Hi,

It would be helpful if anybody can advise.
Hey Guys,

I was a BDM at Indian IT Major. Few days back, i left my job for better opportunity. Yes better in terms of Geography i was handling( I had huge health issues during past one year of my stay at this city), better in terms of quality of customers (No marquee clients in my territory).
I asked for a relocation but was turned down. I had a decent achievement in spite of recession etc.
So i made up my mind and put in paper few days back. 15 days.
I have moved to my wanted city now and searching for a job here.
I regularly get calls, but i face some issues.
1. Why change job? My honest answers fail to convince.
2. When i say i can join immediately, they raise eyebrows and dig why i left my Co. (Feel i was laid off).
3. When i say i have left my Co. they treat me with raised eyebrows; even this happens at the start of selection process.

So i request you all to chip in with your views and suggestion to tackle this issue. How should i tell them that i have left my Co? How should i convince that i have left gracefully?

This is a tricky situation and I completely understand as I have faced it...
the worst question is "if you quit gracefully then why dont you ask your previous company to take you back?"

If your honest justification fails to convince then it makes perfect sense to (not necessarily lie but) make up some story around the circumstances that has better chances of getting accepted ....

And besides even if they think you are laid off, in current scenario even competent people are laid off .. so no need to feel ashamed or something although that is not the case .. i assume that even recruiters should be understanding that...

When I was preparing, the challenge was not being in touch for a long while but that one wud hv a worn out body to start reading s'thg at end of day, and on weekends one wud just wanna catch up with sleep or watch a movie than to study GMAT books... :-)
but believe me, once u start with books and if u hv passion, u wud be able to crack it.. dont worry, every year lots of folks like u and me crack GMAT and with much better scores...

i am chetan ,and currently caught up in a catch 22 situation. i am in 4th year at mnit jaipur and am writing cat this year . had join time , getting 96-98 percentile constantly .

but yaar , i dream of getting into iim's only :w00t:, can increase my percentile but had to sacrifice my college studies . our placements had also strarted, (computer student) but i doesn't want to go into software. i curse myself why i had choosen this branch.

i hav scored 84 in 10th(2002) , 88 in 12th(2005)...drop !!!!!.
in college i hav no backlogs, and my cgpa is 8.11/10 after 3rd year.

but it is on decrease mode from 8.56 to 8.11 . now i got up screwed in my 1st mid term of 7th sem , was very ill.

now the dilemma is ,apart from this mene KADDU ME KOI TEER NAHI MARA.
sud i go for job , also increasing my cgpa in 4th year , and then next year give cat with also work experience to count .but then i hav to go either army(5 year bond ) or software job(it will suck me down.)

Hello everyone:) PG is a grt place to be!

I have been working in TCS for the past 11 months. I am currently in a prod support project in Bangalore. I am a Maths grad from St. Stephens DU.
The thing is i am not very satisfied with my work. The environment in my project gets really irritable at times. Moreover i am not very comfortable working in shifts. And I really wanna go in for further studies as soon as possible.I have been taking CAT for the past two yrs, this will be my third attempt. I have been scoring consistent above a 96+ in my mocks this season. My mom insists me to come back atleast 2 months before CAT, even i feel that i could really make it this tym if i get that time.
Even if i do not make it to a Bschool this yr, i would wanna do my post grads in Eco/Stats starting next yr. I could look at some short term courses offerred by DU till june next yr, there's one on Gender n Society followed by n NGO placement starting mid sept.
Or i could nyway continue here till april next. I need some advice from you guys on this..i m really confused!
Thanks!!

my work is a bit tedious and stagnant after a little bit of excitement.

Hi,

It's me, Arfeen. Working as a software engineer.
Having three years of experince in IT industry with web development.
Worked on ecommerce and banking project.

I am new to this forum. So don't know much about the right places to ask this query.

Please forgive me if i am posting it at wrong place.

Well, i did BTech in 2006. Already prepared for CAT in 2006-2007 but just able to secure 76 percentile in that.
So didn't go for this.

Now i want to do MBA.

My query is whether it's good to do MBA through correspondence?
Or should i wait and prepare for other colleges entrance exam to do live MBA?

Please tell me some good institution (for live and corespondence as well) and course to adopt as per the experience i am having.

hello all. greetings to everyone...

my problem is listed below :

- i have graduated in the month of june from a good engg. college in delhi.
but my aggregate is way below average. just above 50%.
- i had to drop an year for the preparation after 12th standard. plus due to some problems, i had to drop out for an year while doing my engineering also. that gives me a 2 year gap. i passed out from 12th standard in 2003.
- besides a fairly ok 12th aggregate (87%), 10th standard (77%)... i dont have much to show for my academic background.
- i have some extra curricular credentials but not something to boast about.
- i am an SC candidate.
- i have planned to work for sometime before doing my MBA.
- i was disappointed to see that FMS has eligibilty criteria as 55% (after relaxation).
- i am not too keen on doing an expensive MBA. but would like to do it from a good institute. maybe something like MBE or even better.
- my english is fairly good but maths requires a lot of work from my side.
- i do not want to get into any technical job domain . i am more interested in creative fields. or maybe something like marketing, advertising, HR.

what do you guys suggest should my modus operandi?
and what are some good institutes i can zoom in on?

thanks for all your consideration and time.

Banking and then MBA is a smoother career transition than MBA after B Tech. But if you are interested in doing Electronics core job then go ahead and search for related jobs. But banking is a good choice of field to do before MBA. It won't affect, rather it will boost your future MBA prospects.

Hi guys,

I am a 25 yr old who has been working in our family run business concern for the past 5 years, Our concern is not registered, so I don't think it would count as work experience. I would like to pursue MBA. What are the chances that the past five years "gap" would affect my future Job seeking prospects. My primary reason for doing MBA is to move to another field, so if I can't find a good job because of the past 6 years (by 2010 it would be 6 years), then I wouldn't want to do MBA at all.

How difficult would it be for some one to switch fields and start an MBA based career?

Puys,

Has anyone heard about - .Indus valley partners

How is the company?

Hi Puys,
I work as a consultant for a US based portal. I write on a freelance basis for them and am paid for my work every month. How should I mention this while applying for the CAT?
I started this job after graduation.

Any help appreciated.

Depends on what kind of concern is your family business. You definitely can not totally ignore those 6 years and start your career like a fresher. You must showcase some value from that experience. Put some thought to what you want to do in life and then see what all you have learnt this 6 years that would add value to what you want to do. You can not walk into a MBA course with no clue what you want to do. You must have some idea. But it is not cast in stone. You can change your goals. But you must definitely have something to start with. If you don't try to find out about various careers and figure out what you want to do.
