Don't post the same query in multiple threads. I've answered your query here:

Hi,
I am working in Software Company. Last year I tried to prepare for Civil Services but in mean time I switched job. As I switched job I used to spend most of the time in office only in learning new technology and to meet the expectations of new employer. I really dont like IT industry from Day 1 and most important thing is I like Civil Service more than what I am doing currently.
Following are the Problems which I encounter
1.Most of my friends told me to leave the job to prepare for exam but I cant leave the job because
a.I have booked flat and I have home loan to repay.
b.I am now 27 year old (age factor is the most disturbing factor as it is brings lot of responsibilities and expectations); my family has great expectations from me.
c.My family is forcing me to get married in next one year or so. It will again increase the responsibility and liabilities
2.I am in Dilemma that Where to concentrate?
a.I am in IT industry. Every day some new technology crop ups and I have to keep myself updated for that.
b.If I concentrate more on Civil Services which I did last year, my technical knowledge will not improve.
3.My job timings are 8.30AM to 8.30PM (Monday to Friday)
a.12 hrs a day job
b.Sometime need to come on weekend as well
4.Is it true that I will not be able to crack exam without leaving job? Are there some good examples of peoples getting in to services when they were doing job?
Following are the solutions which I could find
1.Look out for some good company which will either put me on Bench or will offer me time to time job Or
2.Continue with existing job, study technical things on Saturday and Civil services on Sunday. (This will make my life more miserable as there will be no time to Freak Out)
Some of my friends told me to concentrate on IT only and not to look for Civil Service. They told me that you will grow in IT as well but they dont know Civil service will bring me
a)Respect and Recognition in society
b)Power
c)Money
d)Job Security
e)Opportunity to serve country
These are the things which any Damn job in world will not offer
Please suggest some solution. My frustration level is increasing day by day.

Is it really important to "Freak Out". I know all of us need recreation but i also think that it is the motivation for achieving my goal- the biggest recreation of all...
One more important thing pusue with your current job, learn new technologies--whatever you learn never go as a waste.
About marraige- How could you even think of takiing someone else's responsibility when you yourself is not settled. You are only 27 , marraige can wait for attleast 3 years and yes you also need to convince your family that the first and foremost priority at this stage is your career.
What i like about you is that you are clear about your goals. So you should continue with your present job and simultaneously prepare for civil services. Devote some time every day for your preparation and dont leave it for the week end.
On the motivation part i must say there are a lot of guys out here who balance their job and preparation for competitive exams. To achieve something you have to give in everything as there is no shortcut to success.Th e following thread should motivate you. Please go through it and read everyone's stories-stories of patience, stories of perseverence, stories of dedication , stories of determination and yes stories of success:

MBA or MS ??
~~~~~~~~~
I am a software engg working in a reputed multinational company with almost 2 years of exp now.I had never felt that I would be in this state when I was in college.By my current state I mean a crisis in my life,a failure in CAT for the past 2 yrs and unable to make my mind to change my company even if I have made not much progress in my current company.
Now everyday I feel going to the company like a burden and it kills me.
I am planning to give GMAT this year and have a last try at CAT but getting into a foreign MBA takes more than a good GMAT score and getting into CAT is a matter more of luck than handwork now.I know I can switch my company anytime but its the inertia and the company loyalty (yes you heard it right )which is preventing me.
Now as I am good on the technical side I am also contemplating a MS.Doing a MS from a decent US university is both relatively easier and cheaper option than GMAT.I can work in US after my MS and have a better profile experience and finances for GMAT after I have done a few years of job in US.
And its a dilemma I am in.My first option was always to do an MBA from the IIM's but since it hasnt happended in the last two years I am really confused.Can anyone who has been in a similar sort of confusion help me out here ??
Hi Puys,
Ok first thing first. I am an electronics and telecom engineer 2009 passout from an unknown college in unknown place(though now it is known for its naxal activities
) in orissa. Got through campus placement in Honeywell Technologies solution lab bangalore. Was very happy cos i got into a core company and have to work in my domain that is electronics. But the happiness was short lived when i got know thwt due to reccession we won't be given a permanent offer. So i was thowr out after 6 months that was our training period. As we got our joining in jan 2009 i left the company in aug 2009. After that i thought to concentrate on CAT and came back to orissa and didn't look for a job. Gave a terrible performance in CAT and now I am fully dissapointed. I am not at all interseted in IT sector and even i don't have much knowledge in IT. I thougt I could get into any industrial company as there are many steel plant projects here. But due to my branch I was rejected everywhere:.(I really repented on the selection of my branch:banghead:. Should have done with a core branch). Anyways now i am giving some PSU's and PSB's.
Now apart from these what are the other fields i can try for a job now. Seniors please give some suggestions. What are the options left for me now??Desperately need a job now:
thanks
Hi everybody,
I am an Engineer + MBA with around 2 years of exp. But I am not satisfied with my degree and my work profile (not inline what I want to do in long term), hence, m planning to do MBA one more time, from a top institute in India. I just want to know whether PGP course (2 yrs course) would help me in that as it has got a lot of market value. Are there/ were there students in IIMs who had a prior MBA degree before joining the PGP course? How much Value addition would that do. Of course I want to change my line (from sales to IB...i know its a big thing to achieve, but I am trying).
Kindly give me your valuable inputs. M also expecting some of the IIM alumni also current students to suggest me on this.
Awaiting your response guys
Regards,
C K
Definitely, but what kind of help do you want exactly?
You have not specifically mentioned what you want to do. I am assuming you do not wish to join IMT-N, and want to give another shot at CAT, plus other MBA exams.
Best thing would be to take one of the job offer, and do your best there. You can prepare simulatenously for the coming season. Its always better to be working than to be sitting idle at home.
All the best. 😃
Buddy,
Don't loose confidence on yourself.... if you have taken the decision to leave a b-school and try to attempt once again for your dream , you will surely succeed.
Sooner or later , fruits of self confidence and hard work are achieved.
Well, man, have highlighted in bold your problems, and your desired solutions.
First of all, have faith in yourself. Believe that you can do it. You have got an IIM Call, which by itself is proof that you are capable of doing quite well. :thumbsup:
Secondly, do NOT get demotivated by failures. Remember that true success comes Only to those who have tasted failure, and have risen up again to meet the challenge. I know its easy to say and hard to actually implement, but I believe real winners are Not those who get IIM calls, but those who eagerly follow their passion with a Never Say Die attitude. :clap:
Edison, Henry Ford, Einstein, Steve Jobs all have failed numerous times, yet they came back with a bang, and did what others thought they never could.
If you want to stand up on your feet, you have to lift yourself up first.
Get rid of all negative thoughts from your mind. CAT is not the end of the World, focus on what your true goal really is. You say you are interested in Finance. Fine, but what next? If you really liked Finance, why did you take up the Core-Mechanical job offers? Why not something related to Finance instead?
But its definitely okay if you want to shift now. However, remember that gaps are taken negatively by the interviewers, so in the worst case, even if you dont like Mech Jobs, you can still opt for it. .
Lastly, please do not use the 'My Parents are forcing me to...' excuse. You have to learn to stand up on your own. Its you who has to do take up the decision, not your parents. Do what you want to do, if you don't feel like joining IMT-N, don't. I believe you have it in you to make it to the top. Remember that to be successful in life, you have to take risks.
All the best... and do check out the link Vision gave. 😃
One of My friend is in Great Dilemma , He is an engineer and He was working in a company for 1 year but had to leave it to pursue his family business due to family/personal problems. The business is not that big. But now he wants to do MBA and want to do something different, will this exp of his count ? Interview panel will ask why u did so and so why quit company to Family business and now u want to do mba and work in a company again
Please Help him... with this profile , can he give CAT and bell it ?
hi,
Your friend needs to understand that interview panelist is also a human being and he has seen a lot. As you told that due to some family problem he quit his job and helped in family business and now wants to pursue his dream of higher studies. this is a possitive thing nothing wrong. i believe his workex willl also count as he has worked for the business and surely learned things which can be clearly judged in an interview process. Be confident and he will surely bell the CAT.
I am just passing out engineering (Computer science engg) (after jun 10)
can't took CAT 09 due to some glitches in Computer :-(
even i did not sit in a company due to CAT and other Exams MBA preparation
So finally got nothing :-(
So shud i take 1 year Gap for CAT or go for the job search(as there are large openings so not a big problem to get a job in IT industries)
if I go for a job then how job exp. would help me after 1 or 2 or more years for MBA entrance like CAT or GMAT.
