Hello people,As the earlier number system thread had more than 10k replies,we have closed the old one and presenting to you a part 2 of the same Please continue with the discussions of Number system problems here,henceforth.Here is the link to the old thread:http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/number-system-25000852Also,for getting the concepts,here is a good thread for the same:http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/conceptstotal-fundas-25023536the official Quant thread for unsorted queries:http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/official-quant-thread-for-cat-09-ii-july-09-onwards-25042674/1605026Hope that helps.All the best puys

hey guys,

could u pls help me with how to solve 'divisible by' type questions.

I came across one while mock test. But do no't know the solution.

Please if somebody knows how to solve , state with all steps for easy understanding,

[(7^20) - 1] is divible by ?

Options were a) 8 b)15 c)17 d)both 13 and 17

Answer provided was a)8 .

But they did not provide the steps to solve.

Even their answers for most questions seems to be incorrect.

Thanks in advance.

I m graduation third year student. is there any certificate for it which I bring at CAT exam test centre pls ans me as fast as possible

while solving one problem i faced issue with this LCM formula

LCM of fractions = LCM of numerators / HCF of denominators

Method1 :

I was to find LCM of 1.2 and 2.

1.2 = (12/10)

2=(2/1)

LCM of [(12/10),(2/1)]=[LCM of (12,2)]/[HCF of(10,1)]

LCM of (12,2) = LCM of [{(2^2)*3},2]/[HCF of(2*5,1)]

But

LCM of [{(2^2)*3},2]=(2^2)*3 =12

[HCF of(2*5,1)]=1

therefore,

LCM of (1.2,2)=12/1 = 12 (which is wrong)

Method2 :

1.2 = (12/10)

2=(12/6)

LCM of [(12/10),(12/6)]=[LCM of (12,12)]/[HCF of(10,6)]

But

LCM of [12,12]=12

[HCF of(10,6)]=HCF of(2*5,2*3)=2

LCM of (1.2,2)=12/2 = 6 (which is correct)

But I did not get what wrong am I doing in Method 1 ?
