The Early Action round application deadline is a couple of weeks away, and then the wait for interview calls begins (for those who have not signed up for a self-initiated interview). Whether you are visiting Hanover or are invited for an interview by the Admissions Committee after submitting your application, here are some invaluable tips from Senior Associate Director of Admissions, Pat Harrison. Read on.
Even if you haven't bothered reading any post on this thread so far, please do read this one. The "tricky situations" are ones that I've heard numerous times from prospective applicants - getting a recommendation from someone other than the current supervisor, lower than anticipated academic performance, etc. I've always told everyone - it's best to communicate any and all of your concerns directly to the admissions committee through your application.
The Tuck Admissions Committee has tremendous respect for the efforts being taken by each and every applicant who applies to the school and every application gets due consideration. The key is to explain your specific situation clearly. Here is Associate Director of Admissions, Kristin Roth, exhorting applicants to tackle these tricky situations head on.
Great to meet a number of you in Bangalore yesterday. Hope you got a feel for Tuck. For as yet unanswered questions, feel free to connect on this forum. Good luck with the applications!
No one gets left behind at Tuck. You don't need to be a finance wizard to find jobs in finance. The network and the community make it happen. Check out for instance, the student-run Wall Street Edge program that strives to deliver opportunities in finance to students who're not necessarily from that background.
After Praveen Kopalle's mock-class session in late August, Tuck is back in Mumbai this weekend. The Tuck Admissions reception is in Taj Mahal Palace, Colaba from 7 - 9 PM on Saturday, Sept 27th. Come a bit earlier so we can chat informally before the session begins. The MBA Tour's business school fair is on Sunday, Sept 28th from 3 - 5 PM at Taj Land's End, Bandra. Look forward to interacting with prospective applicants at these two events.

Tuck events in Mumbai over the weekend were great - both the Tuck reception and the MBA Tour's business school fair. The plethora of questions from attendees notwithstanding, it's always a pleasure to share my Tuck experiences. It's a place that more than delivers every bit of the life-changing experience that MBA aspirants hope for. On to Chennai tomorrow for the final business school fair at Taj Coromandel. Tuck will be at the fair from 8-10 PM. Look forward to meeting the prospective applicants there.
One of the most frequent questions applicants have asked me during conversations is regarding Tuck's position on applicants who are passionate about social enterprise and social entrepreneurship. To reiterate my answers, Tuck embraces them! Just read this link below:
The Chennai MBA Tour is behind us. September was full of trips to various cities and answering questions posed by prospective applicants at Tuck events and business school fairs. Thanks to everyone who showed up to learn more about Tuck. With the Early Action round deadline coming up in a week, here's wishing the very best to all the applicants. Put your best foot forward and let your application do all the talking!
The many prospective applicants I've been talking to have posed fairly similar questions regarding how they can get involved in activities and contribute to the school once they're students. Case in point: Diversity Conference at Tuck. Read the following post that describes a current student's views on putting things together for this year's Diversity Conference.
1. How can I send official transcripts to the school?
2. Do I need to send Degree and all semester mark sheets? I received a cumulative marksheet in the end of my degree which contains all the courses taken in the degree. Can I send it instead of sending each of the semester mark sheets individually?
3. What is the right way to send unofficial transcripts? Can I simply scan the originals and upload?
Vijay Govindarajan or VG as he is called, is Tuck's resident teacher-philosopher, is in the top 3 of the Thinkers' 50 and is a Management Guru who is sought after by business leaders from all over the world to help them think through innovation and strategy. He is extremely passionate about India and its potential. The whole idea of Reverse Innovation is something he and Jeff Immelt from GE discussed in their seminal article in HBR. Here is VG discussing Mangalyaan and what it teaches about India's capabilities.
For those of you who have been clamoring for more details about how Tuck supports students pursuing non-traditional careers, here is a first-person account from a recent entrant into the Tuck MBA. There have been other posts on this thread where I've highlighted initiatives like Tuck GIVES. The current post should set to rest, all your questions, if any still linger!
And for those of you who keep wondering about how can students pursue their own career paths if in case they don't want to go down the beaten track of interviewing with companies that come on campus - or even if they come on campus later in the year, you want to get a leg up by getting to know the alums and partners in those companies by meeting them ahead of time - wonder no more! Here's the scoop on a trek that happened just last week for the T'16s who are just about a month old in their life at Tuck.
For applicants who are considering going to business school with a family in tow, Tuck is one of the most welcoming communities for partners and children. Tuck Partners Club is integral to all the activities that go on at Tuck. Any Tuck event is incomplete without the participation of partners. Tiny Tuckies (kids of Tuck students) have their own club and a number of kid-centric activities - including Halloween, which is right around the corner - are an essential part of the Tuck experience. For more insights, all you have to do is click on the link below!
Tuck from the perspective of an international student - very pertinent to all the Indian applicants to the Tuck MBA. Here's a T'16 sharing his candid thoughts about his experience at Tuck over the last few weeks.
To the numerous applicants who have asked me how Tuck approaches teaching in the classroom, here's a recapitulation:
In addition to case studies, a typical Tuck course is replete with lectures and visiting executives and corporate leaders sharing their insights and experiences; research-to-practice seminars emphasizes very close-knit interactions with faculty; independent studies enable the student to pursue her/his topic of interest exclusively for the duration of the quarter (or more)... the list goes on and on.
Here's Associate Dean Matt Slaughter explaining how faculty approaches teaching at Tuck. The school firmly believes the process of investigation and discovery is as important as getting the right answer. The journey is what makes the destination exciting!
