Hi, I am currently doing my FPM from IIMB in ESS area....based on my experience, your SOP must clearly outline three things:

1. Your previous experience in research or related activities- basically why u want to pursue research

2. What broad areas you are willing to explore in your research and how you plan to go about it.

3. Why this institute.

@kartik Can you please tell in which areas the research in social science are going on? Who are eligible to take research in social science?

Hi , are there any 1st year FPM students active in this group. I need some help regarding my SOP for FPM. I believe the pattern has changed a bit. Earlier , the institutes used to ask for a single SOP of 300 words. However , this year IIML has asked for a SOP of 100 words ( mentioning ) career goals , and a broad research proposal of 100 words. For those who have had earlier research expeiences , can describe them in a separate letter in about 300 words ( i.e.not applicable in my case).

Now , this is my first experience in writing an SOP , my CV is not very good and I scored 93 in CAT last year. I dont want my application to get rejected at the first stage itself. So , I am more or less dependent only on SOP. I atleast want to have a shot in the interview.

The thing is that I want to elaborate how Operations Management is related to my work ex or my previous degree. Now , this neither falls in Career goals , nor in research proposal. How shall I go about it ?

All I can mention in career goals is that I want to get into academics and I have had a taste of the industry.

Any inputs regarding SOP are welcome. The problem is , its just 100 words and my interview chances depend on that.

P.S. - anyone not having a problem in sharing his / her SOP , please do the same.

can some one throw light on executive FPM from top B school like IIM L, MDI & XLRI in term of its recognition wrt regular FPM, admission procedure & opportunity in academics as faculty after doing this.

cheers

What is the difference between FPM and PhDs?

FPM is Fellow Program in Management that results in the generation of Fellow as end product whereas PhD is Doctorate of Philosophy that results in Doctor. FPM except IIMs are generally not recognized whereas PhDs are. Eligibility for FPM is graduation but for PhD it's post graduation. In FPM, generally the first year is common with PG but it is not the case with PhD.

Which institutes in India provide FPM in management?

IIM-A, B, C, L, I, K, T, S, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, MDI, IIFM, XLRI, XIMB, IHMR, MICA, ISB and IMT-H (Planning)

Which reputed universities/institutes in India provide PhDs in management in India?

IITs, NITs, IBS-H, Nirma, IRMA, IIFT, Central universities, State universities and Symbiosis.

Got a couple of private messages from people aspiring for FPM 2014 at IIMB. Although I have replied to them privately, wanted to point the larger set of 2014 participants to my earlier post(s) in FPM 2013 thread dated March 22nd and 23rd on the RAT and the Interview process... Hope it helps... You can also check my posts on FPM 2012 thread related to SOP preparation.. Will dig out the link shortly..

How to Prepare SOP and what all should be main concern .I have no clue .Please let me know .

I am sure you understand each person's sop would be unique, but there are common elements. In my sop I wrote about 5 things: 1. why I want to do a phd, and how it fits with my career and life goals, 2. Why I want to do it from IIMB, 3. What area of specialization I am applying to and why, 4. how I am suitable for phd in general and this area in particular, 5. what is a potential research topic that I am interested as of now (when applying). My sop was approx 500 words. The interview panel had clearly read the sop and most of the discussion we had during interview was anchored on what I wrote in sop.
