I want to know an alterante route so that I can work in Public Relations( its a part of HR but more than just hiring activities) or as business analyst or consultant. Are there any companies offering such profiles to people who dont have an MBA? kindly suggest me an alternate path

1-2 year IT experience won't help at all. Will be same as freshers.

Since I am not from one of the coveted Engineering colleges and also because i hv low acads during my graduation i.e. 56 % . i am not able to find any oportunities to start my career in this arena
It wd be of gr8 help if fellow puys could enlighten me as to how to go on in this aren like would doing a MBA is a imp prerequiste . I am appearing for CFA L 1 in June 2010. KIndly help

Summer internship is not considered as work-ex, so your fresher tag would remain.
About the criteria for work-ex, I haven't heard companies insisting on people with more than 6 months of work-ex. If at all a company wants an experienced person, it will insist on not less than 1 yr of work-ex. Anything less than that is as good as a fresher. Most college placement teams segregate batches in terms of freshers and laterals, with the laterals consisting those having more than or equal to 24 months of work-ex (may not be true for all institutes, but is true in some atleast). This is because most companies coming for placements have this definition of laterals.
And yes, it's not just the PSUs who ask for the work-ex people; quite a few private companies do the same as well. But if you're a fresher, you need not worry as there are many companies looking for freshers as well.

If you can clear CFA L1, it would surely be a bonus but I'm doubtful whether you can leverage this to get into an I-bank. If you say research and analysis have huge scope, then you're not just looking at I-banking or consulting, you can also look at market research, which would include quite a bit of surveying, data analysis etc.
Having said all this, I think you would be better served if you were to do an MBA. So if you clear CFA L1 now and assuming that you clear L2 while pursuing MBA, these things can overshadow your previous grades and you should have a better shot at the profiles you're mentioning.

This year CAT has been a disaster for multiple reasons and I dnt want to sit idle for a whole year. Quite a lot of companies give importance to CFA L1, particularly if engineers do it. But I'm not very sure which companies, but rest assured, quite a few good ones will give weightage to it 😃

getting into these organizations depends on 2 factors now :
1. their eligibility criteria to allow candidates for sitting in their recruitment process.
2. how do you justify in interview for your low acads.
if you get through above two barriers and impress panel from these organizations with your positive points ... then you can surely make through into any of these organizations. :thumbsup:
In my opinion, irrespective of domain in which you want to work for..... you have to overcome above 2 factors which i mentioned....
