The general view across the forums with regards PR GMAT coaching is that it is highly overpriced. But then again, if you are someone who lacks motivation for self-study, PR might work for you.
Although I would suggest you look around these forums for info on other coaching centers for GMAT in your city. Also, in case you are just starting up your prep for GMAT, I would suggest you go thru' some of the books like OG11 to get a hang of GMAT is all about. Then you can take a call on whether you wanna join a coaching center or not.
Thank u very much.
But i cant go with self preparation.this is in pune.So not able to decide whether to join or not
Hi nagraj,
Can u please tell me the name of the institute that i have to opt for in pune as soon as possible. I have paid the token amount in princeton....can u please call me to
thank u very much
hey Nagraj,
Even i had taken Gmat coaching from TPR and i feel that my experience was completely contrary to that of yours..my score improved from 560 to 720. the online student centre is really helpful as it has numerous practice questions along with the detailed score report for every test..and not to mention the discussion sessions that the faculties take for every score report.
there are certain aspects where i felt only TPR concentrates...for ex the AWA section. most of the institutes don't even bother about it. apart from that the strategies imparted for each of the subsections both for verbal as well as quants have been really helpful...
i agree that they charge a bombshell but in the end i felt that it was totally worth it... my score says so...doesn't it....!
Not worth the price at all - especially in Pune. The quant faculty has a scaled score of 50 on GMAT quant and a score below 30 on the Verbal. Another lady has not taken the GMAT. There are far better coaching classes in Pune and if you are looking for something personalized, go for the coaching class that is committed to excellence.
Small batch sizes, personalized coaching and extremely helpful coach. Didn't you see their banners flashing on the top right hand side at pagalguy - you will love the class. (This is my personal experience - the coach got me from a suboptimal score below 600 to 710. I can vouch for them)
Hi Gogineni and Nagraj,
Nice Detailed info about the PR faculty; it seems as if you are spying them. Any competition ...??????? :-)
Anyways I would like to comment on PR as well as on "XXX: committed to excellence" as I have visited both the classes
About PR, No doubt the class is extremely costly which is the only thing that goes against PR, I dont know faculties scores: but I have heard from lot of my friends who had joined PR that faculties are really committed. I guess you must be more interested in knowing who teaches best rather than their scores?
I would like to give analysis on following points:
Infrastructure.
Study Material.
GMAT Test
Cost
Comments on PR:
Positive Points:
Infrastructure: PR is having a good infrastructure.
Study Material: They have their own study material to prepare online as well as prepare offline.
Mock Test: And above all they have their own 5 online tests which are very close to actual GMAT. Now this is 1 thing where any student has to lookout for. Even though you can prepare hard for GMAT but unless and until you don't give the MOCK GMAT exam (from well known sources like Kaplan, Princeton or Manhattan. Plzzz Do not refer any other tests as they are no were close to actual GMAT which might misguide you) how can you track your progress in preparation?. These tests give you detailed report of each and every question attempted. This can do wonders when you start analyzing your performance.
Negative point:
Its very costly.
"XXX: committed to excellence"
Positive Points:
Extremely cheap
Negative points:
Infrastructure: Well I really dont want to comment on this.....whoever is interested can go to its WAKAD office and experience it?
Study Material: IT does not have its own material. You have to buy a list of books like (Kaplan Premium, Princeton workbook, Kaplan 800). Now in the class you will be doing the same problems from the above mentioned books. But what I feel is all the problems mentioned in the above books will be having their own explanations, which no one can challenge as they are given from the best people from industry. So what is point in joining a class to do the same problems with same explanation. These things can be done sitting at your own place at your own comfort level.
Test: Its not having it own test. The class will be giving you a CD which will have tests of KAPLAN,Petersons etc. This CD is available on FC road at 250/- only
I am not favoring any of the classes its your decision to finalize the class but these where my observations.
Hope that helps you,
Thank you ver much "AKI". Joined princeton review finally but got 410 in the diagnostic test.....so really feared about that..sleepless nights.
Hi rakesh thank you very much...
finally joined princeton review paying 20 thousand only for quant..
Gogineni SaysThank you ver much "AKI". Joined princeton review finally but got 410 in the diagnostic test.....so really feared about that..sleepless nights.
Give some time dude.....
things will surely change ....
cheer up start studying hard .....
set your goals... Identify your weak points and work hard on them .....
My score moved from 570 to 710 with XXX i.e. GMAT Wings. I have seen comments reg infrastructure tests etc etc etc. No competition involved here but just a few points to ponder about
1. Who really sets the GMAT Tests? GMAC - so whether its Princeton or Kaplan or any TDH, the questions have to be in line with GMAC. GMAC spends USD 250 per live question. (You can get all this detailed info in the case that outlines GMAC vs Scoretop case that went in favor of GMAC)
2. Whether you access the free online tests from GMAC, Kaplan, Princeton, Manhattan or whateva - they will always be in line with the real GMAC questions.
If we go by the logic of books, then any TDH should be able to prepare for GMAT by himself/herself w/o having to go to any class. If books could explain everything that is needed, I don't think any class would survive in the world.
For the record - average number of enrollments in PR Pune is 4 per month.
Kaplan is 5 per month. CL (Veritas Prep is 5 per month) CF is 4 per month. Achievers Point is 8 per month. Dilip Oak's is 10 per month. GMAT Wings is 10 per month. How many students of PR have managed 700+ score? How many of them have got the right counselling for business school as per their career goals?
And most important, how many of the classes have GMAT faculty who have cracked the GMAT themselves? So if one is willing to spend hard earned money for access to an online database (Kaplan gives that for USD 199 and its almost the same as Princeton Review) by all means take it. Better option - get home tuitions from PR faculty who are paid INR 450 per hour thanks to their (virtual) 99th percentile.
I never knew that 50 on quant translates to 99th percentile on GMAT. Neither was I aware that a dismal score of 25 qualifies a person to be a faculty in PR....:D:D:D
Hmmmm.....
Good stats dude.... now its confirmed that you are spying on each and every GMAT classes in Pune... and you are the same guy who runs GMAT wings ....
Now stop opening FAKE ACCOUNTS and misguiding students
If GMAT wings is really worth enough people will surely join your classes no need to open those multiple fake accounts .....
Congrats for those 10 enrollments per months Best luck for your classes and please do something good for those 10 people who have enrolled to your classes.
Hi All,
People must refrain themselves from naming any institutes in the Forum, its a platform for solving queries and helping other PGites not for Advertising any so called Brands in so many cities.
All the Best!
Keep querying!
I think you have been mislead. I had called the Princeton lastweek, and the price quoted was close to 20K.
They told me that this includes OG and their books and some online stuff. .... let me say I am paying for the opportunity cost (If I do the reserach to come up with all of this, I will have to pay a much bigger price).

Does Princeton Review fee includes Admission Counselling too OR TPR charges for it separately?
Dear All,
I am planning to join The Princeton Review in Pune 2 months down. But currently TPR is offering me prep classes with 33k charges and claming to provide free Admission Counselling later which is worth 27K.
I would like to know if the TPR really charges so much for Admission Counselling OR it' just the carrot shown to make me to join early?
Does any one has got any idea on this?
Dear Gogineni,
I am not the biggest supporter of Princeton Review tutoring, not because they won't help you, but I think you can get better value from other tutoring companies. I have heard good things about Knewton.com, which is priced pretty similarly.
The PrincetonReview tutors aren't required to have top GMAT scores, so in general I feel that the tutoring is lower.
That being said, the good thing about Prep classes is that they force you to study which is good. Depending on your time frame, make sure to take 1 full practice exam every Sunday. You can get free ones from ManhattanGMAT.com, Knewton.com, and MBA.com (2 free exams.)
Honestly, I'd also recommend you purchase the Official GMAT Book; you'll get a lot more value.
Feel free to reach out if I can help any more.
