IIM - A, B, C, L vs FMS-D Infrastructure and Campus life- IIMs C,A,B, L, I win hands down here. Not to say FMS-D has bad infra, you get access to the DU campus if you're at FMS-D. But IIMs-C,A,B,L, I have extremely beautiful campuses to call as their own, backed by a significant investment in infrastructure. Placements- 60–70% overlap in the firms that visit IIMs-C,A,B, L, I and FMS-D. But then there are exclusive firms that won't recruit from any B-School whose name cannot be shortened to IIM, followed by any one of BLACKI. Top Management consulting firms; IB,VC and PE firms; and some GM firms etc. I won't talk about 'Top packages' or 'Average packages' because that information is available in the public domain, and the 'top' and 'average' numbers tend to hide more than what they actually reveal. Brand Value- To me (personal opinion), IIM is a more influential brand than FMS-D. The IIM-C,A,B, L, I tag evokes a certain pull, and provides access to a legendary alumni network. This is not to say that the FMS brand is lacking in any way. FMS is a well-respected brand in the industry, and that is totally well-deserved. But post placement people tend to treat IIM graduates different than the FMS ones, which is totally not fair. Since both the graduates have slogged more or less the same. This perhaps is the power of b....ng. . ROI : People today are so focused on the initial investment that sometimes they forget to take into account what benefits they will get from b....ng and tag name. Unless you study marketing you won't be able to know the power of an established elite brand. In layman terms people drink signature instead of Jack Daniels. Both will get you high so whats the difference. Deep inside you and everyone else knows that JD is better. This deep rooted thought is because of its brand power. I wonder, why don't we ever hear about ROI or 'salary packages' from MIT Sloan or Chicago Booth? Food for thought :)
