How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for the CAT by arun sharma vs Quantitative Aptitude Quantum CAT by Sarvesh K Verma. which is good in terms of concept explanation? experts pls help
Is there anyone from TamilNadu in this blog, especially from Southern TN ?
If so, pl let me know whether you are taking coaching and all.
give me some links of novel if possible.....
what is the best way to prepare for verbal ability?
@viki_cbe If you are clear with the basics, then go for Arun Sharma and if you want in depth knowledge about each topic, go for SK verma. Both are good, I personally liked Arun Sharma coz I found it concise for my purpose.
@dream_BLAC_2013 said:& 1 last question to everyone, how do you keep yourself motivated & focused for such a long time (almost 1 year till the next CAT) & not be affected by all the bad news that may follow in the intervening time period??? (like increase in weightage for non-engg, sudden change of exam pattern etc)
Change your perspective my friend. This is not bad news and nothing of this sort is going to happen all of a sudden out of the blue. All B-schools look for diversity and they would continue to do so. But at the same time you would not be rejected because you are an engineer.
As for keeping the focus and all... please start at the right time... this is one advice i give to a lot of aspirants. CAT requires you to work on your basic quantitative and verbal aptitude.. .rest all is practice.. if you start too early you would be bored much before the actual exam and this would lead to a sub optimal performance. The key is the peak at the right time - too long a prep period would lead to more stress, boredom and then lack of motivation.

@madhu.2 depends where you are right now - if you want to start working right from the basics then start reading the newspaper editorials (especially those that do not interest you) build up your reading speed, solve crosswords, read Wren and Martin for grammar. there is still a lot of time for CAT 2013 - you can work on your basics in verbal for atleast a month and then start once you feel more confident.
@ArunkumarCeg Reading... CAT unlike GRE tests a lot of contextual vocabulary... so even if you learn up a dozen word lists it is not going to help. The reading habit helps you understand the usage of words and also understand synonyms/antonyms and the ideas they are used to express... (abhorring someone is a much stronger word than hating/not liking someone). So start reading and understanding the meaning of tough words. Will come in very handy in CAT or any other similar exam
The name of the thread should be "CAT 2013 ASPIRANTS". Anyway, the spelling of PREPARATION is wrong. Mods plz make the corrections.
@DN2686 : ive already started with reading newspaper and i feel my basics are fine... i just need to know which books to refer so that i can do good in verbal ability section.
@DN2686 I am reading newspapers daily and often reading few novels. While reading something, I just assume the meaning of words that i dont know.I think this ll help me.
Tell me names of few novels to read (only science or non-fiction)
@madhu.2 Then you can refer Wren Martin for Grammar. Word power made easy, word power made handy for better vocabulary..
