PhD/FPM (Fellow Programme in Management)

Hi, are there any opportunities to earn some extra bucks apart from stipend during the course of PhD program? ( Relevant For those who have kids, and have managed to stay poor. Don't ask why)

Been going through this thread and seems like apart from the few really helpful seniors like @root0090 @IIMAscholar @vipins19 most people abandon their Pagalguy account as soon as they get in some program. I am sorry if I missed some other regular here Guys, you should continue to help noobs like me!

Hi I want to ask whether top B schools take Fresher's for FPM ,they are eligible but when I saw some proflies All were PGs.Also I am 2016 batch graduate of IIT Dhanbad Mechanical engg and want to do research in Operations or strategy .How can I proceed for interview preparations. Thanks in advance

I have intentionally left out the number of candidates part. For FPM, I believe being truthful is the best way out. Don’t try to be someone who you are not. Being honest to oneself is in one’s best interest. Seniors at both IIML and IIMT were very helpful and supportive throughout the process. Administration at all three places was supportive. Made some new friends among fellow candidates.

Friends.. Need some guidance on my future course of action.. I m currently selected in iit madras (2year mba) program. I am certain of doing my phD /fpm post that.. During my next two years of stay in iit, what steps can help in improving my profile. Though results of new iim (trichy and ranchi) are still awaited, m planning to stick to iit madras (fees plus pedagogy). Need some inputs as to what should be my next plan of action. Thanks

Thought of sharing my fpm interview experience here for the sake of future aspirants My profile:  10th and 12th CBSE 93% and 92% resp.  B.Tech in EEE 82%, university first rank holder MBA in Finance 8.22 CGPA Workexp: 2 years in Cognizant prior to MBA and 2 years in CRISIL post MBA NET JRF in Management, 99.61 %ile in CAT 2016 I'm a 30 year old woman from kerala, married and have a child I applied to: IIMA- finance, economics and pqm IIMB- Decision sciences, Economics IIMK- Finance Got interview call from all except for economics in IIMA First interview was at IIMA. There were 9 call getters for Finance and 13 for pqm.. Day1 there was a 1 hour written test for PQM area which was basic in nature and was not intended for elimination. After the test, i was called for interview in Finance area. There were two members in the panel. After a few personal questions, they were trying to probe which area in Finance I'm comfortable with so that they can start asking questions from that area. I was very nervous and did not sound confident when they tried to get it out. They became clueless or thought that I didn't know anything much and started asking me questions about option payoffs which they wanted me to explain with diagram on the board. Recollecting MBA lessons done 6 years back was not an easy job and I realized i lost it when I saw their faces. The interview took 10 minutes and it was so for other candidates as well. After that I was called for pqm interview. The panel had 3 young members and the questions were shot at me by one of the guys who was a little rude at times; other two were almost passive. As soon as I took the seat, he asked me whether I had applied for MBA programme of IIMS as I have a good percentile. I said I already have an MBA and is interested only in a PhD. I could convince them further when I informed them that I was pursuing full time phd from my mba alma matter since dec 2016. Then they went on to the subjects covered in my PhD programme and this time remembering my finance interview fiasco, I led them onto a subject I am comfortable with. They gave me a paper and pen and for the next 15 or 20 minutes they grilled me on that subject. They also looked at my written test and tried to bring out the answer to the one question i had not solved properly. The whole interview took 30 to 40 minutes. At the end of Day 1, they posted the shortlist and luckily i made it to pqm. On day 2, we had to go through an hr kind of interview with 4 old and experienced panel members. They tested my determination to do fpm, reason for break after my last job, once gain on whether i applied for MBA and on my choices among IIMS, and it all ended on a positive note. I got the offer letter late that day when I was at Mumbai airport waiting for my connecting flight :-) I attended IIMB interview next week and converted Decision sciences there. (Sorry, after elaborating on IIMA, i'm too tired to type out IIMB experience!). Did not go to IIMK.  Hope this helps! All the best :-)

Anyone in this group selected in iim raipur in marketing ?

Hi anybody here went to IITK IME PhD process yesterday? Kindly do share your experience. Have they given offers?

Many top technological institutions(IIT's) have age limit 'preferably' below 35 years (though not mandatory) to recruit candidates for post of assistant professor. Does the same holds true for IIM'S??

Hi. In case of a  married candidate in an FPM program at an IIM, are all campus facilities available to one's spouse as well? e.g. Sports , Mess  etc. Any Insight would be helpful..

For those who recieved calls to attend FPM interviews at IIMs, what was your CAT score? And any idea about CAT cutoffs would be very much helpful!

have anyone recieved travel allowance from iim calcutta?

Hi Guys I have recieved final offer from IIM Indore (Industry ) FPM and IIT Delhi Part time Phd Program. Which one will you guys reccomend.? I have BE(Marine Engineering) and full time MBA from IIFT New Delhi. I am also pursuing my second masters from Indiana University in Data Sciences(online and distance). I  have experience of around 15 years globally in SAP consulting. My future reserach area is heavily focussed on Information systems and Big Data and Machine Learning. I am resident of Gurgaon so biased towards IIT Delhi. But i want a prudent advice from experts here.

Just to let you know i have little or no focus in teaching and academics. Thanks in advance.

I had cleared written aptitude test and appeared for IIM indore FPM.

Questions asked:  a)Draw graphs of Tanx, Cos X

                             b) Why FPM

                             c)  Explain Cash flow and capital budgeting

                             d) Financial leverage

                             e)  Age factor

FPM industry a good option.

Many iims have a stipend of around 30k per month.. The amount is ' in hand' or gross? Will there be any deduction from this. When will candidates be allowed for teaching assistant allowance during the tenure of fpm?

Can someone throw light on how phd in India differs with that of other b schools abroad.. What's the modus operandi followed?

Here is my Interview experience at IIM Rohtak, Indore and Kozhikode. Firstly, I applied for only 3 IIMs keeping in mind my CAT score and profile. Fortunately, got interview calls from all the 3.

Profile:

CAT - 82.6 percentile

SSC - 94.3%

Intermediate - 96.4%

B.Tech (ECE) - 87.75%

Work Ex - 2.7yrs (3 Months at Amazon, rest at Infosys)

No Research papers published. No MBA background.

IIM Rohtak - Marketing:

1. My First Interview.

2. 6 Panelists

3. Stress for the first 5minutes. They asked about my research topic straight away, which I didn't have. I had an area but not a concrete topic. One of the panelists said that they don't want students like me who are not serious about research just because I didn't have a research topic. I gave my reasoning.

4. Scenario based questions.

5. Questions about my recommendations.

6. Questions on which other IIMs I have applied.

7. Combination of Sarcasm and Stress.

8. About my reading habit and asked me to write review of the recent book that I read (Because I mentioned that in my hobbies)

9. All expected questions like Why FPM.

Time taken: Around 35minutes.

Result : Converted.

My Suggestion: Do NOT think that your background will effect you in case of FPM. All that works is how you perform on that day and how confident you sound. And Yes, your reasoning capabilities They asked me core Marketing Questions and I answered them with common sense because I know nothing technical about the subject.

IIM Kozhikode - OB&HR:

1. That city is Heaven.

2. Campus is Insanely beautiful.

3. 6 Panelists.

4. Stress. Stress. Stress.

5. Asked every possible question from OB&HR, admitted that they are basic.

6. Questions about my Work Ex.

7. Questions about research ideas.

8. They were probing a lot into every answer given and made questions out of them.

Time Taken: Around 20minutes.

Result: Not Converted.

My Suggestion: Never get stressed out, which I did (Because Kozhikode is in South and near to my place and I so wanted admission into it)

IIM Indore - OB&HR:

1. Huge Campus.

2. Good Hospitality.

3. Had interaction with seniors the night before my interview adn decided that I am not going to make through because there were lot of people with stronger profiles than mine.

4. This stands as the Best Interview I has so far. It started with sarcasm about my Gold Medal and went on till why they should offer me an admission.

5. It was stress for the first 5minutes, but I smiled it away because my inner voice said " You're not going to make it anyway, so just smile it off and enjoy the conversation". Magically, the air became lighter. The panelists became jovial.

6. One of them said that I do not have enough background and I hadn't prepared for the interview well, inspite of my failure at IIMK  (which they asked me about and I said I didn't make through) and the same person said that if they offer me an admission now, someone sitting outside and waiting for interviews might lose it and that may be because of my experience at IIMK, I'm giving my best in this one (Contradicting Statements are positive)

7. They asked me to speak about whatever I know from OB&HR for 2minutes because I had no background and they didn't have technical questions to ask me. So, I spoke whatever I skimmed through from two HR Books that I borrowed from my friend.

8. More questions about OB&HR (Most of the answers were "Don't Know"s) and my commitmment for 4-5 years.

Time TAken: 30Minutes

Result : Converted

My Suggestion : Again, o not get stressed out. Smile and stay confident. Most Importantly, when you don't know, say that you Don't.

Cheers!
