... 1. Being 4m a non IT background,how hard will it b 2 work in a software firm?This is the biggest confusion...
Since the software company has shown interest in taking you, this shouldnt be a cause of concern. And even if you dont know if software interests you at this stage, it would not be a bad idea to join and see it for yourself .. plus it will serve as a backup and add to your experience.
well you have also mentioned about a bond. Considering you are also an MBA aspirant, this is something you might want to find out more about...
Yar I need a very sincere advice on a critical issue. I have graduated in Bsc(Hons) Computer Science and have scored good marks this year. Now that I have graduated I am looking for a job preferrably in the IT sector. However due to the economic crisis as you can imagine getting a job is even more difficult than getting a girlfrient :) But I have somehow manged to get a job in the Commonwealth games organizing committe in the field of IT projects only. Although everything is decent, the job shall be till 2011 only. Will my work experience be considered by the IIM's should I bell the cat this time or in future. How robust would it be in comparison to the "MNC work ex" Will this exp come in handy during job shifts etc. ?
Hey everybody...I'v started my preparartion for CAT since a few days..here is my academic profile..: 10th - 86 12th -68 BE - 68 (till 3rd year) category - Physically disabled
I'v posted a few times on other threads, but nobody bothered to reply! Given my bad acads, will a good score in CAT fetch me a call from the IIMS? Do reply guys..I'm waiting here!! thank u..
Need a sincere advice here......I have been taking CAT for the last 3 years..with me putting my best performance last time by securing 94+ pc.(Screwed VA alone tht costed the whole). I was all set for this time when I came to know tht I would have to travel onsite for 3 month stint.....I wud be returning just a week b4 CAT.....given the fact tht I already have 3.5 yrs of workex by this year and assuming I postpone my preps by 1 more yr in the worst case, how reasonable is it for me to try pursuing for 2 yr PGP programme from one of top 10 instis.......would nt 5 yrs of experience(which I will have by then) be too much for a 2 yr prog.....considering it is predominantly targetted for frehsers/0-3 workex range........... Also I heard tht securing a placement from a 2yr PGP wud be quite onerous 4 ppl with more exp(5 yrs) are not preferred in Bschool placements....How true is this
Desparately need an advice on this Thanks very much in anticipation:grin:, Techno

Hello dude. Hope you are doing fine. :)
Now for your query. 'Bad acads??' Your acads are quite good. Okay, 12th marks may not be excellent, but there is absolutely NO need to get depressed. 10th marks are very good. BE is also okay. I have seen people with similar or even poorer(yes, poorer) acads getting into IIMs. Its just their passion and dedication, which helped them overcome their difficulties. Dont give up man. You can surely do well in CAT. and get a call from IIMs. Maybe not from the top IIMs(especially A & B), but a few IIMs definitely, if you score high in CAT.
me just fresh passout engg. like any other fresher join delay ,, now cat is in nov.. end,, will it b good too take a simole job which is available like teaching n go for the kill parallely... waiting 4 reply
@satwinder:Thanks for the reply there buddy.that was a morale booster.by the way,is the pwd reservation going to be of much help?
Well, I dont have much idea about pwd reservation, to be frank. But I know that you have to get a decent score, even for pwd, to get into an IIM, as no. of seats are very less. But, with your hard work, I dont think you will have any problem, getting through. :)
you can check this thread, but there is not much information here.

Sure, why not.
Its better to take up any job, than sitting idle at home.
hello to all those experienced people. My profile: CBSE Xth - 86% CBSE XIIth - 85%
DCE - Mechanical - 71.6% agg (1st to 5th sem)
Presently about to start 7th sem mechanical in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE). My placement season has started. Maruti is visiting campus on 6th august. Its offering Rs. 4.22 lpa during training and then Rs. 5 lpa after absorption. Its categorized as an A+ company by our placement cell. If i appear for maruti and get selected, then my placement season is over(bcoz i can then sit in only a SUPER grade company which r not expected to come during recession period). Now, i have joined CL this year and preparing for CAT. But, with my current level of preparations, i'm not sure i'll get through. So, i aim to pursue MBA from a good college (IIMs/FMS/XLRI/SPJain/Symbiosis/MDI/IMT and like that) within the next two years. My question is: Should i join maruti and will i be able to prepare for CAT along with the maruti job??
NOTE: A plus point : I stay in delhi, and with maruti i'm most likely to be placed in Gurgaon or Manesar (nearby to delhi - 1.5 hr journey) + Good brand name
Minus points: Very rigorous job profile.
Should i wait for PSUs or consultancy?? Is it easier to prepare for MBA in such firms.???
PLZ PLZ reply soon.
An old saying but well suited in this case .. A bird in hand is better than two in bushes ! Take the offer now and start preparing for CAT....

While nobody can truly predict 100%, but yes, ppl with 5 yrs exp in b-schools find tough.. With that exp., 1 yr programs at diff. schools are better option !

as for cut-offs, that changes every year, I dont know about pwd cut-offs, sorry. But on googling, I saw it was 78.9 percentile overall for CAT 2008.
All the best.
Thanks der buddy..started my prep now..and ridin on a high..cos managed a 99.8pcile in verbal section in the last aimcat!..working on my other sections too
I am preparing for CAT 2009. This is my 2nd attempt. I got 90%ile in cat 2008. I got placed in 2 reputed software companies during my engineering. But as of now , no sign of joining( Thanks to recession). One of the companies is expected to give joining around nov-dec. Meanwhile I have been trying for other companies. I got an offer from another company which is a telecommunication and networking company. It is offering a good package - 3.5 lpa. But the profile doesn't seem to be very convincing though. The profile that i am being offered is that of an associate engineer- Technical support. Is it worth joining???
Also, the main reason why i started my job search rather than waiting for joining from the companies i got placed in was that just sitting at home was creating an undue pressure on me because of the unpredictable nature of competitive exams.
So, what do you all suggest? Should i join the telecomm company? ( Considering the fact that i am basically from Computer background- Btech computer). Also, there is no bond in this company.
i think u shud join d company.. ppl are not getting joining dates ..infact even im not getting my joining date from hexaware ..these are bad times...we need to ride them out..i have joined my family business for the time being..i hate it tho...ur also getting a good package.. i really dont know how will IIMs view this gap cuz they themselves know whats happening... but i suggest u join even if its a decent profile ...
@ Rohit & amit: Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions. @ Rohit: Hope you too get your joining date soon.. Times are tough.. But I guess IIM professors would be smart enough to understand the situation. So gain as much experience and knowledge from your business as you can. And simultaneously keep giving your best to cat prep.
Hi everybody, I graduated in B.Tech(Information Technology) from Anna university in 2008...My profile is as follows,
X - 85.1% XII - 95.6% UG - 76% with no history of arrears.. In the meanwhile I wrote my GRE, applied for some univs and got admit from Georgia Tech for MS in Computer Science..I had got a job during campus placements in Cognizant...I resigned with a work exp of 7.5 months to join Georgia Tech but in the last minute my visa got rejected...I did quite a lot of browsing till now and found out that MS could only act as a very expensive redundant degree to my undergraduate and doing an MBA is a far better option and put me in the right track...I have decided to take up CAT SNAP and JMEt this year....but i found out from PG forums that a drop for CAT is considered extremely negatively by the panelists....what should i answer if they ask me "Why this 1 year gap?" during PI? Should i tell my experience as such.? Or should i search for some software jobs and do my CAT prep simultaneously along with work(even though the pay wont be anywhere near as my first job)? Plz advise..

There are people who have made it to top B-schools with record similar to yours, hence don't lose hope and keep up your prep.Do leverage whatever experience you have and try to make gainful use of whatever time you have left now by either getting a job or doing certifications in any relevant field(like for example, for an MBA in Fin,do NCFM certis and trade in markets,if you can). Its not going to be easy, but it will always be worth it in the end. All the best.
