But at this moment of recession, I am quite scared about preparation of CAT or other exams on quitting job.
For me to prepare with job will be quite tough, because they suck me out for atleast 12 hours daily, after that sincere preparation is not at all possible.
I need suggestion, after 2 years of experience in IT field, with B.Tech in electronics and communcation stream, which B School should I opt for so that my work experience could add to my MBA.
I had prepared for CAT in 2006, but some 70 percentile, which weren't sufficient to be in good B School.
After doing B Tech from some unrecognized college, now I dont want to do MBA from some unreputed college, definitely my goal is top 25 B Schools.
From today if I see, some 5 months are only left, will I be able to make it, I means would be feasible, how much effort shall I need to put to make it, Ofcourse nothing is impossible, but then also will 5 months preparation will help, i am ready to join some coaching too for it, previously when I was doing my degree, I had joined Career Launcher.
So finally shall I quit the job or should I stick to job in this moment of recession, or shall go for MBA next year, but then also I would be just making it late.
I have heard this is the best time to go for MBA, as after 3 years when my MBA will be completed, market will be very good.

Hey, This year the CAT would be in the month of December so you have an extra month of preparation Give other exams too and there are some good schools lined up for you if you prepare well and score decently in these exams. You can consider quitting if you want to prepare furiously for this year, maybe you could quit by September, so you would have two months+ for preparation and can score well, also side-by prepare for the GD-PIs.
I am a Elect. Engg 2007 pass out from the one of the reputed Engg college from punjab. As of now i am working with L&T; - ECC Div (Electrical Construction) in Abu Dhabi; the work life here is too hectic, generally we use to have a minimum 13-14 working hours a day n six days a week & most the time the weekend is also a working day. Now i have completed 2 yrs with the company thus succesfully completed the service bond signed by me with company to serve it for a minimum period of 2 years.
Basically i am MBA apirant who want to pursue MBA from some good B-School in US or Europe; with my current work profile i am not able to get time to prepare for GMAT or CAT, so i am now planning to quit my job & start preparation of GMAT on Regular basis; since we have a family business relevant to construction only i can manage to show the work experience of the later part in our own pvt firm. Also there is no issue regarding funding of my MBA.
I need ur guidance in this regard what shall i do???? Is my decision of quiting the job is gud enough???? Whether it will hinder my chances to get into top B-Schools in US?????

hello friends, Myself shashank, working for an IT company in B'lore from past 2 years. Am sure that many puys might have asked this same question before. I want to do MBA in a good BSchool. But i can't do 2 things at a same time, ie., work and study. So i've decided to quit job this december and want to dedicate 1 complete year for CAT-10. I want to improve myself in all possible ways in this span of time, because am a very slow learner, and i don't want to be dumb after joining the BSchool. But my friends are discouraging me telling that, if i leave job @ this time then ill repent in future. I am really confused about this. Please can you people tell me whether my decision is right? Waiting eagerly for your valuable replies....
thanks, shanky

However surviving easily in current firm too. 2 years for this job will be completed in coming month july.
Joined this forum, quite obvious, i m looking for doing an MBA.

Hi
Welcome to the club.As you can see,its a problem common to people who are working(especially in IT sector).Leaving the job to prepare is not the most prudent thing to do,since there is no guarantee of getting in a sufficiently good b-school in this attempt(because even if u get a gud enough score, there are factors like gp/pi/essay/profile etc, which costitute the parameters for selection).I understand its pretty hard slogging 12 hours at office and then studying.I know this because I am in a similar situation. But if you want something badly enough, you have to make the extra efforts for it.You can probably try studying early in the morning or maybe squeeze in an hour at office in the day. All said and done.its upto you to make it happen. All the best.

Good. but i think u are being bit pessimistic here by telling top 25 B skools even before u could take up tests...well what i say is prepare sincerely without thinking of any b skool your aim for now should be cracking CAT and other entrance tests looking at ur percentile i can say u have potential which u need to tap just try sincerely and give ur best

5 months 3 hours a day..( even in office u can do bit of study..like VA ) and practising math and DI may pretty well fetch you 99+ all u need is consistance in studying :)

do not quit job its utter madness...just prepare sincerely this year...

we cannot be sure if market will be good...it may so happen that it deteriorates even more...
but being optimistic we hope it will be fine for us 😃

From the Hindu link that you quoted: "The test will be conducted in a window of about 10 days, some time at the end of this calendar year." This definitely doesn't imply that it will be held in december for sure. Please refrain from making your own generalisations and misguiding newbies.
Please look into the IIMB notification carefully. It mentions no such thing.

But it doesn't even surely rule out that it won't be in December. But 'end of the calender' year does mean that it would be in December and 'some time' means at any time in December, it isn't a generalization in any manner. Well, anyway the notification will be out soon. I regret it seemed misleading in any manner.

It could also be taken to mean that it can be in november. All I meant was lets not speculate. Peace

i made a mistake in the previous post "if i am not preparing for cat" is to be replaced by "if i am not doing any job " guys pls suggest
All of the above are great ideas and just the stuff one needs to make justifiable use of the free time.Take up one at a time, and lets see how it goes. All the best.

Hi, plz help me out, I have passed BE(mech) this yr, had a 95%ile in cat08 and an IRMA final convert, all geared up for cat09. I want to fill the coming months with relevant work experience. I have the following options 1> a job offer from a steel comp as a trainee ( petty salary, 3 yr bond) 2> an offer from a national level coaching insti for engg prep as a faculty ( good moolah) 3> have cleared a couple of PSU writtens and the interviews are lined up . Due to monetary factor i'm inclined towards the coaching job, also i have run my own insti during my engg studies so i think i'll be able to justify it as my long term plan. I would like to know that do the IIMs and other top institutes consider a teaching experience relevent. Have ppl with this kind of experience made it in the past It wold be great if some seniors could throw some light
