.

Although each one of us was quite familiar with each other, the party started with the introductions and other formalities. Every one was given a chance to come on to the stage and flount his or her talent. The whole atmosphere of the party was quite in its high sprits. Each one of us was enjoying other's dancing, singing, witty, humorous skills and every one was eger to perform on the stage. Finally, ten people were shortlisted for Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher title and another round started. The final round was terrible and hard to describe in words. Seniors were coming with their own way to judge people on the stage and we first year were ready to do what ever they asked. There was a competition between our boldness and their ideas and everybody was eager to see who wins at the end. Finally the round ended and the winners were decided and given the prizes.
After the final event, it was time to dance and rock the dance floor. Some people were dancing to test if they are left with some dancing skills. And in case of some "dancers" it was still not clear whether they were really dancing. A few people actually rocked the floor and they continued till the end of the party as always happens. Some silent dancers headed for their dinner and enjoyed dancing in their own way. Some people suddenly remembered that they are doing MBA here and started class room discussions on the dinner table with the seniors. But, the sound of music was more louder than the sound of their curiosity. Later on everybody was welcomed on the dinner table. Some unsatiated souls preffered dancing to dinner and they continued till midnight.
Overall it was fun and our first party in IITK of this sort, where we had forgotten for some time that we were here for MBA and next morning we had a seminar.

cheers,
Vikram

There are lots of things, pre-imagined and pre-conceived before one enters into the 'hallowed portals' of a business-school. All these notions are because of the hyper active nasal, aural and vocal aids all of us possess (Peculiar to the much criticised MBA aspirant). And more now because of the ultimate wonder fondly abbreviated as compy and lappy (huh).
Before I came to the IIT K business school, I heard from my friends elsewhere that these colleges in particular have this knack of making people get used to the erratic schedules of a manager in a very funny way. Classes can be scheduled at weird hours in the night, extending to 3 hour sessions, with no breaks in betweenL.3 hours without the site of a peacock (yeah u find them outnumbering people in IIT K), without the touch of fresh air (I dont like air conditioners and the zephyr in IIT is too refreshing), without thinking about whats been cooking in the mess ( cant take balance sheets, cash flows, operations management out of mind for those 3 hrs). That is unimaginable.
But yes, thats what happensall the time. Because classes get so interesting and interactive that you cant let your mind wander. In fact, it refuses to.

At the onset all of us got really irritated when our professors scheduled classes on weekends and holidays. Why were we being made to bear the onus of an extended curriculum? Yeah... Many such questions came to mind and all of us couldnt help cribbing about them. But finally like the light of enlightenment fell on Gautam Buddha it dawned on us that all of this is a part of the process. The job of a manager never gives you a chance to be comfortable..because if you get comfortable you are not going to work hard enough. And then it will be impossible to do What others dream.
Here at IIT K we are being taught (explicitly and implicitly) how to live life. A life full of challenges, full of ideas and full of innovation. We are being inspired to think and this rigorous training is a part of that process. I am sure once we are out of here we ll be able to say.. Yeah I could do that I can work well, work efficiently in the most arduous conditions and who taught me that My amazing college, of course

Life is rocking @ IIT K !!!
Thats only one line description of what makes it to be a part of the prestigious MBA program of this institute..
Well, all finance chaps -- gear up !!
After today's class of Accounting, nobody can deny the fact that Finance and IIT K are synonymous..hey the Balance Sheet and P&L; quiz !! oops...it sucked the blood out of each and every student sitting in the classroom and struggling through the transaction sheet to derive the final figure of Assets, Liabilities, Income, Expenses, Profit..that too in just 20 minutes (hey this is too less yaar to deal with 15 odd transactions!!) and please as our great IIM Accounting professor say -- guys, this is just the beginning...
The class extended till 2 pm in continuation with the day's before class that ended at 10 pm...its too much yaar !!!
But ya, a lot of learning coupled with practicality of the subject...and mind u, interaction with the enthusiastic BTech guys instills a totally fresh environment in the class..
In a gist, Finance savvy chaps, just look out for IIT K if u climb unsurmountable mountains in this field...

Hey junta,

I m still terified with his comment in the class..

"Why do you want to go for Lunch and Dinner, when you have this subject to eat and drink?"

interaction with the enthusiastic BTech guys instills a totally fresh environment in the class..

This is the best thing here @ IITK. Learning with people from different backgrounds provide an opportunity to work in a team fashion. The M Tech, B Tech people (they will come for special courses such as accounting/economics) have different way of looking at things. Technically, it might be similar to what MBAs might think. But, its new & unique to learn the different visualisations they (B Techs & M Techs) have.
The academic curriculum is just getting harder & harder for us.
The assignments, (closer to) practical stock investments, balance sheets, P & L account, OR models, Economics, Database project design.....are demanding the time management from us.
Yet, its a fun for us to run from pillar to post to do the things.
V have our mids from 30th (too soon for a B school whose curriculum is just 17 days old)
But v have to live with it & I am Sure that V'll do it.

Keep watching this space for more info...

hi all,
Wish u all a very happy independence day.. our nation is 60 years 'young' now.. we have come a long way and still have to traverse greater heights.. we owe to the nation and being a part of the most prestigious institutes in this country, its our duty to steer the nation on a prgressive course..
perhaps the govt realises the importance of institutes like IITs and that's why the PM today announced of opening 'five new Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, eight new IITs, seven new IIMs and 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology' .. so may be in the comin years IITs would not be a rare species

Proud to be an Indian..

happy independence day to all of you.we at IIT Kanpur MBA are practicing the popular belief in the corporate world which is "WORK HARD,PARTY HARDER".

Hello Friends,

Recently Business club of IIT K , commonly known as B-club, was in the news at IIT K and the reason was that as part of its activities, the club was going to organise its most awaited seminar on business related topic by B club members. This time the topic cloosen was "Stock Market Analysis" and all those MBA people for whom the word "Stock" is a passion shared their experience with the IIT K junta. This time first year MBA people were give the chance to share their experiences in the stock market and second year guys also contributed. The unpredictable element of the stock market was also seen in the audi, where people present were almost more than double of what we intitally expected. For those people who were new to the stock field, some basis and elementry aspects of the market were also touched upon. It was a great fun and a learning experience for all those who were present there and the presentation was ended with a promise of one more lecture series on more business related topic. I think, the recent increase in enthu about business can easily be justified. The good thing about stock market is the whether it's bull market or bear market , it always remains interesting. Isn't it??

hello Adtiya,

It's good to know that you are feeling inclined towards business world and wants to approach it with open eyes. Adtiya, if you want to get the feeling of business world, from my personal experience all i can say that....

1. The real learning and business experience comes when you are in a job and have some job experience. When you are in a job, you really feel as if you are part of this business world and get to know about the know-how of business and how companies functions. If you can get the feel of business, without being part of it ( which actually very few people get it), you can think of MBA directly after your graduation.

2. Enter in stock market. If you want to get an early experience better you start now, or start when you are in job. There is a site known as monercontrol.com and there you can play stock market virtually. But, personally i say that, unless and until you enter with real money, you won't be able to learn much and won't take it seriously. Start with a low amount say 10000 and see how you perform and stock market is the surest and the best way to get a feeling of what business is all about. But, beware if you feel that your studies are getting hampered, better to stay way from it till you get into an organisation.

3.Start with The economics times, read business week and business world and case studies there and they will keep you updated with all the information. i won't suggest you to read them throughly, but be in touch with all the latest development and happenings like M&A;, SEZ, new product launch to name a few.

4. In starting you may feel that, some things may not interest you, but my request to you is that pls. do not give up in the begining itself. Just go thro' the things once. What all matters is that whether you give up or not. Starting any thing is not a big deal.

cheers,
Vikram
Today, for a change, we were coached by our seniors.(the weekend being the only time for such activities). And the course we were coached were was accounting. Apart from the usual lectures which we get from our Prof. Phani (he being the real king of this subject:satisfie:), our seniors gave us the opportunity to have an interactive session where they shared their experiences and the difficulties they faced in this subject. And then came some useful tips to overcome them and a polite submission of them being in the same state last year (surely giving us a confidence that we could overcome it as well:)). We asked tons of questions :wow:but thanks to our seniors who patiently answered them all.The session ended with the promise of coming up with more of similar events. And not only in accounting, but in other courses as well. Surely, they deserve a thunderous applause and a promise that we wont let their efforts in vain..:)
