 About the Workshop
âWhen differences among people cause feelings to run high, managers need to understand the nature of these differences in order to deal with them systematically and in such a way that both corporate harmony and individual initiative are preserved.â
Warren H. Schmidt
Robert Tannenbaum
Negotiations are a part of professional life, whether it is renting office space or purchasing a scarce component from another division, building support for a new marketing plan, or working out next year's budget. In these situations and thousands like them, there are bound to be conflict of interests --- people disagree. Managers negotiate with those whom they cannot command, but whose cooperation is vital, including peers and others outside organizations. Managers also negotiate with subordinates who have their own interests, understandings, sources of support, and areas of discretion.
As the world is dynamic, the organizations ought to adapt to emerging changes for new arrangements to be negotiated and renegotiated. Negotiating is a necessary skill and it is the core of the manager's job profile. People in the organization negotiate not only to win contracts or meet sales targets, but also to guide the organization in the face of change.
As the business environment is increasingly becoming competitive and situations complex, it is critical for managers to equip themselves with negotiating skills. For a manager to be successful, it is important to develop strong negotiation skills.Â

The 8th International Conference on Finance, organized by SDMIMD on an annual basis, got off to a flying start with two inspiring inaugural addresses. Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikai of Dharmasthala and Chairman of SDMIMD inaugurated the conference with a crisp address. He stated that âThe gap between rural and urban has greatly reduced over 20 years. Apart from the basic facilities like food, water and road, we have progressed in health facilities too. The improvement in facility has made us to access information, opportunities and facilities available in the World. This has also had impact on education system. Indian institutes have challenges to match the international standards to attract studentsâ.Â
The Chief Guest and Keynote speaker Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Trichy said âIndia has seen great leap in industrial revolution during last 10 years. We have to move from manufacturing outfits of Industry 1.0 and 2.0 to Industry 4.0 and beyond. The 4th Industrial Revolution has to drive the Indian industries and parallelly we have to prepare ourselves for 5.0 revolutionâ. Further, Dr. Metri opined that the development of new technology has been a primary driver of the movement to Industry 4.0. Some of the programs first developed during the later stages of the 20th century lacked the technology needed to make their complete implementation possible. Now, Industry 4.0 can help these programs reach their full potential.Â

ECONOMICS CONFERENCE 2019Â
November 15 & 16, 2019
The trends of global economic growth reflect two contracting stories. If many of the African and some of the Asian economies failed in pulling off the much-desired growth, rise of countries like Japan, Singapore, South Korea, China etc surprised the world. India stays somewhere in between these two extremes. Development is neither universal nor uniform. In the market driven economy, the fruits of development are not distributed evenly leading to imbalanced society. The persistent economic crisis in different parts of the world has made economists to wonder whether the practicing economic growth models are potential enough to generate sustainability in growth. Economists and policy makers also ponder the question of how large is the size of trade-off between economic growth and sustainable development. Thus, the major and immediate challenge of the current century is to generate growth which is inclusive and sustainable. In order to create a better and sustainable future, Governments, Corporates and NGOs need to work collectively and playing their respective roles most effectively. In this backdrop, to provide a stimulating platform for academicians and practitioners to reflect, deliberate, and suggest measures that are needed both at macro and the micro levels to elevate India and other backward economies to higher and sustained growth trajectory, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) is organizing the international conference on âEconomic Growth and Sustainable Development- Emerging Trendsâ on November 15-16, 2019.
