There isn't any one answer for this question. On an average, you would find students having around 2 years of work-ex in such colleges.
hello puys
Need ur help seniors...in a serious dilemma nowadays...
I completed my B.E. chemical engineering in may 2009. After that i didnt joined any company and started preparing for CAT 2009 and other MBA exams at home. But didn't get through any top tier college and decided to work and prepare again for CAT 2010. I started hunting for job in February and was mainly interested in KPOs. In april i got work in some finance company in gurgaon but on contract basis. My contract is getting over on 15th June now. Two days back i gave interview in a KPO and got selected for the profile of 'Market Research'. But the problem is that I have to sign a bond of two years with that company by paying them a cheque of 80K. They have offered me an in-hand salary of 22K per month. I don't have problem in signing the bond n paying 80K. Coz if I get thru some good MBA clg in 2010 then I am ready to sacrifice those 80K, moreover I'll cover almost the complete money till June 2010, so bond agreement is not a problem for me. Now my major concern is that I want to pursue my MBA in Marketing domain. The KPO in which I got placed is "Cvent Pvt Ltd.". Its basically an Event Management company. Now I want to know that the Market Research profile which I am going to join will be of some extra advantage to me during MBA admissions or not? If it is not going to add some plus points to my profile then I am ready to wait for some more time. But if this profile is gud for me then I will look forward to join the company.
@seniors..pls clear my doubt...I have to confirm the company bout my joining on the coming Monday. So don't have much time...looking for a quick reply...

If you're interested in Marketing and want to make a career out of it, this job should be helpful, for the MBA admissions and even for the placements as well. I would suggest you to go for it.

Hello,I am very sorry to say that its very difficult for you to get some good college since evry decent college requires a minimum of 50% in graduation.:-(Also 50% in graduation is the minimum criteria of writing Cat which is the most preferred entrance for MBA.:-(And dude please don't post the same query, again & again, wait for sometime & someone will surely answer your query.

Nitin you have great scores in Xth & XIIth,and if you do your graduation from D.U correspondence you will be obviously eligible for regular MBA and if you can fetch up good marks in graduation with a good Cat score, you can even land in the premier B-Schools may be even IIM's.All the best:thumbsup::thumbsup:
P.S You are welcome, but from now onwards please use the thanks button for thanking someone.:)

HI
i just graduated with a BBA in International business from SCMS(UG) pune and i wasn't getting through any of the good colleges for MBA so i dropped an year i was looking forward to doing a course in marketing management.
So is it a good idea to intern with an advertising firm in the client servicing department and then start studying for all d entrance exams from august.
or to work somewhere and juggle work and d entrance preparations (which i doubt ill be able to do) , because from what i've heard the college's look down upon you if you take a one year break and do nothing except "STUDY" for the entrance exams..I' really tensed because i don't want to end up wasting an year .Looking forward to your suggestions
Thank You

If you feel your job is hindering your preparations and you just can't make it without leaving it, you should go for it. But make sure that you can motivate yourself to prepare by sitting at home, because it's a tough thing to do.

Hi Gaurav,I will suggest you not to leave your current job and look for opportunities in field which interest you the most but do a job as it will work as back up. Cat is not about studying whole day ,It is all about smart work and Human Psychology.Like many of us I also thought that if I leave my college studies and focus on Cat then I will be able to perform better but this does not happend because When I started my preperation that time companies started visiting my college for selection and I was not able to sit for interviews as I was having one backlog , which always use to make me tensed and I lost the battle before even starting it .Better we perform in our job ,studies etc the more mentally fit we are and this increaces our efficiency and performance in different areas.
p.s: looking for senior puy's reply..:)
Hii Puys...
I am not sure if this is the correct place to put up this query...but since i have found quite a few people who are already working in some IT companies visit this forum...I would be greatful if someone can throw light on my query...
I have an offer from an IT company..but the profile is not development or maintainence....but its IMS (Infrastructure management services)...can any puy explain as to what is the exact profile and job roles of IMS ??
also...what are the growth/future prospects of this profile??
Is it a good option to go for ??
thanx in advance...
Long old story cut short
I am a btech 2010 passout,placed with Infosys,joining due on 18th oct 2010,at Mysore.
My CAT 2009 was very poor 52 percentile(i cudn't believe it).
XAT 2010 was approx 86 percentile with balanced scores in all sections.
Missed TISS by a very close margin.
10th-icse-76 %
12th-icse-75 %
btech(electronics& instrumentation)-65% approx.
i have some interest in HR management
,have done a lot of reading, analysis, have followed general business newspapers and magazines etc.
I want to be in a knowledge-driven organization, which can provide career growth for me.Job security is important for me.
i want to do mba only if i get into a top 20 college like TISS,XLRI,or IMI (heard its expensive, what u say ?)
New to IT field, but hav interest in coding/problem solving.
What wud b a better career path ? - continue in IT (focus on core technical subjects and get into research level work) or prepare for entrance for general MBA/MBA-HR or wait for executive MBA 5/10 years down d line?
Ultimately, it depends on your interests. :)
You say you have an interest in coding/problem solving. So check-out the environment at Infosys first. It will be good to earn work-experience of at least a few years. Maybe after that if you feel that you should go into research, then definitely opt for it.
But if you feel that research/core technical work is not suitable for you, and that you want to shift into HR management, you can certainly do so. Try talking with a few HR managers for some guidance. Yes, doing an MBA from most top Bschools[with the notable exception of FMS] is expensive.[ May range from 5 lakh to even 15 lakhs, depending on the Bschool]. But bank loans are easily available, so I don't think it will be too much of a problem.
Now, if you feel that you want to continue with research/and or IT for the time being, then you can think about doing an Exec MBA later. But I feel that the first two options you gave, will be more suitable for you. :)
Do what you want to do, I feel that job satisfaction is more important than the salary, but its up to you. All the best.. ๐
