people i am not in anyways saying or meant 'why not to join NIC/or any other insurance cos'. i was just highlighting the ground level situation which will be hidden from you. i never said anything bad abt nicl per se. i said abt psu insurer cos. infact i see it as a challenge to face such difficult situation and people in life and prove our mettle.

AO can become CMD. CMD is not IAS he is a companies employee. usually AO's only become CMD.

yes omega, u can really get good opportunities in private. many people are there who were once AO's in PSU. matter of fact is that even private companies know what high quality of exposure officers of PSU get. only thing is one should try to obtain expertise in all branches of insurance subjects.

probably nicl has arranged the interview on the basis of written marks scored, I found by analysing the interview list.... correct me if I m wrong

I don't think it is even remotely like that. There will not be any such distribution of candidates for interview as it would turn into a biased proposition on the part of interview panel. Hence, to avoid such undue benefit and undue loss of candidates on either extremes, examiners do not resort to such a step.

AO is at the bottom of the ladder of management cadre in insurance cos. he/she is responsible for functioning of his department.
what he does- depends upon the department he is looking after.
knowledge on eco-fin: not at all necessary. it is a routine office job where u'll get to learn once u began to do hands on work. knowledge of insurance will get accumulated as years go by. one cannot master even one subject of insurance over his lifetime because subject is too cast and dynamic. knowledge of eco fin will come in use if u work in investment department.
honestly i dont feel that they would ask anything from ur graduation because its practically not any worth for them. what one has studied in MBBS is not what they use at shopfloor level. what they are looking for is candidate with general ability to learn, excitement about job and social skills (say hw u speak, respond to their tricky questions). its more of a personality test than interview.
