Marketing Conference 2019  

 

SDMIMD organized 2nd International Conference on Marketing on Friday, October 18, 2019 on the theme Value Driven Marketing. 

Dr. Sheb True, Professor of Marketing, Interim Director – MBA Programs, Coles Colleges of Business, Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, United States, inaugurated the conference and delivered the keynote address. Dr. Sheb True said “Studying or teaching a popular course is right, but everybody will be learning the same. So, what is the differentiator? How we change what we do? Should be the focus of the institutions or university”. The address introduced various studies on the keynote topic and the speaker shared the resources for further readying. He also focused on relooking at the value created by business education and how business education is changing globally.

Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director and Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD who also spoke on the occasion said when marketing has shifted from product driven to customer driven, the discussion and deliberation on the ‘value driven’ is more appropriate as value driven is oriented for customer in a value chain.

Dr. Jayakrishnan, Conference Chair presented the theme of the conference and said over the years marketing moved from product centric era to human centric era. “Marketers need to identify, understand the anxieties and desires of the consumers to fulfil their needs. The Triple Bottom Line Concept is being embraced by several firms bringing together – economic value, environmental health and social progress. In the current changing market environment, the objective of ‘International Conference on Marketing’ is to provide a platform for the industry, marketing practitioners and academia to share their knowledge and experiences of marketing in the value driven marketing” he added.

The conference attracted more than 70 research papers on the conference theme and the papers were presented during the track sessions. Technical sessions were also part of the conference. Mr. Aditya Singh, Head – Jewellery International Business, Titan Company Limited; and Mr. Nagachethan S M, Senior Vice President &Product Head, Chaitanya (CRIDS) delivered the Technical Session Talk.

Various parameters like academic performance, performance in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are taken into consideration to draw up the final list of candidates to study in the foreign universities.

Abhigyaan2019



SDMIMD organised the annual flagship event for Undergraduates - Abhigyaan ’19, on October 10 & 11, 2019 at its campus. The two-day fest was inaugurated by Dr N. R Parasuraman, the Director of SDMIMD. 


More than 400 students from colleges across Karnataka participated in various events such as Best Manager, Best Entrepreneur, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, B-Quiz, Photography, Mad Ads, Treasure Hunt and Street Play. The sports event was introduced in this year’s fest and a cricket match was organized. The inaugural day culminated with vibrant cultural competitions such as Singing, Dancing and Fashion Show.

 

The Day-2 of Abhigyaan 2019 commenced with the final rounds of the management events. Abhigyaan was a wonderful platform for the students to showcase their managerial skills and talents. 


SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore emerged as the overall champions of Abhigyaan’ 2019. The event was organized and coordinated by the Samprati Committee of SDMIMD.


 

Inputs on 'Preparation for Interviews' by Expert


 Mr Kiran Joshi, former Career Consultant and Former Manager - Learning & Development, IIM Udaipur, delivered invited talk on 'Preparation for Interview' to PGDM 2018-20 Batch on September 23, 2019. The interaction with the speaker on various aspects of interview and interviewing was the major takeaway for SDMites. The talk concluded with Q&A. 



                                      Placements PGDM 2017-19 

SDMIMD recorded 100 percent placement . With one more month to go for the completion of the program, all eligible students were placed with the highest salary of Rs.9 lakhs, average salary of Rs.7.14 lakhs and median salary of 6.1 lakhs. The students have been placed in varied roles such as Management Trainee, Consultant, Business Analyst, Credit Analyst, Market Intelligence Analyst, Area Manager, Regional Area Sales Manager etc. It has been a stupendous performance thus far by our students, wherein the Institute has seen marquee companies visiting the campus and vying for our talents.

 5th International Economics Conference-2019

 

The 5th International Economics Conference - 2019 was organised on November 15 & 16, 2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends”. The two-day conference was inaugurated by Dr. Sébastien Chantelot, Director of La Rochelle Business School & Vice Dean-Academics of Excelia Group, France. 

In his keynote address, Dr. Sébastien elucidated that the future corporate managers need to possess the core skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, creativity, judgement and decision making, people management and coordination with stakeholders to implement sustainable business practices. He said that every company needs to justify the triple bottom line such as economy, environment and society. People, planet and profit are postulated as the central aspects of sustainability. He also raised concerns on increasing pressure on the environment and opined that sustainable development goals (SDGs) could be achieved through responsible management education. Dr. Sébastien argued for the need for industry-academia collaboration to instil sustainability practices. Further, he expressed his apprehension over ethical dilemmas and sustainability practices in business. The two-day event featured technical sessions, panel discussions and paper presentations on different issues related to the conference theme. Members from academia, industry and research scholars from different parts of the country and abroad presented 140 research papers and case studies on the theme. The conference was attended by 200 delegates. 

"IEC 2019" Valedictory Address by Mr. Viju Parameshwar The 5th International Economics Conference - 2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” was organized on November 15-16, 2019. Sri. K.R. Viju Parameshwar, Former President & CEO, Kluber Lubrication India Private Limited was the Chief Guest to the Valedictory Session. In his valedictory address, Mr. Parameshwar raised concerns on the current macroeconomy, suggested the possible policy actions for development and also predicted the future trends as well. He reiterated the statement by Milton Friedman “business of business is to make profit. Shareholder return is sole aim of business and hence business is materialistic”. The speaker was apprehensive that wage inequality was increasing, and more could be achieved only if the country is less unequal. Inequality reduces growth, undermines democracy and creates deceleration in public investment. Mr. Parameshwar ponder upon the measures to improve the economy scenario were implement social safety nets, government intervention to limit monopoly, revival of liberal Keynesian model, bring stakeholder welfare as focus of business, and capital gains to be taxed fairly. Further, he presumes that technological disruptions that are underway will affect income at bottom line. Hence, re-skill and upskill the workforce is required for sustainability. Dr. H. 8th INTERNATIONAL HR CONFERENCE - 2019 The role of Human Resources Management is currently undergoing a drastic change, from being a functional contributor towards the corporate performance to becoming a strategic and analytical partner of business decisions. Effectiveness of HRM function is being evaluated by its level of contribution towards the return on investment of any organization, by keeping the specific performance-driven goals in mind. The focus of HRM is shifting from merely addressing day-to-day issues of People Management towards future-oriented prediction-based approaches to retain the best talent for facing up to competitiveness in the business world. In the above backdrop, SDMIMD is organizing its 8th International Conference on Managing Human Resources at the Workplace, on 6 and 7 December, 2019. SDMIMD has been witnessing more than 200 participants from India and abroad, in each conference. Along with that, eminent corporate speakers also address the gathering on various relevant HR issues.

TALK BY MR. PRAMOD PADMAPRABHAIAH SDMites organized invited talk by alumnus Mr Pramod Padmaprabhaiah as part of the Prerana Alumni Lecture Series on November 25, 2019. Mr Pramod is currently working with NTT DATA as a Senior Director and heads up as Global Delivery Lead and Client Manager for Honeywell. In his talk, Mr Pramod presented the concept of ‘Gig Economy’ and explained how small activities become a part of Gig Economy extending a monetary benefit. Mr Pramod mentioned that scaling some activities in terms of monetary value can be a complex task at times and the law-making bodies find it difficult to make policies for these. It is believed that 2023 over 6 million people will be a part of the Gig Economy. The speaker explained how Bloggers, Youtubers, Craftspeople, Stack photographers, Freelancers, Software and Web designers constitute and influence Gig Economy. Further, he touched upon the characteristics of the Gig economy with examples of ‘Kaggle’ and ‘Amazon Mechanical Turk’. The talk concluded with the discussion on the four major connections in the Gig Economy i.e. Place, Routines, Purpose and People.

  

Invited Talk on Indian Macroeconomy and Investment Scenario

 

Mr. Bharathram Lokkur, Director, Lokkur Investment Advisors Private Limited was invited as a Distinguished Speaker to a technical session of the 5th International Economics Conference-2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” November 16, 2019. Addressing the conference delegates, Mr. Lokkur gave a snapshot of the current scenario of Indian economy and the slowdown. The speaker highlighted the growth of market cap and wealth creation for the shareholders. He talked about the dynamic nature of equity markets and various factors affecting it, opining that markets look at the future. He also emphasized on the necessity of corporate governance to build investors’ confidence; thereby raising capital and growth of the industry & economy.

ACBSP The research paper 'Impact of work experience on factors influencing the choice of B-school' by Ms Riju Mittal of PGDM 2017-19 was selected for presentation at the ACBSP Conference 2019 held at Texas, Houston on the theme 'The Art of Developing Entrepreneurial Leaders' with sponsorship to attend the conference.

The selection was made in the ACBSP Region 10 (South-Asia Council) Fall Conference on the theme ‘Transforming Students Success through Recruitment, Retention, and Re-entry’ held during November 15 & 16, 2017 at SDMIMD Mysore.

Panel Discussion on “Sustainability & Business Economy” 

 As a part of the 5th International Economics Conference-2019 on the theme of “Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends” held on November 15-16, 2019 a panel discussion was organized. The topic was ‘Sustainability & Business Economy’. Dr. Gavin Melles, Professor of Sustainability, Swinburne University, Australia, Dr. Rajagopal R, Founder & CEO, KnowGenix, Mumbai and Ms. Jyotsna Belliappa, Head- CSR Assurance at BlueSky were the expert panel speakers. The panelists highlighted that the Indian corporates possess adequate knowledge about sustainability and CSR, but they also need to invest in their systems and people. The transformation of CSR from a philanthropic perspective to a sustainability was also discussed and the panelists opined that CSR should be more from a humanitarian perspective than a business practice. The discussion was moderated by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor-Marketing at SDMIMD.
