Mechanical Engineering core questions

grt!!
just adding my 2 cents to 1st Q's ans..

1. when Petrol is used in CI engine, it wont work as there is no spark plug.. the pressure and temp in CI engine are not suff to cause the ignition in the absence of spark plug..

@Sure,

can u elaborate on 3rd ans, i m not getting it still..

JCB, tractors are off road vehicled there prime function in in field like ploughing of tractors, Silencers are placed in vertical direction or in front so as to cut off the interaction with mud stones which can choke it.:lookround:

Abt the othr qstn of using Petrol in Diesel vehicle n vice versa i stick to me ans....which i mentioned in earlier ...its very basic any matter in this world can not burn unless it attends its ignition temperature...n the rest phenomenon i answered it b4..

for anu querry regarding MECH-AUTOMOBILE qstn,
guys u cn snd me a PM to.

BEst of Luck

great thread.......
i have a few queries here please give the best of your knowledge with details justification:
1) -
2) -
3) Why loaders, JCB, tractors, etc have their silencer pipe towards the upward position over the vehicle while trucks, buses, cars, etc have it under the vehicle???

Because a tractor is mostly used for agricultural purpose and in fields, any spark coming out of silencer is supposed to die off soon (hence placed vertically upwards), else it could destroy the finished crops which get's dry when attains maturity. (eg. wheat crops etc).

Okay, i have one more qstn for you puys:-

Why does a tractor has smaller front wheel and a bigger rear wheel????
i want 3 good reasons.. 😉

The front wheel(s) are only for steering and holding the front end up. The back wheels supply the power and must have traction. Making them big lets them carry big tires which keeps the tractor from getting stuck in muddy fields and keeps them from slipping so easily.

Hey,

This is an interesting one...
For a manager doing his work in an org., den his entropy must be increasing, and hence so d randomness or d disorderliness.....Any explaination for this..???

Well dug this ques out from the last page.
As far as entropy is concerned make sure while answering such questions make sure u r very specific n precise wid ur wordings. Here u missed out the term 'isolated'. the entropy of n isolated system always increases. if the system is not isolated then a certain process can can result in the decrease in the entropy of the system but in turn will increase the entropy of some other system(s) in such a way that the net effect is an increase in the entropy 😃 .
Now try answering the ant Q.
another interesting Q is 'since entropy always increases, so a manager doing work in his Org must also be increasing entropy hence the disorderliness. but that's not true...or is it?"

Which temperature are you talking about?
Autoignition temperature(in degree celsius)
Petrol 246-280
Diesel 210

Flash Point
Petrol -43
Diesel >62

helo,
i m Sairam R working in a core company in banglore . i want to know which IIM offer project management or operation management . Also about courses in NITIE . What is the cuttoff for each course . i came to understand that NITIE takes cat or gate score but i wanted to know about the percentage tht is required !!

help me thru !

This thread is almost dead...

Let me ask some of my queries here.. plz share ur thoughts.

1)How do stress ans pressure differ?

2)How do torque and moment differ?

always needed such a thread..however its a little late
got FMS regret....i think its because of this simple question...
what are machines??
i told they get our job done, we achieve our objective with their help and so on...
they asked for some examples:There was AC in front of me...so i told AC...(sh*t)
panel then told that i forgot my mechanical engg and i was out in no time

Later when i wikid i found that bookish defn..power and motion transmission wala.
To my dismay while returning in bus they played the movie 3 idiots where chatur and rancho narrate the defn of machine...i was happy for the moment but realized that i had made a blunder and was really screwed.
just felt like sharing this with my fellow mechies...bottomline: its necessary to know the defn well...wtf

hey.....hahaha
sam happened to me to....they asked me what is standard time....
Just blabbered......damn ol dese small things make a big difference

hehe...kuch bhi puchte hai...and basics can cover anything and almost everything..whole engg is basics..lol
even the scheduling problm was termed as a fundamental..IIM C experience...lol
also few more quesn;
1. can navier stokes eqn be solved, justify ur answer
2. human hand is which form of lever??

Yes, these questions are answered in Mechanical Engineering

Hi guys...
Went for nirma interview a few days back....
The questions were quite different from conventional ones...
Some are...
1. What is queue theory
2. What is difference between average time and standard time(wrt queue theory only)
3. Just-in-time concept,wrt japan
4. In material science- what is lifo tifo(never even heard of these terms)
that is all i can remember.. And yeah not even single question on engine, thermodynamics, refri etc etc
so do read these off beat topics too....
All the best.....

Well "lifo fifo" (must be fifo not tifo), they stand for "lifo-last in first out and fifo- first in first out" they are different methods to schedule or queue materials in a shop floor for operations... pls google for detailed explanation...:cheerio:

some of the questions asked to me at different interviews:

1.How Can u make a pendal rickshaw more efficient in a way that the driver has to make less efforts?
2.Can gears be used in pendal rickshaws? If yes, then why arent they used?
3.What provision can u provide in a bullock cart for effective braking?
4.Can u draw a stress/strain diagram?also explain ultimate stres..etc etc!!!

@visionIIM-ACL Sir, Dormant thread with 1 odd new post. Please consider closing the thread.

can any 1 tell me which is the best book for mechanical competitions for ssc je,bel ,ongc lyk comapnies entrances,....with best brief in that book??

  • Made Easy books pacakge
  • Gate Mechanical Engg
  • R K jain
