i had posted earlier and now would like to add things. I have managed to score 98.28 oa in cat 08. Now i know i wont make it to imt n mdi but do ya guys think i have a decnt shot at odr colls like nirma, tapmi. If i come across as an intelligent n dedicated candidate who has faltered, will they take me. Is it really about the gd pi performance and not about your past record? Now im not exactly financially well off so i cant go in for courses where i have to invest 8 lacs and not get a job in the end. If i dont get through to a half decent college, i plan to taake up a simple job(faculty or data entry/bpo types). Will that add to my resume or damage it when i go in for cat 09? Or do i just take any college and work hard there to get placed, taking a financial risk in the process?
first thing first.i don't see any reason why u cannot make it to imt or mdi.i know it is easier said than done but please don't rule ur self out.
This not an interview of harvard and stanford. I can tell you if u have a great gdpi then u can make it. U have got a very good cat score.don't ruin with ifs and buts.
If you need any help regarding gdpi then be my guest.
have you analysed the pros and cons of it..? I mean, please take a pen and a paper and put down your answers to the following questions: 1. How am I going to benefit out of this course? 2. What kind of job profile willl I be getting and whether it will suit my needs? 3.Can I afford to wait another year and do a full time MBA ? 4.How is this e-mba course compared to a full time MBA from a residential school? Is it comparable? 5...
If you can answer the above questions, I think you will be able to decide for yourself... we all belong to the same age group, and I cannot possibly suggest something which may/may not turn out to be good for you as everybody thinks differently.. hence please ponder over these points and am sure you will be able to take a decision soon. ATB!
Hi pal,
I must confess that i've gone through these questions in my mind since i got this oppurtunity..well whn i compared full time and Executive MBA (kindof part time coz lectures and assignment will be thr) i've given 8 out of 10 marks for this course..(with a certain reason of getting money+exp in this period of meltdown/recession). Jst thinking abt Full time MBA it will take 16-17 month for next year joining and thr is bit chance for hitting by hard luck too...
Ohh i dont know how to elaborate my dilemma.. bt soon or later i'll make my mind firm.. and put the things on God..

I can understand your dilemma and hope that God gives you enough faith and confidence to make a good and informed decision and stick to it.. God bless!!
I am new to PG and havent had enough time to go through all the posts. Probably i would have got an idea.
I work with a software firm for the past 2 years. I am bored with the kindda work in my place. Would like to spread my creative wings and fly high. My area of interest being Advertising and visual communications. I have got 75 percentile in CAT () which i dont consider worthy due to which i have not applied to any of the colleges.
Now i have an idea of applying for the six month certificate course in MICA. Will i get a seat ?
Other than MICA i have no idea of colleges offering courses in visual communication and advertising.
Really need your help, I am one of employee of Top three Indian company, working in networking domain from last 2 years.. After last CAT and other exam the outputs are not satisfactory for me..but confusion came when i got selected for EMBA through my company with Symbi.. It'll b 18 month of course and after 1 year on bond (that is not bothering me).. Confusion is..shell i go for it..or try my hard luck for next attempt this year for CAT n other exams..
Help me out....
dude a whole time MBA and EMBA are different programmes with different comparative advantages....which u might already have figured it yourself.
now MBA(full time) is definitely better, its the original course in MBA...whereas the part time & EMBA stuffs are the derivatives.... tailor made to suit specific needs.
working hard and entering premeir B-schools is definitely worth it... but if u wish only to scale up in ur present job and nothing more the EMBA will be a good option.
whatever u do... u shud remember that EMBA option is always open to u but the challenge and reward lies in the MBA fulltime.
i m a computer engineer......... got placed in a MNC thru camus placement. What shud i say in PI is askd wat i did the whole yr:-x PLZ DO HELP..............
your case is similar to hundreds of others who have passed out in 2008. everybody(including the interviewers) are aware that u r not to be blamed for what happened to u. yhey know the reasons...and even if they ask u so...it wud be to stress u out and nothing more.
u cud alternatively tell them that , seeing the present scenario, u thought it was better for u to go for higher learning.

I'm currently doing my B.Tech (CSE) and in 3rd year... i want to give the GMAT and try for an MBA in the US but due to experience being a necessity i thought of getting placed through the campus and woking for about 2 years....
Now with the current recession, there're hardly any companies hiring which;s making me wonder weather its a good choice to rely on the campus placement.... Meanwhile, almost the whole of my class has joined one or the CAT Prep institute and preparing for this year;s CAT... So what i want to ask is Should i give the GMAT nw and hold my score fr 2 years or prepare for CAT in November meanwhile keeping an eye out for any companies coming to the college ?
Also , how important is joining a Coaching institute in the preparation of CAT...
I would say join a CAT prep institute(TIME/IMS/CL/etc) and write CAT this year, it would help you for ur campus placements also(the first round), and only when u r confident that u ve prepared well take the GMAT, there is no point taking GMAT without proper prep when u r sure u wont be joining it for 3 yrs, so prepare well for CAT and crack it this yr, atb
Hello I'm a CAT 2008 aspirant.. i was working abroad-(middle east) resigned d job on July 08.One of the reasons which led 2 my resignation was to prepare for CAT as it was at top of my future to do list.Pursuing mba from Middle east is not advisable. I'm a b tech graduate with 20 months of experience.having a Cat score of 93%ile with QA 74 %ile the institutes i 've applied are Kj somaiya, Welingkar, IMT-Nagpur, BIMTECH and Amrita.. i'm tensed regarding the job queries which would b asked 2 me. will my resignation from the job abroad in july and my 7 months hibernation (for cat preperation but QA screwed a big deal of it) post july score against me.
It was not indeed pure hibernation.along with my preperations,i was active in a social organization since august. will the interview board consider it or will they note down my resignation from job as negative...

I am pursuing MBA in Financial Administration and I am in II sem. It is an allied course and it makes you a financial person from head to toe. I am willing to pursue an additional course so that I can have something extra to write in my cv. I am stuck between two choices, one of doing CFA and other option of doing a LONG DISTANCE MBA in Human Resource Development. I came across these two options as almost everyone of my batch has got their registration done for CFA, so I feel a bit "off the track". And HRD came to my mind because it has been a desire since long to pursue HR. Now I can't decide what to do. If I opt for HR, then it means I will be thrown out of crowd. I know there are advantages of being DIFFERENT but we should not forget the consequences if that DIFFERENCE makes you odd one out. And if I choose CFA, I will be one among the crowd but I will have no interest in doing it. My heart says HR but mind says CFA. I have got only a few months time to make the decision. Please suggest. Regards Elixir19 PS: Other suggestions are welcome. If you think I can use any other THIRD option, please feel free to suggest.
I am in final year of B.E. CSE from a nondescript govt. engg college in MP. My acads : 91 in Xth CBSE, 86 in XII CBSE and 70 in engg so far. Also I have decent extra-currics. I wrote CAT 08 and scored a paltry 91.18 percentile. My long-term goal is to do an MBA from a top 10 Indian B-school.
I have got a job offer from TCS at 3.15 lacs p.a. CTC.
The issues I have are:
1. Due to the economic slowdown, the date of joining is going to be delayed a lot. As it is, my seniors got their dates around 4 months after their final exam in 8th sem. I do not want to waste that much time just waiting.
2. Personally I'm least interested in joining TCS because it will definitely make my profile highly straitjacketed and I'll be afflicted by the MIT (Male IT) syndrome. I'll be a part of the crowd. Also I do not have any interest in coding at all.
So, in the current scenario, is it possible for me to get jobs in the following sectors or companies?
- Marketing/Sales in good organizations where I get to learn - Microfinance organizations - Financial Services - Tourism and hospitality (for instance - makemytrip.com) - other industries
I do understand that the profile and pay packet I receive will pale out in comparison to the one I have in hand, but as they, I dearly want to follow where my heart leads me.

Abhishek,
Its really a good thing that you are actually thinking abt chucking a handsome package to follow ur heart......and many ppl have actually landed up quite well doing just that....
But at this moment i would suggest you to go with the flow for the next 2 months atleast....u will be having your calls from different schools right now and in my opinion just give your best shots at every place u can!
Fast forward -->> April -->> Check ur job status abt ur joining date and then decide about any COA....if u start looking for opportunities now hither and wither, i think it would only scatter your focus and hence will result in poor performance....
A hands-on experience such as Marketing/Sales, Micro finance and others whc u have mentioned would surely set you apart from the crowd of CSE studs doing coding....but in my opinion u can start it off during April...not now....
Friends, Do you people think that an MBA would be fruitful in this market situation? What are all the companies basically hiring HRs? Please give me some ideas..I'm too confused...
Hi pays, I like Leading People, holding bigger responsibilities, and interested in people Administration.Yet, I don't have that much interest in Money managment.I have a good confidence in mass communication. Will HR be the right decision for me?. Being a HR will I be given better opportunities in interacting with groups of people? Please suggest me...
