Quant by Arun Sharma

Thanks Wordsmith
in between can u post the solution or answers to the questions posted on the Quant thread please

hey shivam,
just posted the solution to the rectangle question. hope it proves helpful. i still have some doubt after going thru the soln provided in the key though. pls simplify it for me if you can. tks

for Q 1, answer is option (1) 4/ 5 miles. I was going through the solutions provided, both here and in the key,i noticed the minus sign because of vertical displacement- but still trying to understand it.

We are trying to calculate how much the ant has moved to the north direction(North because initially ita takes 2 miles to the north and there after less towards south).after going east it again travels south for half mile. so its vertical position (forget the horizontal movement it took for a while) is 2 -1/2. And when it travels north again , that distance has to be added since its travelling north.
Go on the same lines all along.. hope this clarifies ur doubt

Friends,
I have subscribed to this thread and have never posted so far.
Can you guys help me with this question? Its from one of the mocks...

Exactly n people attended a party. If n>3 and atleast one person in the
party did not shake hands with everyone else in the party, what is the
maximum number of people in the party who could have shaken hands with
everyone else?

1)n-3 2)n-4 3)n-6 4)n-1 5)n-2

I end with option 4) n-1 but the answer as per key is option 5)n-2

I end with option 4) n-1 but the answer as per key is option 5)n-2

if he is the person who is not shaking hand with every member means
one more must be there who didnt shake as two persons make one hand shake
i think
this may be reason
else ..........

Hi priya,
Suppose there are n persons in the party. So,maximum number of people who shake hands with every one else would be (n-1),as the person cannot shake hands with himself ;-)
But according to the given condition, there is atleast 1 person who did not shake hands with everyone in the party.so,the maximum number of people who shake hands with everyone else will be (n-2).

Q2. Let R1 and R2 respectively denote the maximum and minimum possible remainders when (276) ^n is divided by 91, for any natural number n, n>=144. Find R1 + R2.
1) 90
2) 108
3) 84
4) 64
5) 82

can any one explain me the solution of this question
?
thanks ....

Is the answer 82?If correct,i will post the solution.

Please help me out...here is the sequence of numbers 1,11,21,1211,111221,.......It seems to be a strange sequence ,but yet there is a system behind it.Wat is the next term in the sequence??

my take is 4

Your take is perfectly ok...here is how it happens..!!!

Take the first member. Its "1". Now how many "1"s are there ? Only 1. So we call it as One "1" means "11". Similarly for "11", there are two "1"s. So its "21". and so on. So answer for next number in sequence will be three '1's, two '2's, and one '1'. i.e. 312211. Means 4)

Q 2 monkeys A &B; are climbing separate 100 feet poles.A climbs up 3 feet in one minute but slips back 1 foot for every 2 feet climbed.Monkey B climbs 4 feet in one minute but slips down 1.5 feet for every 2 feet climbed.
A Stops for a minute every two min, while B stops for 1 min after every 3 min.Assume that the slippage occurs continuously .Which monkey reaches the top first and in how many minutes??

I have these doubts in the chapter Interests
LOD I
What annual payment will discharge a debt of Rs. 808 due in 2 yrs @ 2% Per Annum?
a) 200 b) 300 c) 400 d) 350

I solved this as follows:-
Let the annual payment be x
After first payment amount outstanding = 808 *( 102 /100 ) - x
Amount due after 2nd year = 102/ 100 * ( 808 *( 102 /100 ) - x )
This will be repaid by the annual payment of x
so
102/ 100 * ( 808 *( 102 /100 ) - x ) = x
Solving this I am getting x = Rs. 416.16
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this approach??

Hi ankita,
Out of the options, only 400 per annum can repay the amount of 808 rs.
Just take an option and,add 2 % to it and double it.
For 200,its 408
For 300,its 612
For 350,its 714
For 400,its 816
So,808 can be paid only by 400 p.a.

Hi megha,
It would help if you could post the entire question/s 😃
Hi megha,
It would help if you could post the entire question/s :-)

ok shashank so here is the ques....
hans and bhaskar hv salaries that joiently amount to RS 10,000 per month .They spend the same amnt monthly and then it is found that the ratio of their savins is 6:1.what is hans's salary?????
here is the ques....
hans and bhaskar hv salaries that joiently amount to RS 10,000 per month .They spend the same amnt monthly and then it is found that the ratio of their savins is 6:1.what is hans's salary?????

this is incomplete question bcoz there can be many solution of this question.so without options soln can't be found.
nyway i checked the ARUN SHARMA precentage chapter, question no. 31(LOD I).nd i m repeating d ques as it is given
hans and bhaskar hv salaries that joiently amount to RS 10,000 per month .They spend the same amnt monthly and then it is found that the ratio of their savings is 6:1.which of the following is Han's salary?
a) 6,000
b) 5,000
c) 4,000
d) 3,000

soln- suppose individual salary of hans nd bhaskar r 6x+y nd x+y respectively;where quantity in x represents savings nd y represents spending.
so we get (6x+y)+(x+y)=10,000
7x+2y =10,000
3.5x+y=5,000
since han's salary is 6x+y so it will be greater then 5,000
so ans will be (a)

A Stops for a minute every two min, while B stops for 1 min after every 3 min.Assume that the slippage occurs continuously .Which monkey reaches the top first and in how many minutes??

A | B
3 feet in 1 min 4 in 1 min
2 feet in 2/3 min 2 in .5 min
1 feet in 2/3 (slip) .5 in .5 min (slip)
so 3 feet in 2 min 3 feet in 3 min
3 feet in 3 min (stop) |3 feet in 4 min (stop)

So we no A will reach first...since he covers 1 ft in 1 min, he ll take 100 mins.

P.S.: Is this correct...corrections welcome...
