In IIM - Idr selection process , there is a one hour research writing test. CAn someone elaborate on that ?

I ave a CAT score of 2012 , but I want to improve on that. So those appearing for CAT -13 , will the FPM people take the score directly once the result is out ? They havent even asked for CAT application number.

IIM INDORE NOTIFICATION OUT!!!!

A drastic change in FPM structure, reduced course work from 24 months to 15 months.New Entrant will be lucky as they have to do only 32 credits PGP instead of 74 credits of PGP-1 .

If you wish to apply for PhD in Marketing, here is some information about NBS

I have the same query. I am already enrolled as a JRF in a university. Since i will have spent a year by the time I apply to various IIMs in December, 2013 (December being the last month for most IIM's as I can see) I will have to disclose the same in the application form. Is it going to work against me so much so as to expect a rejection before application? Have there been people who have done that before? I am sure there will be some. My question is are they discreet about their appointment in another university before or during interview?

Hi Friends, I have been receiving some privates messages on how to write the SOP. I understand it is that time of the year now. There are several online resources available for SOP writing for Management PhDs. Just do a google on "sop for management phd" and it throws up some very good SOPs which can be used to get an idea on what to write about. Such resources are more credible than anything I say in (my personal capacity) in the subsequent paragraphs of this post ! :)

So all the standard disclaimers apply. Kindly follow the below mentioned guidelines with discretion applied for the institute, area applied for, and the personal background of the person.

Here are some of the tips I heard from my seniors (then!) and still today think makes sense.

1. Start with an interesting anecdote or a quote and is considered to be a good practice to attract attention.

2. The first para in the SOP should be to tell about the kind the personality you are and the vision & mission of your life and where does a FPM from IIM fit within this scheme of things.

3. The second para should be devoted towards your academic performance. If you have won any merit ranks, awards etc. they should get a mention in the 2nd para. Link them up to buttress either your motivations for joining FPM or the capabilities you bring which will help you do well in FPM.

4. The third para should be devoted towards your work experience in general and communicate the areas where you have worked and what you have learnt and what made you interested in the management PhD. Again cite specific capabilities or motivations acquired during your work experience and link them to the FPM course or your vision/mission.

5. The fourth para should talk about your general motivations for research and how it is beneficial to the society at large. If you have already done any prior research (either at Mtech, MPhil, MBA level) then it may be a good idea to link those experiences in along with this paragraph. If you have any previous conference presentations or publications (even of non management variety) briefly discuss them - by cleverly linking them with how they will help during your FPM or post FPM career.

6. The fifth para should build on the previous one, and talk about your direct area of interest in future research. You should introduce the topic with as much clarity you have at the moment. But leave doors open for revision and refinement of this idea. Here you can also discuss your limitations (like lack of knowledge, lack of formal education in how to do research etc.) and how you think a FPM degree will help you in doing such type of research.

7. Some people add a penultimate optional para talking about that specific institute and what resources or research centres bla-bla there has motivated you to apply there. To show-off that I know so and so about your insitute is a double edged sword, unless you link it properly with the area of research you mentioned in the previous para. Overall the objective of this para is to show the clarity in your thought process on the resources available in that particular insitute and how they can help you further your goals in life (as directed in vision and mission). You can also specify if there is anything unique or interesting you bring to the classroom environment by virtue of your diversity, background etc.

7. The last para should be your ultimate marketing weapon that summarizes very briefly on why they should select you. Go ahead and pack your punch lines here. But make sure you still sound humble and willing to learn.

Hope this helps. Wishing you all the very best for SOP writing ! 👼

Hello friends, does anyone know what are the cat sectional cut offs for iim ahmedabad fpm program.. any seniors from iim ahmedabad pls help out...

Hi puys,

Wrote my CAT 2 days back. Expecting around (94 - 97 percentile).

Acads : X : 94.5 % (ICSE), XII : 95.3 (ISC) , B.Tech (CSE) (Non IIT , NIT) : 8.93 on 10

2 years work ex in technology consulting and pre sales in Indian IT major.
School first in both 10th and 12th. Got various scholarships in college.
Have taught college students for placements.
Good Extra curriculars (Debates, football, Toastmasters)
Published a research paper at work. Working on another one.
No research papers in college though.

Given the not so good CAT percentile, I think A, B and C might be ruled out. But do I have chances in L, I and K for Information systems management with the given percentile and profile ? Requesting your inputs plz.

Note : I assume new IIM call shouldn't be a problem for FPM. But I have not got so great inputs about FPM from new IIM's. I have heard many people are dropping out of the course after 6 months to an year. Is it not a good decision to choose new IIM's for FPM ?

Hi Pguys......I am goin to apply for FPM at IIM C. My specialisation area till now is Finance. But as they allow to apply for atmost 2 areas I am thinking 2 apply for Strategic Management Area as well. Can sum1 guide me tht will it affect my chances of selection adversely....Pls share ur worthy views on this...........

What is the expected GRE cut off for FPM admissions in old IIMs? What is the industrial placement scenario after FPM?

Hey! What is the expected CAT cut-off for FPM admissions in IIMs and other B-schools?

Hi,
Can somebody tell me how much fees (tuition+hostel+mess) one has to pay in IIM-A and IIM-C for FPM?
In IITs one has to pay on an average 5K/month towards subsidized tuition+hostel+mess fees. So effectively one gets per month 13K ( = 18K - 5K).

I want to compare 18K/month stipend of IITs with fellowship amount of IIMs.

hi all...m expecting around 75 percentile in CAT 2013...
my profile is:
89% in 10th
85% in 12th
88% in B.E. (Mechanical)
1 yr work ex in mahindra automobile as of 31st Aug 2013..sumhow messed CAT!!

what are my chances for FPM in IIM-A/B/C & IIM-I/L/K considering low CAT score?
