u r true in such case d 1 ST candidate is d only 1 who hs got d "minimum" % of marks 4 qualifying...
he will b automatically selected..he will hv 2 only qualify d gd/intrvw nd dats it...he is home

@mpsaikia ....ur info is looking pretty much confident...thanx.....people here shared thier prob. of selected/ not selected case..so on....now..i m too waiting results coz it's abt my installment fees (1 lakh) for NPTI...n this college sucks....so only sol. is Selection in SAIL.....which isn't easy.....n ab to GATE (for PSUs) k liye bhi kuch nhi ho sakta...coz uske liye top250 (electrical) lana padega....(written wgt 80% matters).......so pray 2 GOD for Our people's success

regarding the no. of seats call ratio is 1 to 3 in general and 1 to 5 in sc/st/obc and you can calculate that it comes to 410 which is bcause of more that one student at the last qualifying marks.........................

for electrical no. of seats is around 52 in general and 52 in reserved...............
