hey i have a pharma background and having 7.24 cgpa with 1 yr experience at mnc company,....so can u please for which clg should i select or make a target for cat or any other competative exam
@leotheking Not at all. I do not think it will have a negative impression. Have had students who made it with similar profiles. Just concentrate on cracking the written and scoring as high as possible. cheers :)
My profile: X:85.4(CBSE) XII:80(CBSE) GradBE) 8.3 By September 2013 i will have about 15 month work ex. What should be my CAT target percentile to get calls from old IIMs?

@ibad786 ya right bt as per nw situation pg in our field is jst a formality....and i will have 1.5 yrs pharma experience till i will get crack cat...my last cat score is 74.57...
@leotheking--> Bhai what are u talking about? 😲 Please stop throwing random numbers & do a bit of LOOKING-AROUND (please!). Its practically impossible for a G+E+M to get an old IIM call at 98% (BKI MAYBE if u have a stupendous profile!!). And I don't mean it in a HEATED ARGUMENT sort of way but just in the capacity of someone who is going through the system. Especially if u are a CAT 2013 aspirant, u need to have a very clear idea of what u are getting into [if the heartbreak of all those with 99+ but NO HIGH-PROFILE CALLS till now have taught us aspirants anything]
@avatar27If u dont mind me answering buddy, with ur profile,
IIM- C --> a CAT Score of 309.84 (to be precise),which equals 99.65+ approx
IIM-A --> a CAT Score of 339.54, which equals 99.85+ surely[U are really unlucky here. If instead of 80 in class-12, u had 80.01, then ur reqd CAT score would have reduced dramatically, assuming 8.3 in grad in ur university equals 83%]
IIM-L --> Since u are G+E+M, so a score of 99.5+ would be safe. Anything less than that may be tricky as u are getting 0 marks for NOT being a GIRL or Non-Engg. 😞 So u have to capitalize as much as u can through ur CAT score to secure ur call.
IIM-B --> Very little chance. Based on this year, it seems that 90+ in 10 & 12 & 83+ in grad (for engg.) can be considered A BIT safe [This assumption based on my call & that of 2 of my friends]. If u go through the profiles of people rejected this year, u wont even feel bad about it.
IIM-K --> I think u know it pretty well yourself that almost zero chance here. 80+ in CBSE (among the most hated boards in Kozhikode along with ICSE, AP, TN) is an absolute death-knell for MALE candidates.
IIM-I --> The WEIRDEST criteria till now. They have rejected some pretty unbelievable candidates till now. But 90+ in 10 & 12 & 80+ in Engg may give u a breathing space [Again same observation as for B] Its very tricky & damning for people with NO 90% in their CV (especially for CBSE & ICSE candidates).
IIM-S --> It has a cut-off of 86.3% for Engineers (yes, absolutely stupid criteria, i know :P) which alone disqualifies MANY.
Two years drop will not be a good idea in your profile. In case you want to spend more time on preparing for B school entrance exams, you should find a job which gives you ample time, even if it's not well paying. With B com you should be able to find entry level jobs in sales or marketing. That's will also help you later on during your MBA placements. The learning will be immense if you have even an year of work experience.Almost everyone who makes it to Top B schools of the country has managed his/her time well - balancing job and preparing for B school entrance exam. In my opinion spending 3-4 hours every day even while working should suffice to crack B school entrance exam.
Plus as you mentioned, you have good academic credentials. That should make your job of juggling work and preparation much easier. Please let me know, in case you have any specific query.
Need a bit of help here. Can anyone suggest the disadvantages of a work ex of 33 months at the time of joining ?
Actually there are no disadvantages...depends on what you think is a disadvantage...The thing is if you have 33 months work ex during the time of placements there is a big chance that you might get placed back in the same sector..So if you are looking for a change in sector, you can consider this as a disadvantage..

indeed i am looking for a shift in sector, power generation industry-> consultancy ..
I am no expert, but I do not see a problem...You should be safe..for better guidance ask avinash and other experts..@avinashkrjha Sir kindly look into this query and help him out.
@patdetAs already told, if you have heavy work-ex, changing profile becomes a bit difficult. Not impossible though. You will have to give a fight for it.Only Top B-Schools like IIM A/B/C/L, XL can give you sure shot chances for Profile Change.. !!
@fardon Even If u were a General candidate, ur profile is ideal for what most IIMs look for nowadays (though u wud require considerably high score).... 😃 Considering u are an NC-OBC candidate, u will get C at 242.5 (which is very modest. I am not sure but maybe it is equivalent to 97.5+), A at 233.7 (once again, pretty easy to get!!!). B gives profile based calls (which u are sure to get). Just keep ur score 98.8 up to be super-sure.....
