# Doubt- Recommendations

Is it fine if a candidate provides both of his/her recommendations from academia or corporate only or does it make more sense to provide one from academics (for past record) and one from corporate for (recent record)? (considering candidate has attended college 5-6 + years ago)

And is it ok if those recos. comes from retired persons(esp. from academia)?

Seniors...Please clarify.

Thanks.

Hello Everyone !

I know this is one of the most annoying question and/or sounds absurd many times, given the subjectivity involved due to lot of parameters and hence an attempt to predict it is not so useful exercise, but in any case I need most help on this one, especially from seniors (current doctoral candidates, passed outs and other experienced ones), so please give some opinion/feedback or evaluate my profile  and provide me some suggestions, if possible.

Academics

- 10th- 88

- 12th- 75

-  B.Tech- 7.5/10 (old NIT)

Work Experience

- 38 months in power sector (Formal)

- Currently- Freelancer/Independent Researcher

15-18 months in policy research, field work in public health sector etc.

Publications

- 1 research paper, co-authored (2nd author), in conference proceedings- International Conference (Power Sector)

- 1 research paper, co-authored (2nd author), submitted in peer reviewed Indian Journal (Public Health sector)

- 1 research paper, co-authored (2nd author), likely to be published in next one or two months in an International Journal (Public Health sector)

Awards/Distinction

Nationals- 1 in Olympiad, 1 in sports

State- 1 in Olympiads, 2 in sports, 1 in Art

School/Colleges- some

I have special concerns, as some of these are given huge weightage and/or are prime requirements in many IIMs, like..

- not-so-good acads,

- Poor performance in CAT 2016

- Working as an Independent Researcher/Freelancer

- Award distinction- I am confused on this one- as in what to fill..some of many my important achievements at National/State level are very old and doesnt have any direct relation to the Doctoral program. Should I mention those?

Please clarify me on this (esp . acads related) as I am having some issues with regard to filling IIMBs form. I hope more or less everything goes same for many other IIMs too.

My Preference-

Area1- Public Policy

Area 2- Not sure

Target Institutes- IIM B, A, C (in that order)

Regards,

FPM aspirant
