PhD/FPM 2014

IIm -I interview shortlist out. M thru 😃

Dear P Guys,
Any tips for FPM GD & PI ?

Kaha ho sablog ? This thrad is dying...

Any idea when to expect K and L shortlists ?

Friends As a quick refresher in Maths/Quants aptitude for RAT which one would you recommend - RS Agarwal or M. Tyra? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

At IIM Rohtak from FPM 2013, out of 17, only 11 have survived the first six months - i do not know the reasons, very surprising!

Anyone can throw some light on this?

Also i heard that IIM Indore has sent the FPM first year to IIM B this year, is it true?

Edit - The number is 9 only! I think due to restrictions, we may not get the real reasons behind this..people who are staying wont put this on public forum, and who have left won't be active on pagal guy 😃

@sb29 and other PhD/FPM seniors... as all of us are concerned about this , can you please share your views on new IIMs. Is it worth joining a college for PhD from where no batch has passed yet. Will there be teaching jobs available in B-schools for new IIM FPM passouts..?

Hello People!! Bit of a self-promotion again. If any of you is interested in doing a PhD in marketing (CB/quant/qual/strategy) at Nanyang Business School, do get in touch with me. GMAT/GRE score required.

Anyone who has applied to L/K , have they reverted regarding the receipt of application ?

@buffer ..Any info about when shortlists are coming for FPM?

Any idea when are IIM L results coming out?

Hello Puys, I have applied for FPM at mostly all the IIMs. I gather that at some point, I have to write RAT but I suck at quant. Could you please suggest which books should I refer to if I want to better myself? My area of specialization is OB and HRM.

when is the last day for referees to submit reco forms for IIM Calcutta?

any idea about IIM A list?

Folks loads of questions about IIM B RAT and also area specific tests. Here is the low down that I hope makes things clear
1. RAT is very similar to CAT but is not considered to be as tough as the CAT

2. Area specific tests vary from year to year so nobody can tell you for sure which area will have them this year
3. Both the RAT and AST are used as a filter post interview (this is generally what happens)
4. Interviews are generally conducted on the day after the RAT and AST
5. You will get a chance to interact with us post RAT so you can ask doubts in person. Else interviews generally revolve around what you have mentioned in your SOP and application form.
6. Studying for the RAT: A subject of immense debate as I can see. Use CAT material if available else use Quantitative Aptitude books that are available. Choice is yours (I personally do not have any recommendations)
7. Once the shortlists are out the FPM student council generally sends out an email to all those who are shortlisted for RAT and Interview that will give you greater clarity.
8. In the mean time for specific question I am available from OB&HR; and @kartik_ from ESS. We are both in finishing our 1st Year

Applied for FPM at A/B/C
very much intrested in pursuing PhD
but very poor profile and nothing related to research ever done in life
Do I stand a chance???

Hi Puys.. I have a query regarding my IIM C FPM Application.

Only 1 of my referees has submitted his referral. Will my candidature stand cancelled??

Even in my case, only 3 of my referees have filled up the form..........Hope this will not hamper my chances of candidature..........

Hi Puys..
There have been a few queries in PM and here as well regarding various issues with IIMC FPM application. I have compiled all the possible questions and answers below. Hope it helps. Also since my Proposal presentation is nearby, so I don't frequent the forum too much. Just tag me at @buffer for quick reply.

Now to the questions
1. Referee issue
=> It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that all their referees have filled up the form. In case one or more of your referees have not filled up the recommendation, it is difficult to say how the committees would take it. The decision of shortlisting is with the respective academic groups whom you apply to, and they *may* call someone whose referees have not submitted the LORs but the overall application is very promising. This would happen typically for people who have 3 LORs submitted but not fourth. This would definitely not happen for someone whose no LOR is submitted.
In these cases committee typically would ask you to bring the fourth remaining LOR in hardcopy in a sealed envelope (rare cases). Also the evaluation of the applications is done online itself , so even if some of your referees filled the form after 12, chances are that it may be taken into account.

2. Shortlisting issue
=> The shortlist would be released on March 3, 2014. It would also be mailed (Both email as well as snail mail) to all shortlisted candidates. The interview would be on 26-27 march.

3. Interview Process and RAT
=> The interview process at IIMC is a two tiered one. On 25th evening, an interaction session with the senior FP students would be organized and any/all doubts/questions would be taken. On 26 candidates would have group specific interview. The candidates shortlisted after round 1 of interview, would have a RAT on 26th evening. RAT at IIMC is not an elimination test and since it was started only last year, no one actually can say what would come this year. On 27th the second round of interview would be by FP committee which would then give the final decisions. Admission decisions would be communicated on 27th evening itself.

4. Fit/profile/questions etc.
=> Lets keep the discussion on questions to be asked for later. The shortlisting is done on a complete profile basis, so if you have a good enough reason to apply which is clearly outlined in the SOP, then you stand a decent chance even without solid research background.
