well the question is Is differential is needed in a maruti 800 car? and the answer is
not @ all man ... the maruti comes with a std front drive differential on the front axle which is pretty tough to change as in u won't b able 2 find the right ppl to do it caue it requires the machining of the axle and thus speciallized, expensive equipment.
do mind this: it can be done but won't serve much of a purpose as the maruti has a 796 cc engine and a pwr of 38 hp app. it's actually the cheapest petrol car in the market designed for simple transport and not racing.
drive differential modification is useful only on a powerfull car and tht too as a 'extreme' modification!
Nice Question I must admit. I believe that Railway coaches don't moce on a curvilinear path. When a train has to turn its not a curve but moves through a set of parallel straight lines.
People wat abt Operation Research. Its also a part of mechanical engineering. Any questions from OR ??? I was asked to corealte Game theory and mechanical engineering
Great thread puys . I would request all the mech janta who made it to some interview to post the tech part of their interview here along with their feedbacks and suggestions. This Will give us a better idea and will be a great help for all of us . Cheers
is thre any mba that offer both mechanical stram and mba ? i want to be a techno manager , does any b school offer that kind of degree ? help me out pls

Den go for NITIE. For more details just check the website. You can apply through CAT as well as GATE. For both you must have high percentile 98+ 😃
thanks a lot for the info . i went thru the site its very cool . my area of interest is IE OLY , but other subjects i dont like much .. but gate and cat 98 %tile ?:o........ve to work for it frm now
hello sir , i m doing my final year mechanical . i want to be a techno manager. i fell short of gate qualifying mark . are u at NITIE ? i was searching for a techo managerial degree . i went thru the site and found it very interesting . can u tel me ur success story ??

Here are the technical questions from mechanical that were asked from me during the interviews
XIMB interview
What are the defects in casting? How to prevent them? Types of furnaces Melting point of iron
IITB interview
Major project functioning Circuit diagram of major project Why does a bike gives maximum efficiency when the speed is between 30-50 km/hr Diff b/w diesel and petrol engine
A hollow cube of dimension 650mm x 650mm x 650 mm. A device is kept in that closed box which dessipates heat of 200W. The initial temperature of the box is 25 degree celcius. What time the box will take to reach 45 degree celcius.
great thread....... i have a few queries here please give the best of your knowledge with details justification: 1) What will happen if we put petrol in a diesel engine and diesel in a petrol engine??? In which case it will run?? 2) How does a train braking system works??? any idea please...... 3) Why loaders, JCB, tractors, etc have their silencer pipe towards the upward position over the vehicle while trucks, buses, cars, etc have it under the vehicle???
I was asked in my IIM-B interview that what is second law of thermodynamics and why is it important. I told them that second law of thermodynamics is that entropy of a system is always increasing and gave an example that we can find which way rxn will proceed by applying this law. Then they asked me is it valid when an ant is reproducing I still have no clue what they were trying to ask.
wrong ans !!!!!
2 law- is Kelvin plank statement : Heat can never flow from a body having lower temp (Technically- Sink) to a body having higher Temp. (Source) ............w/o the aid of any external work. You ans is 3rd law.... Example is Refrigerator in our home
1 q - Black body : hmmm......to the best of my knowledge not much happen the body will make itself in equilibrium with the room temp.
2Q----ans when the beam is horizontal load distribution is linear , uniform ....which results in linear momentum but when it si placed vertically the momentum is 0 because the line of action is same n momentum is force* distance in this case Distance is 0.
I was asked in IMT GZB interview which of the two cars should I buy Tata Indica or Zen Estello and why?? Then he went on to petrol engine vs Diesel Engine which one is better which gives more fuel effciency which has low running cost which has low mantainance cost more safety Since I have worked with an automobile company that to a Tier one Vendor to both Maruti and Tata for Air Conditioning systems so I was ready for such questions
Simple one.... Tata indica ----lacks in Suspension. requires high maintenance thirdly....as TATA known for HCV so not reliable compared to Maruti .....

/ / A series of such joints are there.
I might be wrong coz . Ne comments on this one
u ppl seems very weak in mechanical.... guys come out of book If you belongs to Mechanical Engg.
Such simple simple questions & stilling worrying....ans is simple
let me introduce myself .... i am an Automobile engg.......& u can ask any question regarding Automobile & some part of Mech which i study.....

1. Diesel in petrol engine makes it run ____Reason ___1. Diesel ignition temp is less compared to petrol...2. Spark plug is provided in case of petrol engine....3. Flamability of diesel is uniform.
In case of petrol in diesel ...0 % workdone no result beacuse petrol ignition temp is high & diesel engine is CI & the maximum temp in CI engine is 675 C
2. Train braking system : Vaccum brakes
3.Tractor,JCB are a different class of automobile ...they served different purpose....silence are in upward dirct or in front so that while working they (Silencers) remain cut off from mud stones.

grt!! just adding my 2 cents to 1st Q's ans..
1. when Petrol is used in CI engine, it wont work as there is no spark plug.. the pressure and temp in CI engine are not suff to cause the ignition in the absence of spark plug..
@Sure,
can u elaborate on 3rd ans, i m not getting it still..
me 2 a mech eng passed out in 2007........i have great lakes interview this 13....so any suggestions as to what to study regarding the subject???pls guide...
