Being the Ordinary

We are forever preached to be perfect, to be over-achieving, to be extraordinary. For years I had been an underdog, never the frontrunner in academics or extra- & co- curriculars. Funnily enough, I have always been ‘the girl with too many feet in too many places’! What did this culminate into? It made me self-defiant, with lower self-confidence; but most importantly, it never let me venture into the paradigm of self-belief.

Like thousands other, MBA seemed like an escape when I completed my Masters in Microbiology & hit a realisation that 5 years of my life aren’t contributing to what I want to do in future. Obviously, preparations started; there were bouts of angst, depression & procrastination, but it syphoned into me getting admitted to SIMSR.

For months I pondered what these sudden decisions meant. Am I too unstable & unfocussed? What do I want from my career? Is my education in Microbiology a waste? Did I spend hours practicing nail art & blogging for nothing? What will the society think? Am I a disappointment?

It took me months, terrible situations & consequences to realise that moulding yourself is perpetual, abrupt & demanding. SIMSR offered me opportunities to break my barriers & experience life like never before – & guess what? There was no looking back this time. I neither jumped leaps & bounds nor did I try to. I chose to improvise & nourish myself. Over the course of time my confidence started cementing, but the most pragmatic change happened within myself when I discovered that nothing teaches “you” better than “you”.

The society puts you in a spot & challenges you every now & then, but the biggest hindrance to personal development is none other than we, ourselves. “Everyone is ordinary” but what matters is how extraordinarily we can extricate from the ordinary. Finally, this is what I comprehend, that how you live, lead & perceive your life is solely a right of your own; you can introduce a twist, a turn or a corkscrew – all that matters is how do you build that rollercoaster & how happy you are riding it!

HUMANS OF SIMSR Because everyone has a story Chapter I Story By: Kevin Baptista Wheels of Life I started cycling a year before I joined SIMSR. It all began after a boxing match where I injured my shoulder pretty badly, and had to undergo surgeries. Naturally, after that, my mom was unhappy with the idea of me taking up a different sport - Cycling. Mumbai is not exactly the best city for cyclists. My mom was obviously concerned about my safety and explicitly asked me NOT to go because it was dangerous. She was right, of course. Mothers often are. That day, I told her, and I remember it very clearly, that I understood that I might get seriously injured again or might not even come home, but would I let something like that stop me from doing what I love? If yes, what life would I really be living? My mom never really stopped me after that day, but she prays for me. Since that day I have covered around 7000 kilometers, meeting some really amazing and interesting people on the way. Cycling has changed my life. I appreciate it more and more every day. It teaches me about life, how there might be challenges but it's our mind that can help us push through, and of course, it can make you feel really damn awesome. #HumansOfSIMSR #MasterYourFutureAtSIMSR #KnowTheSIMSRites

Here she talks about her 2 months in KDAH as an HR intern and how it went by in the blink of an eye, leaving her with clarity on her professional roads moving forward.

Namitha Roy

Why Not?

...But, why do you want to leave God's Own Country? - The interviewer looked up confused with my CV which depicted 25 years of hopping in and around Kerala.  "Why not Ma'am ?"

This question has lingered over since I hit the age of puberty(that story is for some other time).Oh yeah, I was a bit slow with my pace - I did an engineering course which has nothing to do with my kinda grey cells, I didn't have my dream job having a lump some stash in my savings account but So What? I have travelled whenever possible not the backpacking which cool people do, but the planned cancelled replanned trips which brought peace and happiness in my life while food stories for my Instagram feed. They might call it cliched, but if it brings happiness to me then Why Not ? In SIMSR, when people asked me why HR? I asked again why not? If this is what makes me happy and where I see myself making a difference then why crawl with the crowd? (Also, for one last time I repeat Rangoli is not my kind of HR aspirations even when the whole world decides to pass a comment on that, Chill.)

Not in the two digit package league yet,

I have not planned my wedding yet,

Have not done the Leh Ladakh trip yet - what's the haste for?

Mumbai coastal breeze against my face, I am living my happy phase. At the moment, doing the pending assignments, working for a committee and slothing at the hostel brings me peace. It's not a race, she believed in her hindered pace. Every being is different but it takes up the courage to Be You!

Take it easy, Urvasi ..

HUMANS OF SIMSR Story by: Richa Chaturvedi All About Your Choices Sometimes when you look back, you suddenly feel so great about the choices you made which for once or for a second you feared about, but ultimately it’s your choices that take you to places you want to go. From starting my primary education in Hindi medium school in a small district, to shifting to a new city, to facing the language hurdles, to being a laughing spot for all the sophisticated students around (who defined their sophistication by their ability to speak fluent English), to becoming the Head Girl of the same school, to moving to Delhi for an undergraduate course, to doing the craziest things in the 3 best years of my undergraduate and eventually getting a job in one of the most desired companies. Roller coaster ride indeed! But the actual battle started now. People say that when you grow up, you need to make tough decisions and to my surprise, I thought I had grown up (not by age for sure). A well-reputed job which could land me in the US in 2 years to come or a 2 year MBA program. When there were multiple opinions echoing day and night in my head about job security, future opportunities, getting married and “settling down”, I somewhere had my heart and mind on one thing and I went to the office the next day and resigned. I don’t have words to describe that feeling but that it set me free. Yes, I was finally going to do an MBA. The journey of all those nightmarish entrance exams and the taxing admission process was quite stressful. But in the middle of this, I always had this desire to study in Mumbai. Reason being – This city has got its own vibe which cannot be explained but can only be felt. That’s when KJ SIMSR happened. As I come to the end of it, I get a lump in my throat realizing that the college where I learnt a lot and laughed my heart out is about to get over but at the same time I feel so overwhelmed, both professionally and personally, to have gotten so much that there was no scope I could ask for more. In the end and not sounding too dramatic, I would just say that do not try to fit in or adjust for others’ happiness, rather find your own. And I think all this way, I found mine! #SIMSR #OptimismUnbound #MasterYourFutureAtSIMSR #HumansOfSIMSR

As someone who enjoys market research just as much she does her biryani, Anukriti shares how she rediscovered her niche and flare going forward - to now holding her pre-placement offer from EY that she could never be more glad to accept.

In an endeavour to enhance students' understanding of the real world, KJ Somaiya Institute of Management introduced a multi-terminal state-of-the-art Bloomberg Lab for Advanced Financial Research. It's a very valuable and important resource for students and faculty, particularly of the Finance specialization, as it helps to access data of all sectors for relevant analysis and research. • Through this campaign, we urge students to 'Look Beyond' and explore what a B-School has to offer over and above the core curriculum.

Adcom, result timeline please.... Can u please ask admission committee e for comments. Thanks.
