Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Please help me !

I just have one dilemma. I am working in a reputed firm. JOined in June 2008.Gave cat two times. This time i plan to give it a full swing. But with the amount of hectic work pressure i plan to resign in september. About to give my paper this month . so tha i can concentrate on cat from AUGUST onwards. WOuld that prove to be a negativ eimpact during the interview ? i am confused.Someon please help me. But i am desperate enough to give full effort in cracking ccat and gettin into a b school.I am also good in communication skills as i think it is my strength where i can really do well in GD. Also i am writing CAT, XAT JMET IIFT also. But i am confident of scoring well. My only dilemma is ..the interview stage whether quitting the job in this september would be seen as NEGATIVE OR NOT ?

Does anyone knwo any people from the past who have quitted their jobs and gave cat and converted into a b school? Please reply

Do you have any back up plans incase u dont get into college of your choice? Think over it.
U should not get discouraged if some thing unwanted happens.
Try if they can grant u some leaves.. may be Loss of Pay.
If your score was good last two times(above 90 percentile) u appeared then put down ur papers but getting job is really difficult in todays reason.
Its ur call to decide wat to do
ALL the best!!

Renuka as u said my percentile last time was around 95, my dilemma is not about whether to resign job or not , but my dilemma is if i regining the job would it be considered a s a negtive impact..meaning i am not able to manage pressure tats why i ahve resigned..things like that ...... am talking in the interview stage..u knwo anyone who has done that....please reply ..or anyone !

It does matter at the GDPI stage... but it can be overshadowed if u have a gud %ile....so focus on getting a gud %ile and everything will automatically fall in place...

"Why did you resign?" this Q. will be asked to u in your interview.
at that time i feel u should not tell them that u resigned as u were not able to manage pressure as u r applying for a management course which expects u to do multi tasking.
If u say this it may create a negative impact.
Why not tell them something else, like u have some domestic issues, health issues etc which should sound realistic

I agree to it. Hope with a good percentile i can also justify why i have rsigned from the firm and can turn that aspect into a positive aspect. But the most important thing is to get a very good percentile in the Exams.

Ya.. but i can also attribute to the fact taht i resigned the firm to put more focus on cat since i came so close last year.. I can also say this indicates my risk taking ability and my confidence. I can also say its the passion that i have towards management and getting into a good b scholl has nmade me to take this decision.

All this being sadi keeping in mind the high marks in written examination.
Does that sound right at the time of interview ?

Sorry for contradicting above post...
i had posted the same query few days back...and even though everyone on pg and friends told me not to quit..i couldn't bear the job(a big s/w firm in Blore) and finally resigned...
results - got a call from almost all instis...XL,FMS,IITs,NM,IIFT...but 0 converts(NM,IIFT convert few days back..i.e. a very high waitlist rank)

acc to me biggest -ve was leaving job..plus after all rejects I had nowhere to go..no job...no college...was a nightmare...

there could be many other reasons for rejects..but then leaving job would definitely impact your interviews...either you should have something out of world(achievements or speaking skills) or solid reasons to defend it...

few options that i figured out were - if you've family business or someone known to you has his business..and it's good enough..u can join that..u'll hv flexibility to study and u can gain the relevant work ex...
or apply to some other company(chances low of this working)

In short..leaving job is NOT a good option...it DOES impact interviews..atleast gives a negative impression for sure..

This is all my personal opinion...no intention to demotivate..and i do understand how life is in a job which u hate...believe me..life jobless is much worse...
---------------
updated after last post...no doesn't display risk taking ability..you'll hv to search for more solid reasons..my XL%ile =99.51, FMS=99.625..i think it's decent if not high...

I would agree with what you have written, considering I did the same. And if you can explain this with a lot of conviction, im sure with a good profile it wont hamper your chances of converting the call.

Dude its kind of an awakening call.. Having read your post i am really ina worry right now .... But my position is i have 15 months of workk exp till september. Tht means till september end i am with the firm. I am quitting only after september. So the exams are in november, december and january. I dunno why this would be such a bad impact during the intervie (agian keeoing in mind a good written score ..)

Just to clraify: i had left the job in december..it was only 2 months after leaving job tht i had IIFT interview and 3 months for XL,FMS..(much later than september that you plan to quit)

why a bad impression..i've analysed a lot..in short what interviewer has in mind is
1) if this person can't handle his personal life...how can he manage whole company..if things were not going fine in his job..he ran away instead of fighting it...what good he can bring to company if he's a manager(not my opinion..opinion of interviewers)...
2) he is speaking about risk..if he becomes a manager later..he might take uncalculated risks again..that would be disastrous!also he might not plan for a goodbackup...disaster!

things like that.don't take anything personally...i'm just telling my experience...rest is upto you to decide...%iles help only to an extent..

everything here is a personal opinion...no guarantees..you might find people with reverse opinion..both opinions are right! you need to choose your own path...

Hi puys. i m a lawyer working in a law firm in Mumbai. I have completed my law this year and have been working for 3 months. During my final year I enrolled with IMS for CAT 08, but fared very badly with a meagre 56 percentile. I had no time for CAT prep due to my law college studies and assignments, as I was then in the final year. Maths is my weakest subject as for five years I studied humanities and procedural laws.

Now I have enrolled for CAT 10 course with TIMES(Mumbai) weekend batch. Now i can grasp all the fundamentals properly and also can understand my mistakes. I also intend to give the CAT09 too and also XAT 10. my job timings are not allowing me to prepare for CAT. I have to put in a daily of 12 to 14 hours of work. And at the end of the day I am too exhausted to study. I want to crack CAT dis year, as that would be gud for me, instead of waiting for next year. CAT10 coaching enrolment was sort of a backup plan.

My question to you puys is as to whether I should leave my current well paid job and concentrate fully on CAT or do you have any other suggestion for me?

My Profile:
10th- 79%
12th- 64%
LLB(Hons)-69%, 3rd Rank
Consistent in academics as well as co curricular activities.

Please guys do help me out.

Regards

SG

I think you should continue with job and study simultaneously. Quitting job may create a negative impression about u and your 3 months exp after u quit job will not be counted as enough!!

Hi guys, can anyone tell me how to document entrepreneurial work experience? I have been operating my own business online for a year now (full-time), but need to know how I can show this in GD/PI. Does my business need to be incorporated for it be to be counted as valid work experience? Knowledgeable people, please advise!

anyone heard of EDI Ahemadabad??

Hello puys...Am a 2008 engineering graduate 4m a non IT background n was selected in an IT company as well as a core company 4m my field...I joined the core company(faaaaaaar away 4m my hometown) but had to leave the same after 5 months coz o some personal reasons n cudnt get another gud job after that coz o recession..I started my CAT prep 3 months back..Now i m xpecting joining from this IT company within a month or so..So,m in a dilemma now...
Negatives of joining
1. Being 4m a non IT background, how hard will it b 2 work in a software firm? This is the biggest confusion...
2. My preparation will definitely suffer(I will have 2 put in xtra efforts even to just survive in the company)
3. There is a bond period.( I don't think this 2 b a big issue vaise...Is it??)
Positives
1. Pressure on D-day will be far less as compared to "CAT yaan berozgaari"
2. Work-ex
3. Learning opportunity
4. Will have a gap of 8,9 months in profile as compared to 15,16 months with a valued experience o working in an MNC...
I am not able 2 frame a clear picture in my mind as to wat 2 do coz o these doubts...i am 70-30 towards joining..Your inputs will b valued...

You can get ur joining date extended.... say...on some medical grounds.
Finish up this CAT season & then join the s/w firm.... this way u will be in a win win situation.

Hi,

I'm a Software Engineer, I have planned to do my Post Graduate Diploma course from Symbiosis Distance Learning Institute and have opted for International Business(It's a combo of Marketing, Finance and Human Resource) specialisation.

I don't see much people who have opted for the same specialisation. Some people said that in India, that specialisation doesn't have much value.

I'm very confused with my decision. Please guide me on this and reply me ASAP because i can still change my specialisation if i don't want to.

Will be eagerly waiting for your reply.

Thanks in Advance

Actually thats the main problem...I think this call s gonna b like join or deny...No xtension...Not sure regarding this, but think this is gonna b the case...
